It has a pretty generic Broadcom chipset. Reports of succesful bridging with Apple Airports and a few Linksys/etc routers exist.
But the whole point of a $10 router is you can buy a gazillion (only 4 will bridge together BTW), and retain your existing router and use these as a massive 16-port, 4-location wireless switch |

Otherwise what good is the bridging feature on this router for anyone that does not already have one of those? "What good" is this feature?? This product is a router with integrated switch just like all the other consumer-grade routers on the market... except you get the Bridging feature "for free". And the cost is less than most other similar router+switch on the market, none of which offer Bridging.
Quit complaining! Just buy another Belkin 7230-4 for $10 AR next time they are on sale, it happens once or twice a month lately at BB, CC, Cusa.
Alternatively, buy a dedicated wireless bridge or "gaming adapter" for $60-80. But I don't think those are guaranteed to work with all routers, either. |

Also -a Caveat Emptor and YMMV on those bridges (especially game adaptors)!
Most of tehm are starting to (conveniently) lose the capability of being hooked to a switch and having multiple devices have their DNS & TCP/IP requests forwarded via them to the access point or router serving the wireless network.
So if you have more than one device at a location (eg a home theater PC, TiVo and PS2), you would have to buy 3 bridges!!!!!!! EVIL! |

Assuming I get the router and PM, I will probably make another thread similar to this one to discuss that router... Unless someone beats me to it. |

No need to make a frsh thread. The 7231-4 is a 7230 with a tiny bit better firmware (possibly identical hardware, definitely identical other hardware)
They bridge together, and fall back to plain-jane G mode (no fancy-fake 125MBPS mode) and WPA is also disabled when bridged.
Buy 7231-4 and 7230-4 in any combination when you find good deals. I use 2 v.1444 7230's and one v.1000 7230 and know others who mix 7231s and 7230s. From a bridging point of view - no difference. |

I think I've even read about people upgrading their 7230-4 to a 7231-4 with firmware, but I don't know any details and don't want to be blamed for people wrecking their routers. |

I'm having trouble with print sharing. I can view all the shared documents on my laptop from my desktop and I can see the desktop icon in workgroups from my laptop, but when I try to access it, it says it's not accessible. Have followed all the directions in the print sharing forum, but have had no luck.
Any help is appreciated. |

Can the 7231-4P be used as print server to connect a printer WIRELESSLY to a network or must the 7231-4P have a WIRED connection to be used as a print server? |

Answers to print sharing and other networking questions are in this sticky in the computer forum
And you cannot use any bridge to turn a USB printer into a network printer. They lack the print server capability.

The 7231-4P has a print server but I don't have that model and can't answer your questions. I'm sure Belkin's free support could help with your questions. I have to imagine it would work both wired and wireless, but don't know for sure.
Anyways this thread is about the 7230-4. |

vpr said:Have anyone tried briding Belkin F5D7230-4 with linksys WRT-54G(firmware from linksys, which comes with the box)
Thanks
I need to know the answer to this question also. Everything I've found about WDS on the WRT54G is bridging two Linksys routers. I had a Belkin network setup and recently got a WRT54G because I needed some more custom stuff in the firmware (mainly QoS), so I loaded up DD-WRT onto the Linksys (which also gave access to WDS). Anyway, I cannot get the WRT54G to see the Belkins (2 of them, now). Can anyone point me to a tutorial or FAQ to help me out? |

If you're using WPA, make sure you got the latest firmware on the belkin.
My friend has a belkin & a wrt54g bridged using wds with wpa quite successfully..
Also, make sure you're entered the proper mac addresses. You want the wlan (not lan, not wan) mac from router1 entered in router2, and vice versa.

I'm not even using wpa. I've got the wlan mac address for the blekin in the WDS area of the linksys, and the wlan mac address of the wrt54g in the belkin in the wireless bridge menu, with the belkin set as an ap (not a router). I thought it would be as simple as that, but it's not working. |

Hi guys, I have the 72314 and 72304, trying to get them bridge together, anyway just a note to everyone who plans to use the 125HSM. If you bridge together 2 72314, the manual specifically said you can't get 125HSM, you still only get 802.11g speed even though you have 2 72314.

I just went and picked up the 7230-4's at bestbuy.
Talk about a great deal for $10 each.
I got two, it took me awhile to get everything set up, but now it seems to be working flawlessly. I will update if I get drops etc.
I have two, the 2nd one in bridged mode using WPA w/ AES.
Works awesome! Perfect for my replayTV! |

Hi all, For all that cannot bridge together, I found out that you cannot have two DHCP servers turned on. This was not said in the manual about setting up the servers. This will then work with both wireless and wired. cheers
