Yep the P4 runs HOT!!!
The p4 is on the way out, even intel has said netburst(p4) is dead/dieing.
AMD is the way to go right now. |

Yeah, me too. I'm glad I saw this, because I believe Monarchcomputer was going to ship tomorrow. I just hope Dell doesn't drag their heels on shipping this.
Nice find Op!! |

Thanks. I have ordered some stuff from Dell that was suppose to ship in 1-2 weeks but I got it well before that. I am not sure what will happen this time.

ask a stupid question: amd64 requires whole different software than 32-bit cpu, is it? |

it will run on both 32 bit and 64 bit software (if you install win xp 64 or compatible 64bit os). If you install win xp64 you will need to find 64 bit drivers for your components. For software, the software has to be specifically written to take advantage of the 64 bit processing. |

GeorgyMcFly said:It's been awhile since I've been researching CPUs. Do the AMD x2s run much cooler than the single core or Intel equivalents? TIA. The power ratings for current Athlon 64/X2 and Pentium 4/D CPUs (excluding EE/FX):
Pentium 4 (up to 3.4GHz) 84W Pentium 4 3.6/3.8GHz 115W Pentium D 800 series 95W (2.8GHz), 130W (3/3.2GHz) Pentium D 900 series 95W (2.8GHz/3GHz), 130W (3.2/3.4GHz) source: http://processorfinder.intel.com
Athlon 64 130nm (up to 4000+) 89W Athlon 64 90nm (up to 4000+) 67W Athlon 64 X2 3800+/4200+ 89W (4400+ is 89W or 110W depending on the stepping) Athlon 64 X2 4600+/4800+ 110W source: http://amd.com/us-en/assets/content_type/white_papers_and_tech_docs/30430.pdf (incomplete) and several reviews using AMD marketing materials
Intel doesn't have many speed grades equal to the higher rated Athlon 64/X2 CPUs. In general, AMD Athlon 64/X2 CPUs run cooler than similar performing Pentium 4/D CPUs. That will change later this year when desktop Core Duo/Solo (Merom/Conroe) CPUs come out in 6-7 months. |

This is a decent deal.. Since I live the California.. the SB tax hurts.. AMD 3700+ and 7800 GT = 600-25% ~= 450 + tax = 487.13
I brought this yesterday.. AMD 3700+ and 7800 GT = 515 shipped.. getting it tomorrow =)
You would save 30 dollars.. but you might have to wait a month just because backorder.. But then again.. you can always complain and get other coupons |
