The Athlon X2 3800+ appears to be able to hit 2.4 to 2.7GHz, so with a little luck your 2.0Ghz 3800+ will equate to a 2.64GHz 5000+ REVIEW 1 and REVIEW 2
^^^Correct, except the L2 is still 512Kx2 instead of 1MBx2. Also, 2.6Ghz would equate to FX-60 speeds
COUPONS ARE STILL VALID AS OF 1.10 PM (Jan 25th, 2006)

Yes I do. i was planning on buying a Opteron 165 or 3800 but they are raising the prices on the Opterons now and lowering them on the 3800. This price widens that gap so much I dont think its worth getting the OPteron now since theres a good chance the 3800 can be OCed to 2.5 .

some applications may have problem running dual core. Here is update from amd http://www.amd.com/us-en/Processors/TechnicalResources/0,,30_182_871_13118,00.html
What do you guys think of the x2 3800+ vs the opteron. I ordered the OEM opteron 165 for 265 (+13 for a fan) = 278 a few days ago from Monarch Computer w/a combo that I'll have to sell off. How much better is the Opteron compared to the OEM considering the price difference? (Sorry if i'm rehashing old discussions but all I found was about opteron being recommended because it was cheaper which isnt the case)
