(2) Is incapable of propelling the device at a speed of more than 20 miles per hour on ground level.

And if you read the description, it said

up to 29mph and 24.8 mile range.

So it is more than 20 miles per hour which make this a moped in California

Which means you need to register with dmv and remember you need Class M2 motorcycle license to operate any motorized bicycle or moped or any bicycle with an attached motor.

Also in Cal, DMV said:

21207.5. Notwithstanding Sections 21207 and 23127 of this code, or any other provision of law, no motorized bicycle may be operated on a bicycle path or trail, bikeway, bicycle lane established pursuant to Section 21207, equestrian trail, or hiking or recreational trail, unless it is within or adjacent to a roadway or unless the local authority or the governing body of a public agency having jurisdiction over such path or trail permits, by ordinance, such operation.

You only get there all funky and wet from sweat if you're out of shape.

BZZZZZT! You ride faster than 28mph and you're going to sweat, no matter what shape you're in. Unless we're talking a very short trip.

Did anyone have the Fusion? I like the Freedom but it's too heavy for me.

Motorcycle Saftey course $350

I took my class at the local high school after hours. It was like $50 and they provided bikes...and at the end we got to take our license test.

take care,

It's only 20 lbs heavier. It's just looks much heavier but it's all plastic.

What charger does the retro come with? I looked at all of them in store and there were 2AMP and 5AMP chargers. If the Freedom come with a 5AMP charger and the Retro comes with a 2AMP charger it might be worth it to get the Freedom since they are all the same price. I'm going to rip all the plastic off anyways and ride it bare.

I looked at all of them, too. I tried to put on the scooter stand but I couldn't do it with the Freedom and having a very hard time with the Fusion too. According to the rep I talked to, all of them use the 5 AMP charger. I did see two different sizes though. I don't know. Will find out when I get the Fusion. I like the Freedom because you can brake using your foot. Seem safer. It looks cool, but too big for me (less than 100 lbs).

i just got a retro. i'm extremely happy with it. for some reason, i didnt get charge for the paper work fee. here is a picture of my scooter: http://www.yourbigfun.net/retro.jpg

i weight 130lbs and only able to sustain 25mph on the scooter. i dont think mine goes up to 30mph. the battery seems to last awhile. i was playing around with the scooter on and off for a couple of hours and log in 6 miles and did not notice the battery signal go down. very happy with the purchase.

thanks op,

vien

$300 for a full size scooter is a really good deal. I bought my stand-up gas scooter a couple years ago for $250.

these jakazzes don't deserve this deal. that's why i had it removed.

I too and interested in this in California. I'll ask a couple of people.
Here is what I have found so far.

1) This item is Special order at most Pepboys.
2) Panterra is Out of Business.
3) The nearest Authorized Repair shop is in Arizona (Baja Motorsports)
4) The Ad says the Fusion model does 42Mph (Which would account for the 30Mph people here are posting).
5) This says Motor Scooter but in California a scooter must be able to be human propelled. I'm not sure if you can push a 200lb scooter with your foot. If not, then it is a Motorcyle in California. That's a big difference since a scooter is a Class C (Normal) and a Motorcycle is a Class M1.
6) In california you HAVE to register it. It has a Vin and that means you need insurance. Insurance for me came to about $150(Liability)+$100(C&C)

So as soon as I find out the crucial scooter/motorcycle I will keep researching, but basically this bike is good for about a year. Then Baja will be out of the parts and all owners will be SoL.

4) It’s really confusing because if you look at the spec sheet or description on pep boys site, then you’ll find all of them have the same speed, battery, motor type, etc…(only FREEDOM model is heavier & Wheelbase of FUSION is bigger than these other two). But that’s it.
May be typo? Guess we got a find down then

6) Of course, it’s better for us if we have insurance for it. But if for someone just gets on the road once in a while for fun, it is a pain in the $$

Cheer

When I mentioned the $30 "dealer prep" fee to my PepBoys sales guy he said that they don't charge it. He said they just set them up for free. So you may be able to get them to waive this.

STREET LEGAL!**
**Not street legal in certain Indiana and New Jersey municipalities.

not that it really matters since panterra is out of business, but the manufacturer warranty was only 30 days. if you don't like it within that time, just return it to pep boys. i don't know pepboys' return policy on scooters is though.

Replacement parts for the retro are supplied or manufactured by Nikota. i just recently heard of this brand, because i noticed my local costco is selling generators by Nikota. nikota.com is down so i can't comment on the company.

at $300 AR, this is hot for a zero emissions, street legal, and low maintenance vehicle.

This is simply not true. Where did you get this information?

To quote the CA vehicle code:
"406. (a) A "motorized bicycle" or "moped" is any two-wheeled or three-wheeled device having fully operative pedals for propulsion by human power, or having no pedals if powered solely by electrical energy, and an automatic transmission and a motor which produces less than 2 gross brake horsepower and is capable of propelling the device at a maximum speed of not more than 30 miles per hour on level ground."

By the definition of the CA vehicle code, all these scooters would be considered electric bicycles AKA mopeds. They are entirely electrically powered and they are slower than 30 MPH.

Here's the link for the CA vehicle code section.

The ad saying the Fusion goes 48MPH is just wrong. Look at the specs from Nikota. All three have exactly the same speed and range.

Went and looked at the 'retro' model today. While fairly cheaply made, looked to be worth the $$$. 2 employees told me not to buy it, said they had gotten many back defective. I decided against it.
