How can I use this wirelessly?
I just picked up 2 of them and the mgr. sold them for $39.99 ea. He knows I'd be back for the price match anyway!!!! Don't have time to play around with them now but....is this possible.......?
Put a wireless network adapter into the usb port of this gizmo...will it communicate with my wireless d-link router? I noticed on the mfg.'s website that they also sell a wireless Netdisk...Wonder if they just did what I would like to do. I'm not that savvy on external drives or networks..other than the usual home consumer stuff. Am sure one of you IT's out there know the answer!!!
TIA...

From their FAQ page: 11. Are there any known issues with NetDisk? There is a compatibility issue when used with certain wireless routers/cards. It does work when not using the wireless function (wired connection). The unsupported routers/cards are: DLINK-713P, 714P SMC-7004AWBR, SMC7000VWBR Linksys WAG54G Linksys WPC11 Version 4 card
If you have a router using that has Turbo Mode, then you may have to switch to 54G mode to use with NetDisk.
Also Mirroring and Aggregation of NetDisk is not supported via wireless. Every computer must access NetDisk from a wired connection if using this feature.
NetDisk must also be plugged into a switch and not a hub. Most routers do come with built in switches.

You can not turn this one into a wireles netdisk. All you can do, if you have a wired port available for this one, put it next to your router and write to it wirelesly from your pc/laptop, as a network share. Unfortunately, these devices are not clever enough to handle wired to wireless bridging and I am not sure if there is a thing-a-magic which plugs into a wired ethernet port and turns it to wireless. Even if it does, it would be cost prohibitive right now. |

Yes it does work as wireless data server. I have 80GB version (switched for 200GB one) connected to 54G wireless router (netgear) and it works fine. It serves as a central repository for all my media files, including some video files. It is like video streaming center |

So you bought them all. I've been on the phone for half an hour checking all the stores from San Jose to Fremont. All sold out. I'm trying the 2 SF stores and Emeryville next.

Would it be safe to just go for the simple price-match tomorrow, receipt in hand w/out the actual product, or should I take the drive and be prepared for a return/rebuy? |

These reviews are pretty good. soupcxan said:Here are reviews of the same unit in a larger size (NDU10-160, deal is for the NDU10-120):
epinions.com 12 reviews
Overall it gets 3 stars out of 5, however all the negative reviews deal with the ethernet capabilities of this drive not working so well. If you're buying it just to use with a single computer via USB 2.0 (like I am), I think you'll be fine. Ignoring the ethernet features, $40 for a 120GB USB2.0 drive is pretty hot. I don't see any reviews that talk about the drive being of low quality like a previous poster mentioned. |
