Alliant Energy here in the midwest offers a $150 rebate for energy star rated horizontal axis washers. An LG WM1814C does show up on the DOE (I think that's where I found the list...I only have the downloaded PDF here) list of energy star washers. There's a 'C' on the end of the model name...but may be the same washer the OP lists. |

BTW.. the "front load" dryers (besides all dryers being front load pretty much) Are just $200 more because they "Match" the front load washer.
So you are paying about 30% more because of the "look"

Forum title edited as requested..
How tall is it to stack them? actually, is the stacking kit to stack one on top of the other? if so, how do you reach the controls of the top one?

any experience with repair service on lg appliances?
i have been told by some stores and also by an independent appliance servicer that it is hard to find service for lg appliances ... lg does not have their own service network set up except in a few places |

I'm confused - where did you buy them from? How did you get a Lowe's rebate, and a HomeDepot card? |

Great deal. If I had not bought my Whirlpool, I would have settled for this one. LG Front loading systems are great.. |

FYI, if you are interested in buying this combo for the energy savings, just buy the washer. There is nothing energy efficient about the dryer. You will spend the same amount of money drying your clothes with a $300 dryer as you do with the LG $650 dryer. |

ryan89 said:The high end LG sets blow the Duets out of the water for a lot less money. Care to share any specific reasons for this statement? I just bought a Whirlpool Duet this past Saturday for $944 (MSRP $1009). Whirlpool has a larger capacity drum (3.8 cu. ft. v. 3.7 for LG). Other than that, they look very similar, in terms of features. |

Is it the same whirlpool as the one they sell at costco...
Actually whirlpool and maytag are almost the same price. Somehow I thought Maytag would be more expensive.

According to Consumer Reports, Maytag has a repair rate almost double the other brands (GE, Whirlpool, Kenmore, Frigidaire). Class action lawsuit on the Maytag Neptunes was filed and Maytag will likely settle. Might want to stay away from Maytag for awhile.

I will definitly second the link provided by lecco, to the laundry forum on ths.gardenweb.com.
We also went with the Bosch pair, although the original one not the new tilted drum design. Ours is about 2.5 years old now and we couldn't be happier.
About detergent, we use "he" detergent from Sears, specially since the big drum is on sale all the time and are happy with it. Costco has also started selling "he" versions of its detergent recently, though we have yet to try it.
While at it, those who don't know, do check your washer manuals, since most front loaders advice against using clorine bleaches (not that you need to bleach with a front loader ).
lecco said:when I was on my quest for FL (front loading) washer/dryer, I did a lot of research but info on washers and dryers, less alone reviews are hard to come by. but I found this website that has a lot of reviews on different dryer/washer, check them out: http://ths.gardenweb.com/forums/laundry/
Personally I went with the Siemens (Bosch) washer/dryer because BB was running a $150 GC promo and I picked up the set as open box and saved me ~$600 plus 2 years 0% financing. check out your local BB for open box items! |

Is Kenmore any good compared to LG? my wife likes the look of Kenmore and the push buttons.
Please advise,
OMG, you bought an extended warranty from Sears??
My fridge had like a $279 extended warranty, I picked up a GE 5-year one for $87...... |

I was waiting for someone to mention that!!!!
ETA: Enterkey, just sign up at a couple of the places on Dealpass, or in this case, three different places, and for the initial 1500 outlay as outlined in the Op's deal, he'd save almost 300 more in addition to his awesome deal. I see, I guss that would work.
I guess we just have to deal with 60 $25 GC cards....!! |
