Went in to my local Staples today to pick up a TracFone card. I had been in only a few days ago and noted that they did indeed carry them. But today, nothing. Empty pegs where the TracFone cards were.

Talked to the manager and he said that they had been told to pull all TracFone cards and no longer sell them. No details but "something is up with them" (whatever that means). A call to a few other western PA stores confirmed that none of them carry them now.

Anyone know what's up? Is this chain-wide? Oddly enough, they still had a few phones on the shelf, but no cards.

CC used to carry Virgin phones

Same thing here in Phila. Staples manager said a corp email directed all Tracfone "cards" be pulled. He said they were unable to activate them at the register but I asked how could they still be selling the Tracfone Phones and he did not know why. I sent an email to Staples CS, will post if they reply. Sad......I always get my 1 years cards at Staples with a coupon. Hate to pay full retail...

Virgin Mobile is still at best buy. Seems to be going strong in my area.

Tracphone is still going strong in WalMart in my area.

Did a bit of Google work.

It appears Tracfone has removed Staples from its list of retailers. Note the cached Google data (as retrieved on Feb 24, 2005 19:25:08 GMT)has Staples as a retailer but the current "about us" link on the Tracfone web site does not. Looks like Tracfone is history at Staples.

Samsclub is slightly discounted, enough to cover tax in NC <img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-frown.gif" border=0>

VirginMobile is still the better deal. They are much more polite to deal with and their cards are easy to find. You dont need to be on the phone or computer to add minutes thats nuts!
