Hi, I'm totally new at the idea of preordering things. Anyhow, I was wondering if you can help me out with this. In general, if I want to buy PS3 at the 1st launch without waiting in line. I have to preorder ahead right? However, I presume that there probably will be the other zillion of people that would preorder also. What would be the best way to preorder and make sure the preorder goes through? Will anyone help me please?

Usually preorders on things like the PS3 will only be done at specailty retailers (EB games and such) until you get to within a month or two, then you will see the bigger stores get in on it.

Expect to have to leave a deposit . . . and watch for deals . . . sometimes they'll give you something like a coupon for $10 off your next game or a free preview DVD when you put $20 down on the system.

Lastly, expect to have to preorder a bundle of some sort . . . meaning console, extra controller, a game or two, and perhaps some other accessory . . . back with the PS2 launch, I saw things like memory cards, 2nd controllers, vertical stands and games as required items in bundles to get your hands on the console. The bundles force you to pad the order with higher margin items so the seller can capitalize on the initial launch hoopla.

i hope it pre-releases before my Amazon GC runs out

Keep in mind EB Games and Game Stop were the first to take preorders for the xbox 360. However they did not get enough systems in the fill many of these perorders. Some people had put money down 5-6 months in advance and were called the night before the xbox 360 release and told there order was not avilable and may not even arrive before Christmas. Make sure you have faith in the company you order from.

also, for the ps2 launch stores were continually receiving shipments into december. they just trickled in small amount, local best buys would get 3-4 every other week or so. with xbox360 it was just one quick rush then thats all. hopefully ps3 will be the same as ps2 as i was able to get pre-order and picked two up in store just by walking in. don't get me wrong, it was still a small challenge with myself and a friend checking best buys daily when shipments arrived. the idea is that the chance to buy one was still there where as with the xbox360 it is not.

my recommendation is to pre-order from EBgames/GameStop the moment it becomes available regardless of a bundle deal or not. then when the 'system only' pre-orders are available order one of those and cancel your bundle deal, unless you feel the need to have extra controllers and games you probably don't want along with a remote control and whatever other accessories they feel the need to put in there to make it cost you $600-1000.

i'm really hoping that sony will get the led out with their launch, but of course the blu-ray side of things may slow it all down - who knows, maybe they are manufacturing final product as i type this.

thanks for the helpful info.
