Well - I went and bought a XM Unit today - I got the AudioVox Xpress.

I highly recommend it to anyone interested in a quality receiver - My nephew bought the XM Roady XT several months ago - (Using the Satellite TV Coupon Code) - It was Free w Free Activation and only had to pay one month of service - Well that deal is no longer available on the list of radios you can buy with that code. The Roady XT is now listed at $39.00 and 10.50 Shipping and One month of service required to pay up front. So the total now is about $55.00 and add 2 more months on w/ Tax it is $77.00 and you must have the service for 6 months.

So, I did some research - I got mine at CircuitCity and price matched to WalMart who this week has it for $64.97. And I used the OEM001NNA code for Infinity cars to get Free Activation and 3 months of service. So my total cost with Tax was $67.44 Free Activation and 3 Months Free. So I saved about $10 on the unit and service.

Now about the radio - Much nicer then the Roady XT - It came with the Car Kit - Giving me the Docking Station, DC adapter, Antenna, and Extra DC coupler that can be put into the car. Nice thing is I also have an Iriver MP3 Player and I can plug it into the side of the Unit and it will broadcast it as well. And the sound quality is amazing. Wish I would have bought this earlier. But then I would probably bought the Roady XT instead of this Unit. One last thing - I had both units setup in the car and the Audiovox had a better reception of the Terrestrial and Sat Signal. With my nephews we lost signal in 2 of the three tunnels and one was spotty. But the Audiovox didn't quit the whole way thru all three. and I am using it in my house as well. I bought a 12 Volt Adapter for home and using the Audio Out to my Stereo. Now I need to purchase another Antenna.

Today is May 8, 2006 - I just called XM radio and used the OEM001NNA code over the phone to get 3 months of free service and free activiation. No credit card needed at all. Just gave them my address, and gave them the code from my factory installed xm radio (honda element) and I was good to go. They did not have any record of me in their computer whatsoever, despite me getting 3 free months when I first bought the car.

The customer service agent spoke broken english, so it did test my patience, but I took deep breathes and got through it fine. When the CS agent answered the phone, I simply stated that I wanted to take advantage of one of their promotional offers that gave 3 months free with free activiation. He told me the dealership should have given me the "code" and thats when I threw the "OEM..." on the table.

easy easy.

My Journey Into XM...

I found a college sports promo with XM that would allow me to get a TAO, DELPHI, or AIRWARE for $99.00 with 1 month of service. Then you would be billed monthly (6 months no termination fee). Of course I sat on the deal until it was gone.

For the heck of it, I tried the direct tv link that had stopped working. This time it resolved to a XM deal with the $49.00 Airware & $99.00 TAO/DELPHI. This was on April 14th, 2006.
This also had the 1 month right off the bat payment. I signed up for the TAO, but thought maybe I should go with the cheaper Airware. Called up CS to see about changing the unit before it shipped. That is a big no no no on these promotions (called 3 times). Last CS chatted a bit, talking about the portables. I was already locked in with the TAO, but he said out of the 3, he felt it was the best. It's what he used and had the best antenna reception with the Airware being the worst. This is what he said, it is not my opinion.

On to the $77.00 deal. I called up after the receiving the unit, played it like I had no clue. She gave me the address for the free activiation and some other link. THEN I said to her that I had previously called XM asking questions about the TAO/DELPHI/AIRWARE. (one more) THEN I said to the current rep that CS told me to call in after I received the unit and have them sign me up for $77.00 year deal. She said that she never saw a $77.00 promo applied to the web promo I used, but she was not going to call me a liar, that I must have had that conversation, and that she would sign me up with that promo.

I previously had Sirius for a year. Honestly, the channel & song selection is much better over at Sirius. I am not disappointed though. The TAO is awesome. Home, car, walking, I always have satellite. The baseball package is why I switched. I can't stand O & A, their voices are so annoying & they are not funny. Howard & Bubba are insanely funny & on top of todays issues. I enjoyed my hour drive to work.

Right now, the best online deal I see is at...

http://partners.xmradio.com
ACCESS KEY = STARBUXM5

They have the DELPHI/AIRWARE for $99.00 + 3 months (6months no term fees).
Or the TAO with the Sports Pack for $49.00 + 3 months (no home/car kits).

Thanks for listening...and good luck.

Just tried to use the XMFREEWEB promo code online and received an error message stating this promo had expired. Anyone else get this?

I don't think anyone has, as that code is cold compared to the others.

OEM code worked just fine. Called 800-321-7117 and told the CSR I wanted to "activate service using a promo code I had been given for 3 free months with free activation." CSR asked for promo code and car model and then set everything up.

I just called 800-998-7900 and successfully used the ZWINBACK code for 1 year @ $77 to activate my XM ready Pioneer receiver.

On June 11th. used the ZWINBACK code to obtain 1 year at $77, no activation fee. Thank you, thank you, Fatwallet.

It did take a referral to a manager, and a bit of haggling, but 20 minutes of my time for $70 savings works for me.

Today I called 800-998-7900 to cancel because I can't afford the service anymore. I have an XM Roady plugged into my home amp, plus a car kit.

The CSR offered me 3 months free, then one year at half price ($77) to stay on. He said he'd refund my $154 credit-card billing from last month, too.

WOW. I can afford that!

Looks to me like he was on an annual billing plan, not monthly.

I also just renewed my XM service for $77 a month. When I called, the CSR told me that was a special promo for new customers only. I then told her that I would not be interested in signing up at regular price because I couldn't afford it, and she transferred me immediately to the promo department. A few quick questions and I got the deal.

If I try the 3 months free, am I no longer eligible for the October rebate on buying a receiver?

Follow up:

My Visa card had not shown the refund or the new charge for more than a month, so I called XM again.

Apparently my credit had gone to my "XM account," not to my Visa.

I did not know I had an "XM account." Sounds like a clever way to hold onto my money.

I insisted the refund be processed to Visa. The CSR promised it would be so.
