Why was this thread locked for nearly a month? Because abusive practices occurred using PM for sending referral links that directly benefited the sendor. Many times this was NOT disclosed to the receiver on the link and is against FW policy. "Free Stuff Forum" rules apply here too.
What can we do to prevent this from happening again? By behaving. NO PERSONAL REFERRAL LINKS OR LINK BEGGING!
Rules on Learning How to Fish For Yourself 101:
1. Please do not ask for links. Moderation is occurring and via PM messages. Referral links either way (posting here or PM) will cause this thread to be locked and ultimately deleted.
2. Find affiliate links that will work. Most commonly they are found as value-added sales from large online e-tailers (eg: VistaPrint, Linens-N-Things, Snapfish, and VictoriaSecret). Other places commonly offered after calling your credit card company, AOL, DISH/Cable, or cell phone company (value added program offers). The final option is to use google and search for the program that you desire. Occasionally you will find official sponsored links on a sidebar or at the top, or look at the results for what appear to be link farms and sign up there.
3. Find 'free item' sites and signup YOURSELF for these sites with the purpose of gaining the link, not gaining the referral credit. Please, DO NOT post these individualized referral links ANYWHERE on FW. The rules of "Free Stuff" applies here too. Signup to these sites using a bogus email to prevent SPAMMING. Look for the programs offering "FREE $25 Gift Card", usually to Lowe's or WalMart. These are links that will bring you to a dealpass program.
Here is a 'CliffNotes (USA) / ColesNotes (Canada)' summary of what Dealpass is all about:
From what we can figure out - Dealpass is a marketing company that offers 'clubs' where you pay a membership fee and get to buy gift cards at a 20% discount. You can't signup directly for these clubs - you usually get a popup offering you to join when you buy something from another site - or - through a personal 'referral link' - which is a big no-no on Fatwallet (and please don't ask me for one as I don't have any). I got in to the club by googling for the club name and found a site that had it which was: searchcactus.com. I had to become a member of that site for free and then I was able to see a whole page of club offers to join a 'savings club' - including Today's Escapes (abbreviated TE in the Dealpass thread).
Sign up online & you can then order $125 of gas cards a month for stations such as Shell, Speedway, SuperAmerica and Sunoco. That is $125 total for all gas cards - you can mix it up between stations (or all from the same station) any way you want. (deleted 11/06)
Need more than $125 a month? Then get your sibling/wife/husband/grandparent (see we are still useful!) to sign up as well. ..OR.. if you have more than one credit card - clone yourself as Joe Smith, Joseph Smith and so on (the clubs typically restrict membership to one per person. (it’s more complex – see discussion)
You pay full price for these gift cards when you buy them from the club - but at the start of the next month you get 20% rebated back to you on the credit card you used to buy the cards on. The cards are ordered online and are mailed to you (at no charge for mailing).
Each club you join has a initial entry fee - usually $1 for a 7 day trial (which does you no good seeing as you have to REMAIN a member of the club to get the 20% rebate the following month). Following your 7 day trial, the club charges you a monthly membership fee which ranges around $20 a month BUT - you can usually call in to the 1-800 number for the club and select the option about 'getting information on your membership' - and the system will (usually) offer you the choice of paying the next monthly fee (the $20) the one time and then you get the rest of the year for free. So if you do that - you pay effectively $21 for a full year's membership.
But wait, ..... there's more....
The clubs have many other retalers that they offer cards for - ranging from Amazon.com to (deleted 11/06) Target. See the second summary post of the dealpass thread for a list of those retailers. Each club has a different mix of cards - which is why some people have memberships in different clubs. And... as long as you get the offer to pay only the one monthly fee - the net cost to you will be minimal.
But wait, ..... there's more....
Todays Escapes (and some other similar clubs) have a mail-in rebate that you have to call in and ask for. This is a 5% rebate (to a maximum of $25) on any airline flight, tour, cruise, car rental or hotel stay. Just mail in the rebate form with a copy of your receipt (being sure to keep a photocopy as any good fatwalleter does) and you should get the rebate.
Sometimes these rebates are one per year, with Todays Escapes I got 2 of them - so I get $50 for paying $21 plus I get 20% off in purchases that I'm going to be making anyway. Such a deal!!

Either you get it or you don't. If it shows up on the automated system, it will show up if you call. Random accounts get flagged at random times. For 3 weeks now, I've been calling the phone number, and going thru the prompts on my HW+ account. No go. Yesterday, it offered it. No rep has the ability to "give" it unless it pops up.
Just wait. Be Patient, and for fluckk sake, stop calling the reps and asking for it directly. I called to change the mailing address on my TE account yesterday, and rep actually says "you are the first call I had today where someone wasn't asking for a year free" - you people are so stupid. Like on SlickD/FW/all these sites, NEVER CALL AND ASK SPECIFICALLY. If you do that, they will know the info is massively leaked, and will make the appropriate move (more restrictive, cancel it, etc).
If your account is blessed, and it is something that *will* be offered to you, you will be offered it. If not, quit complaining, and don't blame us for your bad luck.

- lbcmd reported, "Dealpass replied that the Main Street Savings membership is only offered by Household and GM bank to their cardholders. We do not have any further information as to whom and when they will be making the membership available".
- Called to cancel Passport to Fun, whas offered 1 year membership for $14.95, by their automated system. Membership automatically cancels when the year is up.
