This is the official 2005 Black Friday Thread, which will serve as the central hub for all BF2005 deals. Black Friday 2005 is on Friday, November 25th, 2005
Definition: The day after Thanksgiving in the United States, is frequently referred to as Black Friday.
General Use: One of the major U.S. holiday shopping days. The day many U.S. consumers begin Christmas shopping. The day is heavily promoted by retailers.
Origin: The origin of Black Friday comes from the shift to profitability during the holiday season. Black Friday was when retailers went from being unprofitable, or "in the red," to being profitable, or "in the black", at a time when accounting records were kept by hand and red indicated loss and black profit.
Also Known As: The day after Thanksgiving.
Also, let's keep in mind this year that the BF deals can be updated by users as well by making use of the Quick Summary function. Feel free to share your speculation on deals for this year in the Quick Summary.
Thanks to the following for assisting with maintaining this thread: MrCodeDude, Niktobos
Edit by Moderator: As Black Friday is over, this thread will now be maintained in Deal Discussion. Please feel free to link any Black Friday follow-up discussion threads to this thread.
This is just a confirmation of news that came out weeks ago about the X360 launch. In any case, all you suckers can sit out on the cold. I'm going to be sleeping by 6am on Friday, after I get my X360 at midnight and stay up til 4:30 playing it
thanks op! I can't wait for this years BF now that I bought more camping gear from Target/WalMart this year all on clearance I can use some of it to keep warm for the 7+ hours I'll be waiting in line. Last year I was # 1 in line for BB and scored numerous deals from them. Had plenty of time to hit Target, Sears, & Menards for the other things I wanted.

Did they give you "special" deals because you were first in line, or did you just happen to get good deals? LOL.
I love Black Friday, but last year's was mostly a bust. I got a few things.
Bought a 46" HDTV last year from Circuit City, the Monday before Black Friday. The sale price I got was $149 cheaper then the black friday sale price for the same item.
Waiting to see what they offer this year.

If the Xbox 360 launches on Black Friday, it should add some extra craziness factor.

Last years was good, but that was also my first. I was first inline at Staples and Ace Hardware, this year I'm not sure where to go first but I'll be bringing a chair and blanket to camp out for sure!
Checklist:
Credit Cards Blanket Fold-up Sports Chair Ad Print Outs Music Player Coffee Thermos Snacks Backpack
Wishlist:
FAR 120-160GB HDs FAR 50-100PK DVD HDTV Plasma 40"+ $1K or under 17" LCD under $100 FAR Wireless Router/Network Cards.
This definitely isn't prime location for an "Official Thread" but I figured beter late than on page 8, that's for sure. (Like the rhyme??)
I'd like to pick up an awesome deal on a PSP, but not a big deal. Also, A Sony Cybershot 7.2 mp, a decent in-dash CD player for my GFs car, and maybe all my prayers will be answered and I'll get hooked up with $1.25/gal gas and a house in NJ for under 200k. Is that really too much to ask. (Roxytrend, if you're reading this, I definitely don't want you to get me a PSP, the house on the other hand, be my guest.)
summerbaby said: "Industry Insiders" are speculating that this may not be such a good holiday shopping season because of gas prices and other factors that are going on with the economy. I hope it will be a good one because this will the first black friday that I will be in the stores and I want to get a true representation of what it's really like. It will be crazy whether the deals are good or not by FW standards, because everyone goes out and shops like crazy, and many are too clueless to know whether the deals are good or not.
I remember wearing my FW Away Team 2004 red shirt last year. I was disappointed that I didn't see anybody else wearing one though.

From Wikipedia:
Black Friday (also called Blitz Day), the day after Thanksgiving in the United States, is historically one of the busiest retail shopping days of the year. Many consider it the "official" beginning to the Christmas shopping season. The "black" in the name comes from the standard accounting practice of using red ink to denote negative values (i.e., losses) and black ink to denote positive values (profits). Black Friday is the day when retailers traditionally get back "in the black" after operating "in the red" for the previous months. The term may also be used by retail employees to express their antipathy towards it, as an analogy to Black Thursday as a day of general chaos.
Although Black Friday is typically the busiest shopping day of the year in terms of customer traffic, it is not typically the day with the highest sales volume. That is usually either the last Saturday before Christmas or December 23.
To some social activists, this day was deliberately chosen as Buy Nothing Day to protest the rampant consumerism that they say seems most prevalent on that day. It's also known as Fur-Free Friday, a day when animal activists around the country hold demonstrations.
and it looks like you may be able to get a free t-shirt at some point.
I wouldnt hold my breath on the free tshirts. This is from their website:
How many t-shirts has advertising paid for so far? As of Oct. 16, we have raised enough money for ~10.3 shirts. Keep clicking. The more money we raise, the more shirts we buy, the better your odds are of getting a free shirt! We will be releasing a design soon. Check back often! Thanks, BlackFridayDeals.NET
Don't forget your football helmet for that mad rush on Friday morning when the stores open. You don't want get a concussion and forget why you went there in the first place.
I have to confess I forget why I am waiting in line in the cold after about 2 hours. It starts to seem like nothing is worth that much aggravation. Especially if you are never sure if people will rush the line, the store will run out of stock, or just how many people are saving places for others.
WillysEmptyWallet said: staceyanna said: Does anyone know if there are there any BF ads out for 2005 right NOW?I know of two @ the printers. Some news has been posted at the private sites. IMO in 2 or so weeks news should hit here.
yep, was just about to post the same thing. The same two companies had their orders put in at the printers this early last year. From what little info I have, some of the deals will be decent this year. Can't really say much more than that. Especially since "decent" is such a subjective word. The deals will be good enough for the college kids to camp out in line at some places, but for those of us with financial savvy, the 4 hour wait in line still won't be worth it.
A helpful tip: look for deals at stores that won't have the crowds. this may mean travelling farther, or using your knowledge of which ads come out in which paper, or which stores typically do not have BF sales
I actually enjoy hitting up some of the stores that don't have lines. for instance, an unnamed store last year was handing out $50 gift cards last year to the first 100 people. When I arrived 5 minutes to opening, 25 people were in line. The funny thing is that right next door, there were at least 150 people in line at the "Big Store"

I stood in line at BB last year for a computer deal, was probably about 20th in line. It seems that some people have a hard time understand some simple rules about lines
1) You can't hold a place in line for 20 other people if they've NEVER stood in the line until the BB employees start handing out vouchers for items. 2) You can't walk up ahead of other people and reach through the line trying to grab extra vouchers before you return to your illegally saved place for the one you didn't deserve anyway. 3) Limit 1 doesn't mean bring your 10 children ages 1 - 10 and let them hold 10 extra vouchers for you.
And for the record, this was happening *behind* me in line, so it didn't affect my purchase at all. It did screw several people deeper in line out of their fair chance at product, and even when confronted with witnesses, the ever-helpful BB employees did nothing about it.
Last time I do it.
I hope it POURS down rain this year. Well, maybe only on the dummies

I wish someone would do an analysis of BF2005 deals once posted. Always so many deals and so little time due to huge lines. Ive always had great deals at Staples and fry's. Those are the 2 places I try to hit first. Best Buy is a hopeless case since line is already 200 people at midnight.

Is that mean we can order BF deals directly online from SP, OM, OD, and BB (I mean without return and rebuy)? I don't think BB or CC can.
rsuaver said: Well, Staples was all done before 6am from home. Some did the 2am deal and return/rebuy pm.
Then 7am, om instore deals were all done from the parking lot in my car...

Here's some of the things I want to buy between Black Friday and the Day After Christmas:
1. I want another Plextor DL DVD burner for $50 or less, like the AR deal that was at BB awhile back. Plextors are notoriously overpriced, and someone has got to put one of them on sale or give us some rebate money or something. Yes, I know I can get an NEC, BenQ or other drive cheaper at any time, but I want a Plextor!
2. I want a 500GB IDE drive for $200 or less, or a 400GB IDE drive for $150 or less. I'm sick and tired of dealing with all these puny drive deals. I don't buy anything less than a 400GB drive unless it's FAR.
3. I want some quality blank DVDs to come close to the 100pk for $15 deal that OD had on it's house brand Riteks. Notice I said quality. I don't want any "Back Alley" brand disks manufactured by Yogi Bear. I want some quality TYGs, MXLs, SONYs, or MCCs, and if none of those are available, I'll settle for RITEKs, TTGs, or FUJIFILMs.
4. I want some 1GB PC3200 RAM sticks for less than the $75 that NewEgg/ChiefValue was selling their Rosewill at back before the summer. I don't want or need any 2x512MB deals. I want some 1GB sticks! I like my RAM big!
Too many items from last year with similiar/changed prices make me have my doubts.

FWIW, I'm looking for a big 'ol 26" - 32" CRT HDTV that stores are looking to dump..missed out on the last couple deals posted here. I'm sure they are looking to dump these big, ugly, bulky TV's at a heavy discount........right?...........please?....

A couple of years ago I bought a TV from CC on Thanksgiving night (before 12am) for the BF price. The price was already active online. The store held it for me and I went by in the afternoon and picked mine up. Doesn't hurt to try online the night before.

the problem i have with the ads up right now is that last night around 7-8pmEST bf2005.net had a link called "fake store (1)" then if you clicked it brought you to the Wal-Mart list. it later changed the name to just Wal-Mart. Either the 'fake store' link was a test just to see if things were working, or the ads are fake. either way nothing on there looks worthy of a purchase in my book.

I hope so cause that Wal Mart one is real dull. I was expecting some semi exciting sales this year.
