You never need to repeat that process because your router should assign the same IP address again to that printer. Unless you got some router made in laos or cambodia.
Powered by Cisco baby!!!! Hes right if you have a dynamic IP structure...so don't open your mouth so wide to let the ignorance fly out.

I've NEVER needed to define a STATIC IP for any any of my printers......and YOU probably don't NEED to either........

pandemichippo said:you could always have a shared portion of the hd on the computer connected to the all-in-one and then with it sent there it would effectively be a scanner for all pcs But not everyone has one directly connected. Plus, you wouldn't need a network capable printer for that. |

skinnygeek said:very easy. here's what you do. hook up the cat5 cable from the printer to your home 4 port cable/dsl router (assuming 80% of all home networking beginning with a 4/8 port cable/dsl router). after that, print out a configuration page and it will tell you what IP address has been assigned automatically to the printer.
go to each computer that you have at home and add a local printer (not network printer) and then add a TCP/IP port and then type in that IP address from the configuration page. then after that, print away....voila!
Only difference is that for Macs I guess one will have to find a compatible printer driver (i.e. postscript) as native Dell drives aren't supported on Macs. |

never need to define Static IP for printers? Do you ever work for any office and their printers aren't statically assigned?
OH My God! talking about ignorance. |

Of course I do you pompous a@@. Most people here are dealing with their homes and you spout off a way to configure something assuming an office environment because you seem to like to hear yourself spout out network speak.
God help me if I ever had to deal with a network admin like you. |

got one, I am so glad I found this thread! I was wanting this printer the day before, the day of, and the day after black friday - and it was just too much! I added the 3 years onsite replacement, and an extra $80 toner for the next time it needs it - and the total didn't come to that much more! Still came to about $329 with the 3 year warranty and an extra $80 cartridge!
EDIT: FYI: This coupons takes 50% off of the warranty that you buy too!
Thanks OP! |

OMG I love FW... I can't believe I got this printer for that cheap... Time to cancel the $355.99 printer from Staples now
Again, don't forget to include a warranty! (coupon takes 50% off of it too) |

The coupon does not appear to take 50% off the extra toners. I guess I'll plan on refilling. By the time I need to do that, FW will be able to tell me how to do it. |

With the last deal, somebody on Anandtech said that the 50% seemed to work on toner cartridges too. I don't think I'll use up the starter one fast enough anyway, but this time I'm sure the coupon does not apply to the toner. |

1. Does it have a document feeder that will copy/scan/fax multiple pages automatically?
2. Is its toner cartridge designed like HP (change drum when toner cart is changed) or like cheapo/bad samsung/minolta that only changes toner, and after a few changes than the new drum would cost more the printer?
Thanks |

Yes, I've done it for copy and fax. I haven't tried for scan. |
