With the number of Dell deals that appear on FW, and the seemingly endless stream of the same questions throughout those threads, I thought a FAQ for Dell deals would be helpful. Please reply to this thread for additions and suggestions or to tell me that I am wasting my time
How many rebates can I get from Dell? Dell allows 5 rebates per household per offer. EPP rebates may be a limit of 2 as the form states limit 2 per employee.
I ordered 5 systems with rebates. Does this mean I have to submit 5 rebates? Per Dell's rebate website (link above): Only one form is required to redeem all rebates listed on your system packing slip. If you purchased a Electronics & Accessories item that appears on a separate packing slip, please submit separately.
I am ordering from Small Business and it says I need a Company Name to submit my rebate. What if I don't have a Company Name to put on it? If you do not have a Company/Business name to submit for your rebate, do NOT just make one up. The check will be written out to whatever is put in the Company Name field. Just use your first and last name if you do not have a company or business name to use.
I used a coupon, will I still get the rebate? Dell consistently honors rebate submissions provided the packing slip lists the rebate. Before placing your order, verify that the rebate is listed in the order details. It is usually near the bottom of the list.
Can someone please PM me a coupon!?! NO! Please do not beg for coupons in deal threads. All it does is annoy people, clutter threads, and cause more work for the mods. All coupon begging is to take place in the One Time Coupon Use Thread
What happened to the Coupons For Sale forum? Where can I buy coupons if I can't find any in 'One Time Use Coupons'? FW discontinued the FS/FT (For Sale/For Trade) Forum. Coupons for sale can generally be found on eBay if they are available.
Why doesn't Dell send me coupons? Where can I sign up for Dell coupons? You can sign up for Dell Home email here
You can sign up for Dell Small Business email here
Whenever I add a coupon to my order, it gives me the coupon discount, but it takes away another discount...WTF?!? Dell is notorious for sending out coupons that often make the price of items more EXPENSIVE if you use the coupon. Most coupons will not stack with current offers, although this certainly isn't always the case. So if Dell is offering 20% off of all systems, and you have a 15% off coupon, most likely the coupon cannot be stacked, so using the coupon actually gives you less of a discount.
What is a concession coupon? How do I get one? Dell frequently gives out concession coupons for customer satisfaction purposes. These are typically $30 off of $30.01 purchase, $50 off of $50.01 purchase, $100 off of $100.01 purchase and so on. They usually offer them to customers who want to return an item or genuinely had a problem.
How do I use a concession coupon? Concession coupon is one time used coupon and has an expiration date of 6 months after it was issued. If you have the concession coupon issued from Home & Home Office, you can only use it on Home & Home Office Deal. Concession coupon CANNOT be Stacked or Combined with other $xx off $xxx, Big buck, E&A or any $ off coupon that is on the Additional Discounts and Coupons. It can be stacked and combined with % (percentage off) coupon.
Note: if you order something under the concession coupon value, even you see $0.00 and able to checkout, DO NOT SUBMIT THE ORDER. It will redeemed the coupon but your order comfirmation will show in FULL PRICE WITHOUT ANY DISCOUNT.
I am only a few dollars/cents short of getting my coupon to work. Are there any fillers on Dell? Home - $9.00 SB - $10.00
How to do a Return? The easiest way is using the online chat, get the RMA#, ask for a prepaid label or have them pick it up for you, as long you return within their return policy date and mention 100% customer satisfaction policy.
How to use the online chat? The link is here, the link might open 24/7, but there is not always someone there to take your question. As long under your customer number there is one order through Home & Home Office, even you get the error saying your customer number or order number doesn't belong to Home, you can simply enter the phone number (any #) without enter your customer number or order number. If you need to copy information during the chat session: highlight the text, press "CTRL+C" and paste it to a document.
I did not receive an Order Acknowledgment/Confirmation Dell usually sends out an order acknowledgment email shortly after an order is placed. This is followed by an order confirmation email. The confirmation has the order number and additional information. I have had instances where I have not received an acknowledgment and other times I have not received the confirmation. The time it takes to receive these emails can vary as well, although typically the acknowledgment is received within 30 minutes of placing the order, and the confirmation is usually 1/2 hour to 2 hours after that.
Do I have to pay tax? or I never used to pay tax and now I do, what's up? Dell Business charges tax on all orders unless you submit a tax exempt certificate. Details and how to submit tax-exemption can be found here
Why are they asking if I am a reseller? What happens if I say I am? If you resell without declaring you're a reseller, you risk being blacklisted by Dell.
If you declare you're a reseller, you are bound by different terms of sale. For more info on becoming a reseller, call 1-800-284-3355.
How do I transfer the warranty or ownership of a Dell system? Dell allows transfer of ownership on systems if there is a new owner. Any remaining warranty will transfer to the new owner.
What about FatCash? FatCash is available for Dell purchases through both the Home and Small Business divisions. Dimension and Inspiron purchases through the Small Business Division are not eligible for FatCash.
Hope this helps some of you and keeps some of the threads a little more focused on the deals. Please reply to this thread if you have anything to add or modify. Maybe this can be a sticky or there can be a new tab for FAQs, especially for deals. Or maybe this will be completely ignored like all of the other FAQs that people work so hard to put together
I just have a question about de11's quarter end and number of rebates someone can get per quarter.
I got 4 room-mates and we all ordered 5 notebooks from de11 today and all of them have rebates. One of my other mates bought a laptop in January, which had a rebate too. So I am just wondering if we all be qualified for the new 5 rebates, or is there any chance that one of the rebates may disqualify.
Correct me if I am wrong. I think de11's quarters are as following:

Good question, I've only done rebates to different addresses, never to the same address with different names. The rebate form says 5 per household but I'm not sure. Hopefully someone more knowledgable with this will be able to respond.
perhaps you can add something about concession coupons, which people here talk about all the time. how does one get them? can they be stacked?
Thanks for the suggesion, added a line about concession coupons. If someone with more concession coupon experience could respond on stackability, i will add that as well. I have only had 1 concession coupon but it did stack with their % off promotion that they were running.
nice post! it will be very useful in next hot deal.. my question is: when will the hot deal come?

Is the part about per quarter true? Where did you see that? I always thought that it was 5 rebates per offer.
Great post. Thanks
Thanks, you're right, updated OP. I think the wording on the SB rebate form is kind of weird b/c it says "5 rebates per promotional period" but my experience has always been per offer
Yeah, you're wasting your time, but thanks though. Seriously. People don't read. They want deals done for them and handed to them. It's that simple.
Anyway, EPP rebates may be limited to 2 unlike the 5 at the other divisions. Here's the text from the EPP rebate form:
Availability and terms of offer may change without notice. Must prove eligibility with proof of employment and valid Member ID. Limit 2 systems per employee.

Thanks for all of the feedback so far everyone At SB, it is 5 rebates per promotional period. The promotional period usually runs about 1 week, sometimes only 2 days. So you can get 5 rebates almost every week.

People have also had their eBay listing canceled for this.

As for the benefit, declaring yourself as a reseller will let you resell PCs without being blacklisted.

People have also had their eBay listing canceled for this. Cancelled for reselling, or for violating copyrights IAW eBay's VERO program? I had one cancelled because of VERO, which seemed at first to be for no good reason. I emailed Dell at the address provided in eBay's notice, and it was because I used pics from the Dell site. I never downloaded them, just put in the image linked from their site, and that's all they needed. Any pics have to be your own. Alternatively, you can provide a simple html link to their site. You can not have any of their pics showing in your auction, no matter where the pic is hosted.
I don't see how they could cancel an auction just because you are selling a Dell computer.

comprx said: I don't see how they could cancel an auction just because you are selling a Dell computer. Simple: Dell asks eBay for the name/address of the seller. If it matches the address of a Dell order that was marked as not for resale, then the seller violated Dell's terms. Dell asks eBay to cancel the auction.
Of course, this probably wouldn't happen if you buy a Dell, use it for a year, then sell it on eBay...it's more for people who sell dozens of Dells every month.

Do you think eBay provides the seller info to Dell? I agree with comprx's post above. eBay may have cancelled auctions because of VERO. If eBay starts respecting Dell's "Cannot Resell" policy, there will be no eBay in a year from now.
my .02 cents.
Thanks

Jayk, comprx, and Bradman, thanks you guys for the reply. In my email, eBay said it is because of VERO.
I think your auction got cancelled due to VERO. For example, you used Dell's images/product descriptions on your auction. I had the same problem before, now I always use my own images and wrote own descriptions, and no problem now.
But I was blacklisted by Dell now and can't order anything from Dell. Can I call them and tell them I want to a reseller and have them release me from blacklist?

If it matches the address of a Dell order that was marked as not for resale, then the seller violated Dell's terms. Dell asks eBay to cancel the auction. Wow, I would be surprised if that happens. What legal right do they have to that information, if there is no evidence of illegal activity? eBay's privacy policy does have a section that comes close though:
"Further, we can (and you authorize us to) disclose your name, street address, city, state, zip code, country, phone number, email, and company name to eBay VeRO Program participants under confidentiality agreement, as we in our sole discretion believe necessary or appropriate in connection with an investigation of fraud, intellectual property infringement, piracy, or other unlawful activity."
Simply reselling a computer, even one you agreed was not intended for resale, doesn't seem to fall under those conditions though.
Dell does seem to have some pretty strong pull in the VeRO program though. All they have to do is make the request and the auction is gone. They may even have the ability to pull the auction themselves. In my one interaction with them, they pulled an auction that was closed already. Payment was received, and the computer shipped before that happened. Because the auction was pulled, eBay refunded all my fees, which was actually a plus. The downside was that they sent a rather ominous email to the buyer recommendding they not complete the transaction. Took a bit to convince him there was no problem.
Before that, I had used their pics in many auctions w/ no problems, so it's a hit-or-miss sort of thing. Since then I just take my own pics, and post a link to product info so the buyer has to go to Dell's site to see any Dell-owned material.

I'm not saying that Dell has done this in the past, but it's definitely possible. Remember this isn't a court of law...eBay will listen to Dell before it listens to a consumer.

So how many of you agree that, Dell picture and description are the only reason they cancel the auction, not the reselling condition?
I guess my account already blacklisted by Dell. attached is the email i received:
Hello,
Though we appreciate your interest in Dell, we are reviewing activity on your account. This email is to inform you or anyone placing orders on your behalf, that Dell reserves the right to cancel your current and future orders and debit your account for any shipping and handling associated with your order. Please note that offers and promotions offered by Dell are subject to certain restrictions and limitations. Specifically, the Small Business site and offers contained herein valid only for end users and not for resellers and/or online auctions, and there is a limit of 5 systems and 5 discounted or promotional products per customer. In addition, your order is subject to the terms and conditions of sale located at www.Dell.com unless you have a separate written agreement with Dell.
If you or any third party acting on your behalf has any further questions, please provide a phone number and convenient time that someone from our team can call you. You may also send an email to: US_SMB_Reseller_Escalations@Dell.com.
Thank you-
US Reseller Escalations
I never bought more than 5 systems but I bought a digital camera like once a week. All of these camera I bought from Dell Home and Dell Home Office not from Dell Small business. From now all my order got cancelled. I just ordered a camera yesterday and it got cancelled. When I replied, I got a response "After reviewing activity on your account, Dell has reason to believe you are purchasing product with the intent to resale on an online auction."
So, is there any way I could order from Dell even for my self?
what you guys think??any idea?

EPP = Employee Purchase Program (are there really that many Dell employees on these forums or is there another way to qualify?). FSS = ???
Basically I'd like to know how/if I can qualify to use these coupons.
You don't have to be an employee of Dell only, many other companies have parternships with Dell and their employees qualify for the EPP program.
