Does that mean all FYE B&M locations across the nation?

Just a note, most of the developers don't have PS3 kits yet. If nobody is working on the games right now, there won't be any ready a year from now (typically launch titles take over a year of development time). The 360 was similar to program on to the XBox as well and the leap between the two systems was much smaller than PS2 to PS3 is going to be. Throw in that Sony has been having issues with the hardware and do the math. It's probably coming out Christmas 2007, not 2006. Just a heads up.

my money is on xmas 2006. they will rush it because they dont want xbox360 to win over too much of the market.

Seriously, I work in the industry. We don't have kits and we're a fairly big player. Games are major undertakings now. It's not like the Genesis days when you could spit one out in six months for $200,000. Everything has the budget of a motion picture now. The only reason Sony hyped the PS3 at E3 this year was they wanted to scare off people from buying 360's with the spectre of a bigger and better machine coming out in a year. That's exactly how they beat the Dreamcast (a system I would argue was a bigger jump from PS1 that the 360 is from the XBox). The difference is that year they had the hardware working and games well into development at the time of Sega's launch. This time around, they're not in that position. Especially at this level, if you rush a title, it's not going to take advantage of the hardware and is going to look inferior to the second generation 360 titles. Which would be doomsday. You can lose the war with a crummy launch (see Saturn).

This is a good read from IGN

For those that are "in the industry" or are claiming that most developers don't have dev kits.

From the looks of things the April 2006 release date may still happen, just not here in the states. I am pretty sure that at least all the major Japanese developers have dev kits. It has always seemd that Sony favors its Japanese developers. Early Q4 of 2006 for the US looks posible.

Also Sony did not unveil the PS3 at E3 in fear of XBOX 360 sales. Sony followed their standard PR schedule. It was the 360 that was pushed into E3 and into a somewhat premature 2005 release to try to get a handle on the market before the PS3.

As for the Dreamcast being a bigger leap from the PS1 then the 360 is to the Gen 1 XBOX.......yikes im not even going to touch that statement, due to a quick release I don't think the developers have even scratched ther surface as to what the 360 can do. Hardware wise both the XBOX 360 and the PS3 are huge jumps over their previous generation counterparts.

And as far as Sony haveing enough units to meet demand.... I doubt it. With Sony only pushing for a 3000 a month production goal you will see even less in circulation then with the XBOX 360 launch. That could mean another mad rush durring launch day as well as the eBay madness that the 360 caused.

I would suggest pre order on day one. Don't wait.

you can bet most japanese developers (read: the ones Sony cares about) have dev kits.

Where did you hear 3000 a month? If they do that, they will only have a handful at launch and it would be a disaster. Surely 30,000 a month. I may get one for the blu-ray if it is cheaper than a stand alone player. But they better hope there is quite a bit of software for that part of it at launch or they may have trouble with that selling point. Not that they would have trouble selling them. Just selling them at a very high premium to your average user who doesn't care that much about hi-def dvd at that time.

Did you notice the date on the IGN story? JULY. When Sony was in full on "we're coming" mode to counter 360. If I remember right, their marketing was hyping that it would practically program itself and Finding Nemo would just appear on your PS3 as a game (a source of great amusement at work, we all immediately went home that day after reading that, a job well done). You know, fine. Don't believe me. I was being quiet about who I work for because while I thought it was fairly commonly known the PS3 is having problems, I don't want any theoretic non disclousure issues because I'm sure Sony would rather people don't buy 360 in hopes that PS3 comes out next year. I think the most likely scenerio is it launches in Japan in early 2007 so they can geek out over the Blu-Ray and buy it as just a player even though there'll be like three games ported from the PS2 with Hi-Res models(sort of like how the Matrix DVD was the top PS2 "game" in Japan). Then have a nice fat launch lineup for Christmas 2007 in the US. You have to remember that PS2 still has a huge installed base and Microsoft screwed up by making too many Japanese units (which are sitting around like turds in Japan, not exactly putting pressure on those theoretic only developers that Sony cares about). Sony could continue easily concentrate on PSP for 2006 and not lose any market awareness. I'll just end with, no Madden, no US Christmas launch.

If you thought the Xbox 360 bundles were bad, I am guessing that there will probably not be any bundle under 1,000 for the PS3.

Some guy just purchased findps3.com Rumor has it, it will be the source to find and locate ps3 availabilty and news.

it was quite an eye opener for the industry to see that bundles are the way to go and most likely we'll have to deal with a bunch of bundles for the ps3. i'm going to hope we see some units without them.

I just pre-ordered my PS3 today in the mall at a Saturday Matinee store (smaller branch of FYE) for $53 down payment...the clerk told me they still have no idea how much it's actually going to cost but my deposit ensures me of getting one...

Let the flames begin.

na you just mistaked the sup for "inf"

I work "in the industry" as well, and I can guarantee you as of over a year ago, companies such as ubisoft and EA already had games in development for PS3, which I witnessed myself and met with the programmers.

I'll represent those "not in the industry" and say..... we don't give a flying f when the ps3 comes out. We simply want to know who has this for preorder with a down payment, cause I'll be glad to put down $50.00 to make a grand. I got my xbox360 3 days ago, and I have to explain to my wife why I can't sell this....... I don't want this to happen again

we would like to know where you preordered your ps3. so we can beat the rush and ces when all the other stores start to preorder.
also was this a unoffical preorder that some are posting?
(example - wish or waiting list)

Sorry guys, I was away. I preordered from Saturday Matinee in Temecula, CA. They are a Fye's company. Its official, because it scans out, and I got a receipt, which she told me is gold, and don;t ever lose it or leave it in my wallet.

HOPE THIS HELPS

Is SM in the promenade mall off Winchester on the 15?

Sure, they have them "in development". We have our games "in development" using the specs Sony has given us and obviously a lot of the 360 code can be ported over like PS2 to original XBox. The problem is it's almost 2006, the hardware isn't close to being finalized and the dev kits aren't readily available. If you want to release next Christmas, both of those factors need to be in effect. With 360, Microsoft was pretty late finalizing the hardware, but we were able to still work with it because the hardware architecture was still pretty similar to original XBox. You can't assume that with PS2 to PS3 because there's at least a five year gap rather than the three the two Microsoft consoles had. Without the hardware finalized at this point, you could expect a lot of ported 360 games with a frantic attempt to improve the player models like happened with a lot of the PS2 games ported to the original Xbox. Which would be death at launch if the price point is substantially higher to the 360 due to the Blu Ray.
