If you are in the market for a subaru impreza or wrx wagon, look at the Saab 92x. It's mechanically almost identical to those models (built on the same assembly line), looks nicer, has upgraded steering, better sound isolation and stiffer suspension. With the current $4,500 rebate + $1000 GM hot button bonus, it ends up being cheaper than the subies with a longer warrentee and scheduled maintenience.

EDIT: The Rebate seems to be up to $6,000 on the Aero. The Linear is still at $5,500. The Aero rebate maybe $7,000. I'm waiting to see if they are including the $1,000 hot button or not.

As of 07/19/06
$5000 rebate on 06 92x
Current GM rebates

The quick summary has been updated to indicate the August Saab 92x deals. The GM employee pricing is currently valid. The rebates are currently at $5000/$4000 for the Aero/Linear. Thus, the prices indicated below are accurate.

Most discussions prior to the August 1st date reflect the previous (April/May/June/July) deals and not current.

SAAB GM EMPLOYEE PRICE SHEET------> Courtesy of User12345

Base Aero GM employee price -------------------> $20,425 ($24,600 +$695 Transportation fee +$130 Prep & Handling fee -$5000 rebate)
Sport package GM employee price -------------> $1,716
Premium package GM employee price --------> $1,492
Cold package GM employee price --------------> $528
Automatic GM employee price -------------------> $1,188

Base Linear GM employee pricing -------------> $17,821 ($20,996 + $695 Transportation + $130 Prep & Handling - $4000 rebate)
Automatic GM employee price -------------------> $1,188
Moonroof GM employee price -------------------->$1,056
Cold package GM employee price -------------> $528
Premium package GM employee price ------->$2,196

Pick and choose the packages you want and add them to the base price to get a total price.

NOTE 1 - The much misunderstood $2500 rebate does not apply to the 92x model
NOTE 2 - GM Card point CANNOT be used toward the purchase of a SAAB. thats incorrect if you have the GM Extended Family Card, you are allowed to use points toward SAAB.

North Carolina Residents:

More information on this tax thing. I called the Dept. of Revenue this morning (can you tell I'm procrastinating?) and here's the REAL skinny.

Highway use tax (the 3% is HUT and not sales tax) is applied on the purchase price after the value of the trade. Now, what can affect the "purchase price" written on the bill of sale is important. (From this page):

Rebate: Rebates are paid to the customer at a later date and therefore not subtracted from the sales price.
Discount: Discounts are issued by the dealer at the time of purchase and can reduce the sales price.

Regardless of what GM/Saab are calling the $5000/6000, according to the DMV, it's a discount because we don't get it at a later date. That means we should not be taxed on it.

If NC residents have been getting taxed on their purchases pre-discount, I can only think of 2 reasons: the dealer is ignorant of the laws or they're doing some funny business behind the scenes. I'll let you know how my visit to the dealer goes tomorrow. Wish me luck!

Great car if you're shorter than 5'8".

alert mods

where can i find the information about these rebates? thanks.

alert mods

I cant find any info about the rebates on either edmunds.com or saabusa.com

alert mods

I got a Black 92x aero with premium and sport packages for $23,500, which included leather, sunroof, xenon lights, and 17" enkei rims. If you are a GM employee the deal gets even sweeter. If you delete those ~4000 packages you can get the car for well under 20k. Factor in the 2 years of scheduled service, free loaner cars, and the extra year and 12,000 miles of warrentee and you can see how this is a hot deal if you were in the market for a WRX.

alert mods

I'm 6 foot 210 pounds and I fit just fine. I got mine for $8,000 under MSRP. They aren't advertising these rebates too much. I don't think most people know about these cars. You can call the dealer to find out the specifics on the rebates. Good luck, it's a really great car. The best wrx in my mind.

alert mods

Well, it is about the same as the WRX which starts at just above $21k. It is a comparable deal if you want leather and other fancy features that do not come in WRX.

alert mods

Do you know if I can use my GM earnings on this? I've got $3500 accrued, that would be a sweet deal.

alert mods

GM Card earnings are not good on Saab.

If you are looking to buy a WRX, this is a better, fancier WRX. If you are looking to buy a Saab, buy a 9-3 or 9-5...
Made in Japan with the ignition key on the column does not make a Saab.

I don't think you got his "joke"...

It's a shame that GM didn't spend more time overhauling the interior of these things before they branded it a Saab. It's a nice car, but it's really a slap to the face of Saab. It's basically an Impreza with a Saab decal on the stearing wheel. I own a 9-3 and it's a great car...I'm constantly getting compliments on it. I may have leaned the 9-2x direction if the car had more personality. It's a good car, but the only thing exciting about it is the engine...and that's not even exciting unless you go for the upgraded engine.

alert mods

It's funny how Saab people bash this car because it's not a true Saab. Well, no it's not, but it's a heck of a good car. But, while we're on that point the 93 is really not a "real" saab either. It's based on the GM global Epsilon platform (the same one as the malibu and the G6) and is nearly identical to an Opel. My dad had a real saab 900 back in the day, and the crappy reliability made me swear not to get a "real" saab. But with this deal I couldn't resist getting a saabaru.

What state are u in, rebates might be regional.

Edmund's discussion of 9-2x

I'm in Cali, but from the discussions in this forum, it seems to be national.

alert mods

I am an avid wrx fan and was even an owner until mine flooded 6 months ago. Since then I have been tracking the wrx/92x and wanted to throw in my 2 cents. These 92x's are extreamly cheap right now, but they are cheap for a reason and that reason is resale value. Not only will the resale values be very low becuase everyone is getting them cheap, but subaru is chaning the wrx next year. It will be getting a bigger engine which will make its way into the saab also. So if your looking for a car to keep for 6 or so years this is a good deal. If your looking for a car to trade-in in a couple years this may not be such a good deal.

I'm still driving a Saab 9000, with the ignition on the column. It's not a Saab?

And I'm 6'0", 185 pounds. As a former owner, I'd say the car's pretty dam cramped. You don't really notice until you're an owner.

haha, that other thread crapper is a typical saab owner..snobby for no reason at all. apparently poor reliability and an inflated price tag makes for a desirable brand. I guess he will be disappointed that his 93 has already seen some of the effects of GM's design consolidation
bagofchips and autologic both have good points..the car IS smallish and they are coming out with a new wrx model next year (most likely with the 2.5l turbo). but the 2.0 turbo is already pretty peppy, and there are plenty of aftermarket mods around if you need more power.
basically this deal is what it is..a pretty decent AWD car with SUBARU reliability for a cheap price. Basically with these rebates it is selling for less than what you can get a WRX for. and that is with a (marginally) better interior, better front end styling, and a sportier suspension. You can even get it with leather and HID. sure it's not an audi or a bmw, but you're getting it for 20k + change.
