Yes, I've done it for copy and fax. I haven't tried for scan.
I asked this question earlier in the thread. does anyone know if I can scan a stack of papers (say pages from magazines) into a file with a push of button (or some software)? |

My old HP (non laser) did that... anytime I wanted to scan, I set it to scan to a .pdf file and it worked. So in essence, yes, it should be able to scan multiple pages to a .pdf file. It should ask you where you want to scan the picture to - and you can modify those options...
Hope that answered the question |

This is perfect. I was just shopping around for a laser printer and was considering the regular Dell 1700, but the addition of the scan and fax capability plus a 3-yr warranty all for less than $300 is a great deal in my opinion.
Now I can get rid of the Dell 922 that eats ink for a living.
Thanks OP! |

Ordered one ... Thanks
Anyone know how this compares to Brother's 8440 AIO. Staples has it for 320.00 after $50 rebate and $30 coupon. Non network unit (not really important to me). Any one suggest spending the extra for it if it a superior product (quality, ease of use etc).
TIA |

any good sources for cartridge refilling? (Dell cartridge refilling is tricky). my wife will kill me if i pay another $80 + tax just for the black and white cartridge (only 3000 pages).
heard bad comments Here and 3 stars out of 5 Here
I am worry about the fan noise and scanner problem. |

OK I'm in.
I have an old samsung ML-6060. The thing has been a workhorse, wonderful printer.
Not network capable and in 3 years the cheapest I have found the network card I need to network it is $150.
So $211 shiped (w. tax) for a networked printer with 32mb of ram (expandable to 160mb?) is fantastic.
Quick question. Crucial is showing $50 for a 64mb SDRAM. Any chance these are standard 72 pin SDRAMS (like my ML-6060 takes) or something, or do you need proprietary memory?
Ok, so no scanning over the network, no faxing over the network. I can live with that.
Does the scanner come with any OCR software? If not any recommendations on what works good with the 1600n?
Has anyone used the scanner to scan photos? How bad is it? Has to be better than my 5 year old viewsonic....
Thanks OP for the great deal!

Thanks OP. Just bought one, perfect companion for my newly ordered Inspiron 9200. Looks like the Dell Preferred Account extra 2% off does not work in SB.

$80 is for the 5000 page cartridge. Forget the bad comments, this is an excellent printer for $200. The printer is totally quiet when you are not printing.

Does this fax allow you to view the fax through the computer before printing it ? I have been using the pc modem for this but it is buggy. any standalone machines out there that allow you to read their memory or transfer to the pc prior to printing? this doe look like a great deal thanks neil |

I got this last time and it is best value for the $. It is a samsung engine and easy to refill for $10. FYI - Network printing cool but the scanning/ocr can only be done via the usb. They want you to feed envelopes in the manual tray, and then OUT the manual in the rear. This would be a pain but it works for me through the reg output tray. This is BIG like a 19" monitor but looks nice. It is best to have a spot lower then a desk to put this on.
Nice addition to home office give away your old fax, scanner and laser. |

NoI think the point is that it is a stand-alone fax machine -- no??? tghis is a small workgroup multifunction, not a personal multifunction. Given that, tieing the faxing action to a single machine doesn't make any sense ... |
