According to Consumer Reports, Maytag has a repair rate almost double the other brands (GE, Whirlpool, Kenmore, Frigidaire). Class action lawsuit on the Maytag Neptunes was filed and Maytag will likely settle. Might want to stay away from Maytag for awhile.

OK thanks I guess Maytag is out. But the only LG I know is the cellphone. So how is LG compare to other brand like Whirlpool and Kenmore. I can't find any information about using this special soap for front loader.

I'd recommend skipping the delivery thing if they require that you give up the old system (but keep it if they will merely deliver the units). In the least try to sell your old combo, even if it is just for some toekn amount to a college student.

The Lowes coupon can be obtained from the USPS as part of their moving packet. I also am not currently sure if dealpass hasa limit on the # of GC you can get.

I can't find any information about using this special soap for front loader. Of the 14 front-loaders rated by Consumer Reports, the 3 LG units rated #4, #8 and #9 (somewhat middle of the road). Consumer Reports doesn't rank them for reliability and repair track record, "We don't have enough survey data to establish a track record for reliability."

Also, CR states, "Low-sudsing detergent is recommended for the best results and best washer performance."

So, yes, you must use HE detergent for front-loaders. Can find it at Sears -- or just about anywhere these days.

OK thanks. I just remember that I have free CR from Yahoo. Whirlpool 9150 is right below the LG.

I read that it is better to have a heater. Is that true?

I just bought pair of Black LG front loaders for $2300 with tax and delivery + 5 year warranty from bestbuy.
I had to pay $200 extra for Black instead of white

Since Maytag has been taken over by the Chinese you can not rely on all those years of Maytag commercials where they were toted as reliable. It’s a whole new ballgame.

I actually got a better deal. Fry's in renton has the same dryer for $549. I was able to get a price match in Home Depot , then 10% lowes coupon and above that gift card.

so it was a really good deal. For washer, we went with the $999 one because of higher capacity and other features.

Great post OP !! I agree with babiesrus in her point about front loaders.

I'm a straight guy (save your wise cracks) and I have the Neptune Front loader washer /dryer as well. I got mine back the first year they were out and love them. They are very GENTLE on the clothes, so they don't wear out as quickly. The washer uses way less detergent (60% less) and water (saves $$), and they are very quiet in operation.

If your thinking about a front loader- give these a try. Great Price!
These LG's look like great machines as well. Good deal on these 2 units!

babiesrus said:We've had a Maytag Neptune front loader for about seven years and I LOVE it. We have six children so you can imagine how much laundry I do on a daily basis. I have never used any special detergent in this washer. You just don't need as much detergent so that's a money-saver, too. It will wash a MUCH larger load of laundry and our king size comforter comes out great. Less energy is used and much less water is used for a load. The clothes, in turn, take less time to dry because the washer spins those clothes as such a high rpm that there's not that much drying time required. Less lint in the dryer lint trap, too, so the washer isn't beating the clothes to death. They last longer because of that. Can you tell I love my front loader?!

One other thing about detergents. The HE brands are just diluted mixes of regular detergents, but they charge the same price as regular detergents. So- you get about 60% less detergent, plus some filler -for the same price.

I just buy regular liquid detergent and use about 35% of the normal top loader amount. The front loaders use less water, so you need to cut back on the amount of detergent you put in. Else you over suds your wash and, on the Neptunes, they'll sense the oversudsing and shut the wash down.

So, I'm sure others have an opinion of the HE detergents, but I just think they are a rip-off.

Happy Washing!

Odd question here but can anyone tell me if the washer dryer open to the left or to the right??

Meaning when standing in front of the unit does the door swing out to your right or left.

Thanks

Greg

Here. I took advantage of this about 5 months ago when I bought all new appliances.

front loaders do NOT clean better than top loaders. they do not have an agitator that's why they rely on special detergents to do the cleaning. agitating the clothes gets them much cleaner than relying on special solvents/chemicals to do the job. front loads use roughly the same electricity as a top load. the savings comes with drying. the front load spins at such a high rpm that it practically dries the clothes before you throw them in the dryer. hence the savings. i considered getting front loading machines but theres way too many downfalls to them. the repair costs are VERY high and VERY frequent when compared with top loaders. that coupled with the added cost of special detergent and the initial cost of the units does not make it worthwhile...unless you like eye candy.
