I saw it for the lower price at my local Office Depot. I could not find the $50 rebate however. I found one that expired 8/1 for $50. It was a big laptop so I went with the Gateway.
The Basics
* Hard Drive: The 100 GB hard drive (4200 RPM) is above average in size, and is befitting of such an entertainment-centric laptop. You'll be able to store a hefty digital audio library. * Processor: The 1.6 GHz Pentium M (Centrino) Processor 730 is at the lower end of the speed spectrum for this processor class (March, 2005). It is well equipped for office productivity software tasks, from complex spreadsheets to databases. The Pentium M processor is designed specifically for low-power mobile usage, and it features the latest in power-saving technologies--ensuring you push your battery and productivity to the max. It also has a large 2 MB L2 cache--which will help speed up your system's performance--and a 533 MHz front-side bus (FSB). * Memory: The 512 MB of installed RAM is a good start, but you'll want to take advantage of the roomy 2 GB of total RAM capacity (2 x 1 GB) for such multimedia needs as video editing and immersive 3D gaming. * CD/DVD Drive: Offering the latest in DVD writing technology, the dv4030us multiformat DVD/CD drive is compatible with both DVD+ and DVD- disc formats as well as dual-layer DVD+R discs, which can store up to 8.5 GB of data. * Keyboard & Mouse: This notebook has a 101-key keyboard and a touchpad with on/off button and dedicated vertical/horizontal Scroll Up/Down pad.
Screen, Graphcs and Sound The high-definition 15.4-inch WXGA BrightView widescreen display--with 1280 x 800-pixel resolution--has 30 percent more screen information than a 15-inch XGA, providing visibility of two applications side by side for greater productivity and multi-tasking. The BrightView feature provides a 20 percent brighter screen for better definition and 33 percent wider viewing angle for more accurate, off-center viewing when sharing files files. Video and graphics are powered by the Intel Graphics Media Accelerator 900, which provides 128 MB of shared video memory. It also has HP Premium audio and internal stereo speakers.
Connectivity and Expansion Slots The dv4030us has an integrated 54g wireless LAN that's fully compatible with 802.11b/g wireless networks. It also includes a next-generation ExpressCard 54/34 card slot, which lets you take advantage of thinner, faster, and lighter expansion cards for even more advanced wireless, networking, storage, and security features. You get a decent offering of connectivity options, which does include super-fast USB 2.0 and Firewire:
* 4 USB 2.0 ports for connecting a wide range of peripherals--from digital cameras to MP3 players * 1 FireWire (also known as IEEE 1394 or i.Link) port for connecting digital video camcorders and other peripherals * 1 VGA monitor port * 1 S-Video port for connecting to a TV * 1 PCMCIA (or PC Card) slot (Type I/II, 32-bit) * 1 headphone jack and 1 microphone jack * 1 ExpressCard/54 slot * 1 Expansion Port 2 connector * 1 IR receiver * 6-in-1 Digital Media Reader for Secure Digital cards, MultiMedia cards, Memory Sticks, Memory Stick Pro, SmartMedia, and XD Picture Cards
It also has an integrated 56K modem (V.90) and an RJ-45 LAN network port (for a 10/100 Ethernet connection to networks and DSL/cable modems).

If you're gonna post something on FW, give SOME basic information about the product. As i mentioned earlier, I searched for 5 secs and found what this is as well as the specs. Typically you dont wanna make FWers do that. The number of reds you already have should tell you that you did smething wrong with this post.
S_TFU !!! people dont have time here, 5 sec are not gonna kill ya.

Okay, bad form, but great deal. Gateway and Sony are definitely better deals, but the HP isn't anything laugh at either....
I don't understand it, all of the clearance prices today on laptops are showing regular prices here (Louisville KY Zip Codes). Is this a regional thing?

your stores are probably informed later than others, but they will change the price!

Can anyone give me a link, when I search I find nothing. Normally when the item is OOS I will be able to locate it online, but then it will show OOS when I attempt to pick up instore.

Papkov, I was simply stating standard posting etiquette on FW. And learn to keep your posts civil. If you wanna start a war I suggest North Korea, not FW
And while 5 seconds wont kill me, most people do not want to look at a post subject in the listings and go 'what the hell is this thing???'
To OP, just giving you advice for the future. DO NOT take what people say here personally. Or you'll end up needing anger management classes like Mr.Papkov over here
Just because you placed an order, just because they say the item is in stock in a particular store, just because they have supposedly "reserved it" means big fat nothing. If their sorry excuse of an inventory system could keep track of items, I'd have 3 laptops today. Instead, I have 0 laptops, couple wasted hours in hot car and 3 $30 off coupons which now are marked as unuseable for me.
I had 3 OD (Detroit area) stores on my itinerary, hoping to get the Gateway or Sony deal. The first one I went into was sold out of both of course. The manager asked me if I needed help, I said I wanted to buy a Gateway laptop but didn't see one. He said he's got something better and told me about the DV4040 and $50 for a 2 year warranty w/ a free(AR) Targus bag. It was more than I wanted to spend and I told him I didn't want the warranty. He ended up giving me the warranty for free so I paid $729.63 out the door for a sealed unit. Guess I picked the right store to go into. This is the first time I've any luck with hot OD clearance. The manager was just the nicest guy; I gave him my business card hoping he'd remember me next time!

The moral of the story - don't count your laptops before they hatch.
I really feel bad for ya. I was stuck at work and couldn't go, and I guess theres no point now, but yeah, OD has some awesome laptop deals and it sucks that you couldn't even get 1

The moral of the story - don't count your laptops before they hatch. Same here. I ordered 2 of these laptops online only to be told they don't have any in the store. My Moral of the store - When it comes to an OD laptop deal, don't even bother ordering online. You've just given the OD employees a good deal.
