Johneverd said:Received our Athlon 64 X2 3800+ processor today (shipped from Fontana, CA). The chip specs are as follows:
ADA3800DAA5BV LDBHE 0601XPBW 287*******554
The chip overclocked up to 2.86GHz, but was not able to run Prime95 without crashing. Lowered it to 2.8GHz and it appears to be very stable. The vcore voltage is at 1.5v (actually shows as 1.45v in monitoring software). The temps topped out at 51c (with 79f ambient room temperature) with both cores at 100%.
A 40% overclock is very good IMHO.
Dual instances of Prime95, and for how long?
It'd be interesting to know how high you can get your chip to clock on stock voltage. Mine (same stepping as you) will do 270x10 on stock volts, but the volts increase rapidly up to 2900mhz, where it's diet seems more like 1.5v. Those extra volts aren't worth a measly 200mhz to me though. Would have been nice it the CPU scaled better and I could do, say, 310-320x10 on 1.5v |

BTW, my Fatwallet account shows $11.27 FatCash from Dell.
Thanks!
I am contemplating an Ultra-D, since I won't be using SLI. Just rec'd an Artic Cooling Freezer Pro 64 today...SVC had em on sale for $23.99...includes fan.
Let me ask your thoughts about the RAM. Last time I ck'd, all 2x512 TCCD was running @ $160. Several companies offer 2x1024 of UCCC for the same price. I don't want to OC real aggressive... 2.4 to 2.6 would be fine. What do you think @ the better RAM option??? |

how in the hell I ended up with a CCBWE 0532 MPMW??? is it a returned item or Dell started to buy from retailers?
Currently, I am still running my opty 146, will give a shot later tonight...

I will run it overnight either tonight or tomorrow.
For those interested in Dual instances of Prime95 for their new dual-core chips, below are good intructions on how to set it up: LINK to Prime95 Instructions
EDIT: 270x10 on stock volts is very nice. I might go for the same thing (if it will let me) for day to day use, after I am done playing with it. |

I think there is indeed a dual core driver from AMD Link

When you overclock, just change the 270 and multiply 10 in bios, that's it, right? Nothing else to do? Thanks. |

enzyme said:When you overclock, just change the 270 and multiply 10 in bios, that's it, right? Nothing else to do? Thanks. It can be dangerous to your new processor to jump right in at 270MHz, as too much heat can burn it up. It’s good to slowly work your way up to that, checking the chip’s core temperature at 100% usage as you go. A good quality heat sink should be considered. It is also very important to have good case ventilation, as well as a power supply that is up to the task.
If you plan to use the stock heat sink then it might be prudent to consider a lower overclock, like 240MHz. 240Mhz is a nice even number, where everything is in spec except the processor.
When overclocking on my DFI board, the board will not adjust the memory multiplier correctly when it is set to AUTO. It needs to be set manually. As an example, when a board is at 240Mhz the memory multiplier needs to be set at 5:6 to achieve a 200MHz (PC3200) memory bus (200:240 = 5:6). ------------------------
As far as Dual-Core drivers go, THIS Website seems to have some good information. |

Not true.
Each CPU has a threshold temperature. Only if you cross that temperature, it is dangerous to your CPU. anything lower and you are perfectly fine (no need to worry).
whether he slowly clocks upto 270fsb or directly goes to 270fsb, it wont matter as the temperature at 270fsb with the same heatsink will be roughly the same. |

Hello, New to the forums here.
I am looking to purchase a new motherboard and cpu: My attention is towards Asus A8N-SLI Premium and X2 3800. Is there any good coupon codes or deals that i should be aware of?
Thanks

I assume there are some overclockers here. Could anyone recommend some memory to use with the x2 3800 and asus a8n-e? I'm planning on overclocking the cpu to 2.5ghz with the stock cooler and want to pay as little as possible for the memory without sacrificing performance. I saw that the kingston hyper-x will get 500MHz (pc4000) 3-4-4-8-1 (CAS Latency 3) performance for 78.xx after mail in rebate. Any recommendations and advice would be helpful. The research I found said that the stock cooler should be fine for this overclock, let me know if you agree.

nForce 4 boards have options to run the RAM on a divider without a performance loss, like in the nForce2 days. Running quality low latency RAM (2-3-3-x or even better 2-2-2-x) with a divider will yield the same results as running high(er) speed RAM with 'looser' timings, as Athlon systems love low latencies.
The stock cooler will be fine if you don't need to increase voltages. If you do need 1.45+ volts, then consider even a modest $30 heatsink and quiet fan. |

As far as overclocking goes. I bought the 3800+ x2 , I currently have it at 2.7 , running on a EVGA sli board, sith Geil 3200 DDR. I have a the Big Typhoon heatsink and it tops at 40 c |

For anybody that might be interested.
FRY's is going to have the AMD X2 3800 FOR $279.00 with a free ECS Mo/Bo, this weekend.
Check out the add on the "hot deals" section.

My 3200+ finally shipped, last estimate was 3/31/06 after numerous delays.
Looking forward to the AM2 deals now. |
