Yes I do. i was planning on buying a Opteron 165 or 3800 but they are raising the prices on the Opterons now and lowering them on the 3800. This price widens that gap so much I dont think its worth getting the OPteron now since theres a good chance the 3800 can be OCed to 2.5 .

What do you guys think of the x2 3800+ vs the opteron. I ordered the OEM opteron 165 for 265 (+13 for a fan) = 278 a few days ago from Monarch Computer w/a combo that I'll have to sell off. How much better is the Opteron compared to the OEM considering the price difference? (Sorry if i'm rehashing old discussions but all I found was about opteron being recommended because it was cheaper which isnt the case)

Yeah I covered it in the computer forum. The opteron has a 1 meg cache while the 3800 has a 512 cache. The 3800 comes stock 2 gig while the opteron 1.8 --- they claim the 3800 can hit 2.5 easily and the Opteron is probably a better OCer than the 3800 but 2.5 is fast enough for me if its stable with stock cooling at that speed Ill be super happy.
Thats a killer price. Now that they are raising the price of the Opterons its a great price. Id keep it. Id actually like to get the Opteron but for 240 thats an insane price for a 3800. If I had to buy one now I think its 325 or more so 325 vs 240 is a HUGE price difference. If the difference were 300 vs 325 or so I was thinking of sticking to the opteron. A little while ago opterons were sometimes cheaper than the 3800s plus they had 1 meg cache thats what made them so attractive. Even when they became the same or close to the same price they were attractive. But if theres a close to 80-100 buck difference then forget it though the 1 meg cache X2s do go for a lot more.

I just bought a AMD64 for $200...I would have sprung extra cash for a dual core!

Awesome. Thanks OP. FYI, 1MB versus 512KB cache...zero difference as far as any of you are concerned and the XP 64s are overclocking as well as the Optys (there are PLENTY of Optys that are terrible overclockers.) For $240 this is a no brainer.

I just signed up. Do you think that I can expect a coupon emailed before this expires? It looks like it's time to build a new system with this discount!

It's been awhile since I've been researching CPUs. Do the AMD x2s run much cooler than the single core or Intel equivalents? TIA.

where do you guys go to received coupons from Dell and Dell sb? i have some emails from Dell, but not sure if i am on the right mailing list. i surely didn't get an email today from them with a 25% off coupon =( thanks in advance
Coupon begging will get the thread locked and make this topic dive faster than Davey Jones.
On that note, my Opty 165 does 2.7 on both cores 24/7 stable, running Prime 95, its a killer CPU IMO. I think 2.8 would be easily possible too (this is on air, 1.35v with a Thermalright SI-120), but it idles @ 27 and full load is only around 30-31, so I am not moving 1 inch, its so darn fast I dunno what to do with all the speed

Yeah I think it is SB I kept trying to apply the coupon under HOME and it wouldnt take so I ended up calling Dell and talking to a totally CLUELESS rep . I was getting really annoyed. Then I waited some more after calling some other rep and they told me it was a SB coupon and it worked. DUHHHHHHH.
Do they charge your card right away if its sent a week or more from now? Just curious.
Bought the Athlon X2 3800+ and the XFX 7800 GT together for $535 delivered. Cheapest prices that I've seen for these two items so far.
Thank you OP!

That's an awesome combo. I have BFG 7800 GT and Pentium Dual core 3 ghz and the graphics are just amazing. I played King Kong on it and it was mind blowing. Your combo will be even better.
Note: 25% coupon will work on more than 1 item so you can get 25% off 2 items
