I am wondering if this has happened to anyone else and what to do about it.
I used my long distance credits at to call a friend in the UK. Well, the 45 minute 'free' call that I placed thru the 800 number IS SHOWING UP ON MY AT&T LONG DISTANCE BILL!
I now have an $88.00 phone bill from AT&T for this "free" call!
How in God's name could this happen???
The very scary part is that I've used Phonehog to place calls overseas twice since the date on the phonebill and nothing is showing up on the site showing that I've used their service when I log in -- ie, it does not look like I've used any credits there at all!
I am petrified to see next month's AT&T bill and not sure how to proceed. The folks at AT&T offered to reduce the bill to $52.00 -- but I am totally positive I made the calls thru Phonehog!
I've used Phonehog before for overseas calls with no problems but the last time was maybe a year ago. I checked the site and they are still doing overseas calls with no change in policy.
I sent an email to CS at phonehog but have yet to hear from them.
Anyone have a phone number for them??
I'm so mad I could spit! <img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-mad.gif" border=0><img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-shocked.gif" border=0>

Chill and use Google 1st and last.

I don't see much of any problem with them on a Google search. But in this page, it does list the President's email address:

Also, you might misunderstood the terms and condition of this "phonehog" thing. Read it again.

I had never heard of phonehog so I took a quick look. The only thing I noticed that might apply to your problem (though I really didn't search thoroughly) is this:

"Additional Minutes shall also be decremented from Memberís account for calls terminating internationally (outside of the United States, Puerto Rico or the U.S. Virgin Islands) and for calls originating from Canada." (emphasis added)

Is it possible that the number of "additional" minutes they take for overseas calls has increased since that last time you used phonehog, i.e., you're getting the credit but going over your minutes?

I use it many times . No problems at all. Did you enter the pin and everything right? Does your AT&T service provider block long distance carriers? I believe that is the problem. Phone hog phone quality never disappointed me and I use it for my long distance when there is a phone near by and save my cell phone minutes.

Thanks so much fellow FWers for all the info, I will contact "phil" today.
Will keep you posted as none of the possible reasons mentioned applies here.
