This unit is heavy duty, puts out great pressure & flow (2700 x 2.5 = 6750 CP). The pump is very serviceable (not German or Italian) with a sight glass to monitor oil level and you get a decent quality Honda engine. It does'nt have pretty colors or fancy plastic accesory trays and it gets the job done.

If you talk to the Manager and show them a comparable unit from Lowes or Home Depot for less they usually give you 10% off to make the sale.

THanks for the post OP. I'm in the market for one, and have hoped to see some discussion on these. -Anyone ever tried the higher-end electrics for light-duty use?

Man, I was just saying the other day how Fatwallet should have an 'official pressure washer' thread. Thanks OP!

Electric one arent really worth it in my opinion unless you only plan to use it on the deck and maybe a car. They dont get the kick that the gas powered ones do. At least in my experience.

Anyone have any experience with the two below? I sure wish they
would run a sale on them. Price has not moved...............
I am considering either one of these:

Keep your eyes open for open-box 6HP 2500PSI Excell pressure washers at Home Depot. I bought one that was essentially brand new for $202 after I used my 10% Lowes coupon. It does a heck of a job with the concrete in my backyard. I'm very happy with it.

My Home Depot (Turnersville/Sicklerville NJ) had at least 6 of these open box.

Saw a similar, but slightly less powerful pressure washer than the one OP mentioned at Sam's for $299.

Specs:
5.5 HP Honda Engine
2500 PSI
2.2 GPM

Link

Not bad for something 30% less money.

The heart of any pressure washer is the pump not the engine!

The consumer is blind to this so most manufactures like TROYBILT will advertise the HONDA engine, but fail to tell you about the cheap FAIP pump they use.

Your best bet is to contact a repair shop and ask them about pumps. They will have two recommendations: CAT & COMET.

I originally purchased the pressure at Sam's for $299.

Specs:
5.5 HP Honda Engine
2500 PSI
2.2 GPM

Link

After returning 3 of them for pump related oil leaks & failures I did the research and thus my recommendation.

Hope this is not a stupid question... Why is this a hot deal?

Never put a pressure washer in your pants.... word to the wise...

"Hope this is not a stupid question... Why is this a hot deal? "

I guess I was considering it a HOT DEAL compared to the crap that's out there.......

Good point.....I just realized I should've put this in the discussion forum....sorry.

Were these pressure washers the ones they previously rented out to customers?
Also, why were there so many open boxes of these? I never see any of them
at my local HD.

Add $100 - $200 onto purchase price for a CAT or Commet pump.

They were definitely not rentals.. they looked brand new. No idea why there were so many of them.

why does this thread have a negative ranking?
seems a useful thread to me.

I bought a Karcher 210 (1300 psi) three years ago. It was used only for a few times (maybe 10 to 20 operational hours) and broke yesterday. There are a lot Karcher 1600 psi in Costco for less than $140.00. Not sure want to buy Karcher again. Any good quality and low cost washer there? Thanks.

Kragen, aka Checker Auto has a few for sale. They also have a generous 30 day return policy. I think a 2500psi electric model was about $149. Don't aim them at your feet.

Just find $150 in cleaning jobs in 30 days & get your money back working for one.

dead thread?

Thanks for the help

My hubby has a Karcher also and I think it is a 1300 also. The hose broke and we found out it costs almost as much to replace as the washer costs to begin with. I don't want another one like that for sure.

I am looking for a hose replacement for the Karcher does anyone have any idea where I could find one? Or someplace to get a hose fixed? It is a shame to throw the whold pressure washer away when the hose has a place that is coming apart and leaking so it is losing pressure.

Northern Tool has the 2600 / 2.5 gpm pressure washer on sale at 359.99.
Has the comet pump, 25' hose, tips, etc. Open charge account
and save additional 10 percent.......

Lowes, HD, NortherTool, etc.

I checked with Karcher company and the hose costs more than the pressure washer did new. I have not thought about Lowes' ect. for a replacement hose. I will ask, thanks.

You can ask for a replacement as long as it's still under warranty. They have a 800 number you can call and ask customer service.
rapid exchange program

Hope it helps.

What ever you do don,t get that electric Husky 1750 from Home Depot..

Lotta bad reports on that unit, I got one 2 years old, never used, that was broke..free.

Lota people don,t know it but you can never completely drain these units and they have to be stored in a place where they never freeze...the person that had it put some water in the unit just to test it, then kept it in unheated garage..

At any rate I have been waiting on parts for a month, after 2 weeks I sent email, no reply, they don,t answer..so I call them, after 18 days..They say they are back ordered and waiting on parts from Italy..

Parts are way over priced, we figure you could spend a $1,000 or more on that $169 power washer just on parts and not have a complete unit..

Consumer reports rates the Krachen as a better unit and I see them for $135 at Menard's and Sam's..

I don,t think either unit is that good even for only occasional home use,,they are just not made to last very long..or repair..

Its not under the warranty. Figures doesn't it? Thanks though.

I have found it is better to spend the extra $100 on things such as these.
I would rather spend money up front than have it break and pay the +$100 later.
The pumps from Northern have 2 year warrenty and they repair them on the spot.
Stay away from electric & Karcher pumps...............

Does anyone know how these new Subaru engines are? And what pump comes w/ this unit?

All the motors today seem to be good..Everything else will wear out before the motor will.!

At this time of year everybody is starting to put them on sale..Local Big lot stores here,(there kind of like a overstock outlet store) have 5 HP Honda, Kracher pump on them, looks like nice heavy duty unit, ballon tires, metal spray wand what have you for 239..

Here's a good review on Amazon.com

I'm going to find out today what kind of pump the excell at Home Depot has and may very well but the one the OP suggested.review

Also, I called Home Depot, they said the pressure washer that are over 2700 psi have the general pump which cat makes. Below that was a different brand which I can't remember

Tried everything to get free shipping or 10% discount. Nothing worked. Home Depot, right now, has their $699 presssure washer on sale for $599 thru labor day. With a 10% eBay coupon, you can get it for $540. It comes with the Honda OHV engine, CAT pump, 2800 PSI (CAT pump is supposidly better thant Comet + I don't think Northern Tool's Honda Engine is the OHV over head valve).

Unfortuantely, I would have to pay tax, bringing the HD one to around $590 vs. $500 Nothern Tool. Northern Tool doesn't come fully assembled either and if something goes wrong, you would have to pay for shipping charges to send back to fix or replace. It would have been nice to get this from Northern Tool for $450, but the manager said that it has to be apples to apples to price match and since they make their own, they wouldn't be able to do it. Looks like I'm going to HD.
