If you are in the market for a subaru impreza or wrx wagon, look at the Saab 92x. It's mechanically almost identical to those models (built on the same assembly line), looks nicer, has upgraded steering, better sound isolation and stiffer suspension. With the current $4,500 rebate + $1000 GM hot button bonus, it ends up being cheaper than the subies with a longer warrentee and scheduled maintenience.
EDIT: The Rebate seems to be up to $6,000 on the Aero. The Linear is still at $5,500. The Aero rebate maybe $7,000. I'm waiting to see if they are including the $1,000 hot button or not.

I got a Black 92x aero with premium and sport packages for $23,500, which included leather, sunroof, xenon lights, and 17" enkei rims. If you are a GM employee the deal gets even sweeter. If you delete those ~4000 packages you can get the car for well under 20k. Factor in the 2 years of scheduled service, free loaner cars, and the extra year and 12,000 miles of warrentee and you can see how this is a hot deal if you were in the market for a WRX.

I'm 6 foot 210 pounds and I fit just fine. I got mine for $8,000 under MSRP. They aren't advertising these rebates too much. I don't think most people know about these cars. You can call the dealer to find out the specifics on the rebates. Good luck, it's a really great car. The best wrx in my mind.
Well, it is about the same as the WRX which starts at just above $21k. It is a comparable deal if you want leather and other fancy features that do not come in WRX.

Do you know if I can use my GM earnings on this? I've got $3500 accrued, that would be a sweet deal.
If you are looking to buy a WRX, this is a better, fancier WRX. If you are looking to buy a Saab, buy a 9-3 or 9-5... Made in Japan with the ignition key on the column does not make a Saab.

I don't think you got his "joke"...
It's a shame that GM didn't spend more time overhauling the interior of these things before they branded it a Saab. It's a nice car, but it's really a slap to the face of Saab. It's basically an Impreza with a Saab decal on the stearing wheel. I own a 9-3 and it's a great car...I'm constantly getting compliments on it. I may have leaned the 9-2x direction if the car had more personality. It's a good car, but the only thing exciting about it is the engine...and that's not even exciting unless you go for the upgraded engine.

It's funny how Saab people bash this car because it's not a true Saab. Well, no it's not, but it's a heck of a good car. But, while we're on that point the 93 is really not a "real" saab either. It's based on the GM global Epsilon platform (the same one as the malibu and the G6) and is nearly identical to an Opel. My dad had a real saab 900 back in the day, and the crappy reliability made me swear not to get a "real" saab. But with this deal I couldn't resist getting a saabaru.

I am an avid wrx fan and was even an owner until mine flooded 6 months ago. Since then I have been tracking the wrx/92x and wanted to throw in my 2 cents. These 92x's are extreamly cheap right now, but they are cheap for a reason and that reason is resale value. Not only will the resale values be very low becuase everyone is getting them cheap, but subaru is chaning the wrx next year. It will be getting a bigger engine which will make its way into the saab also. So if your looking for a car to keep for 6 or so years this is a good deal. If your looking for a car to trade-in in a couple years this may not be such a good deal.

And I'm 6'0", 185 pounds. As a former owner, I'd say the car's pretty dam cramped. You don't really notice until you're an owner.

haha, that other thread crapper is a typical saab owner..snobby for no reason at all. apparently poor reliability and an inflated price tag makes for a desirable brand. I guess he will be disappointed that his 93 has already seen some of the effects of GM's design consolidation bagofchips and autologic both have good points..the car IS smallish and they are coming out with a new wrx model next year (most likely with the 2.5l turbo). but the 2.0 turbo is already pretty peppy, and there are plenty of aftermarket mods around if you need more power. basically this deal is what it is..a pretty decent AWD car with SUBARU reliability for a cheap price. Basically with these rebates it is selling for less than what you can get a WRX for. and that is with a (marginally) better interior, better front end styling, and a sportier suspension. You can even get it with leather and HID. sure it's not an audi or a bmw, but you're getting it for 20k + change.
Caution: I heard the $5500 rebate goes to the New Rochelle rebate center, and requires ORIGINAL receipt, UPC, and title of vehicle to be submitted. No copies!
Note: The UPC can be easily found by removing steering column and front dash. Careful not to cut any wires. Use blow dryer as to remove UPC completely intact.
If it was an EasyRebate, I'd be all over this!

I think there is a $2500 off $20,000 coupon floating around the board here somewhere. No begging please...this is not the proper forum for that. Go buy on eBay. I think they're going for $1.99 + $999.99 shipping & handling.
Bump, i think its pretty sweet that you can pick up a new WRX for so low!

this is a great deal. To others complaining not a real saab I guess you own a panos then well nope that has a ford engine, porsche nope vw audi parts, Jaguar oops ford again, ok bentley oops vw again, etc.
Do you need any more examples of automobiles not being unique anymore?
With these discounts your getting a saab for less than a subaru. OF course its not much less due to the fact the prices of the saab were inlfated to begin with but overall a nice deal.
As far as a redesign goes resale on these especially will still be quite high due to several factors limited availabilty, incredible performance for the buck, most of the redsign upgrades will be better performance which can be had with aftermarket improvements. Honestly though how fast do you need to go 0-60 in a station wagon anyway? maybe a few hundreds of a second but i can assure you proally not even a full second and heck you can make that up by learning how to shift properly. Cause belive me to achieve that difference you will need to now how to shift to maximize the performance.
I hope you're not referring to me as a thread crapper and snobby. I'm not thread crapping at all. I think the 9-2x is a good car...and I was actually excited about Saab adding a new car to their line up. The part that dissapointed me is that they didn't Saab-ize the saabaru. Saab's have a certain interior style that, after being around Saabs for a while, you expect to see. They didn't really change anything to distinguish it from the Subaru...that's the dissapointing part. You get better seats, that's about it.
I'm not snobby, I'm just a Saab fan and wish they would have made this a compelling new option for Saab fans. And while it is a compelling new option for the population as a whole, it just doesn't hit the spot when you're looking for Saab design.
we have a saab 9-3 convertible, 5 spd manual w/ a turbo. Its a 96, has 220,000 miles on it and it runs as smooth as the day i bought it. I think most people who complain about cars are the people who dont take good care of them.

this is a subaru.
anyways whats the final cost? isn't the 92x $5k more than a wrx anyways?
This is a joke. He's just being the token FW person who "bought xxx of these." Then everyone flames that guy and tells him what a miserable bast!@# he is and the he is going to put them all on eBay and make a profit, etc.

its sad that saab is now forced to do the rebate thing -- one of the main reasons for rapid depreciation of american cars is the drastic rebates used to get people to buy their cars

BMW... Still 100% original
Actually, BMW has a pretty lengthy history of using GM automatic transmissions (most car companies have used them actually). To the original poster, having a little shared parts content, Porsche or Bentley for example, does not equate to sharing the same chassis/platform or in the case of the 9-2X being a rather homely reskin of the WRX.

Sharing a chasis is fine. Chevy took the Opal and so did Saab. They made two completely different cars out of it. Who really cares about sharing of parts? If this means that they can use better parts at a lower price, go for it. Each company still molds the vehicle to their own image/style/vision. But it's quite a bit different when you take one companies totally complete car and just put new seat covers on it.
There is a difference between sharing of parts and rebadging...

It is still a great car, who cars about a rebadging if it's a great car. I'd rather have a rebadged excellent car than a car with crappy quality that doesn't compare favorably to other cars that also shares parts with other cars. Remember the WRX is a consumer reports best pick. It has the best initial quality in the segment, good predicted reliability, good predicted depreciation, AWD and best performance numbers for the buck. And while yes it is a rebadge, it's not just the seat covers that are different. The cars sheetmetal is completely different from the A pillars forward. The roofline is different. The hatch door, rear bumper, and roofline are completely different as well. They deleted the roof rails, added a sunroof, added 80 pounds of sound deadening (it's now quieter than the WRX sedan). They changed the suspension mounts, springs, and bushings. They also changed the steering rack to the STI's 15:1 version. They changed the seats to add height adjustment, they made added leather as an option and changed the headrest to saab's active head restraint system. They also made the side airbags standard. Yes the interior is almost the same, but this is more that putting new seat covers on an already top rated car.
