Previously I have a 2002 Corolla, and I had to replace the whole A/C system in 2005. You can imagine that Toyota is officially off my purchasing list from then on. |

Just to name a few..3 day option contract to bring back your car. Lemon Law. As for the finance the banks tell the dealerships how much they can mark the rate up. Most banks only allow 1 to 2 points, not 15. Mr. Black, what makes you an expert of what you are putting on the internet? I see a lot of misinformation on this thread. |

What new law refers to the 3 day option? Many states and cities already had these types of protections in for years...also in many case as long as the lender hasnt given final approval a customer could return the vehicle....i've personal witnessed vehicles being returned 45 days later in this situation...However the OP suggests that there are new laws....I'mm very interested in seeing an official link to these said laws... Not sure how lemon laws are relevant here...again lemon laws are usually determined on a local level...not sure how this pertains to negotiating. Banks have always regulated rates....i've said this time and time again...nothing new here either i'm not putting information spefically on the "internet"....its on fatwallet...People here choose to read and discuss what they will...My expertise comes from years of doing...backed by the many years i've spent helping the readers here...Not once has anyone came back and said "Mr Black you really screwed me" Furthermore, misinformation isnt a word...and the connotation here is that I'm giving false information, which I havent...The car industry is fluid....volatile...full of many different people with many different opinions...its up to the individual to choose what advice to follow....it just so happens that I have a long track record of being accurate... Whats funny to me....comments like these always come from some newbe.....and you guys always come off like some salesman who's trying to put salt in the game...i'm mean come on your best advice is to "If you find a car you like and sit down for about 1 hour you will get a good deal..." then you back it up with "Make it about the car you want , not the deal so much"....come on mr salesman this is dealership speak 101...get em hot for the car so they are easier to negotiate with...I trained many car salesman, I know the game very well... |

Most consumers to do not what laws they are entitled too. Not expressing only to the "negotiation" part of it, just in general. I say on this thread not to you personally. The first one I saw is when a person paid by check and ran his credit. Dealerships do run credit for for their own protection and also for the ID theft of the consumer. You had nothing to do with that, he was upset the dealership ran his credit. The internet is a great tool but not always 100% accurate. I do go on Fat Wallet once in a while so yes I am a "newbe" and I am entitled to my opinion. |

Can someone let me know how much they paid for 2010 Honda CR-V EX-L 4dr SUV AWD w/Navigation (2.4L 4cyl 5A)? Do you think $30,000 OTD a good price on it (zipcode 60077)? Please suggest me if this is the right price for this vehicle. Thanks. |

The laws have been changed to protect the consumer. Which do you want the Altima or Infinity? Leapannie, So if I sat down and picked a car and negotiated (badly) for $1000 over MSRP and signed, and drove off the lot......you are saying there are laws that we are entitled to that protects me from over paying. BS! There is no law that "protects" a consumer from paying MSRP or more. How can you saying that "everyone will get a good deal" after sitting for 1 hour or even 3 hours? Also at a dealership, every purchase should be about the deal and not the car...nor the color, nor the options, nor the friendly salesman....you should only be focusing about the deal. I know that this is your opinion, but serious buyers should ignore your opinion....that MY opinion about YOUR opinion. Readthepost |

ranchopedro, Quick question about your tool. I'm shopping Accords, '09 or '10. When I punch in my numbers the '09 holdback is excessively high (in the order of a few thousand dollars). Can you provide any input? MY '09 '10 MSRP $26,405.00 $26,830.00 Invoice $23,935.00 $24,319.00 Dest. $710.00 $710.00 kazanjig |

Since the used car deal thread seems to have died, thought I'd ask here: what exactly is the "used car tool" in the other thread (link is dead)? |

I'm not 100% sure, but the "used car tool" was probably a program where you inputted certain information and the program would tell you how much was a good offer. I'm sorry, but I have no experience with buying used cars. Mrblackpcs or Ranchopedro might have some advices. |

This thread isn't very active (I check 2 times a week)...and I can't answer your question because I haven't bought the Honda CR-V. But I checked emdunds and the TMV is $30,063 so the dealer's offer of $30,000 OTD might be good. Question: Did you have to negotiate with the dealer to get the $30,000 OTD offer? If you didn't negotiate, I feel that you might be able to cut a little more off the price. Readthepost |

After going through the top 2 google hits when searching for black book car values, I am either not looking in the right place on the sites, or I'm failing at google. Anyone have/know a link to get black book values? Also, used car question for the car gurus: if a dealership has a car (used) that you're interested in, but is somewhat far away, are you better off attempting to negotiate via email (with mention of something about the car passing your mechanic's inspection), or making the trip there to inspect/test-drive/etc., & then negotiating via email (& possibly making the trip back if you decide the car is a good deal)? |

Look through the Edmunds.com forums for people who have recently purchased a similar vehicle. And if your OTD price includes taxes and fees, then how would anyone know if it is a good price if they don't know where you live? |

Look right?
We're looking
Where are you getting the $2000 you are discounting your OTD price? As far as I've been able to find online and by talking to people, there is no dealer cash on the Fit right now.
Other than that, I think your numbers look good. We're looking to purchase a 2010 Subaru Outback Premium, and I've been trying to calculate the lowball OTD price and am also curious about the $2000 subtraction figure. Why is everybody using $2K as a stock amount irrespective of their starting ETI price? Shouldn't it be a percentage of some sort? Does the original formula from the first post in the thread apply mainly to vehicles in the $20K or $25K or $30K range? |
