Based on jinco11's post, I called yet again for a PM. They shot down saying after rebate their price is lower.
Peachtree complete accounting 274 - 200 rebate = 74.
Bestbuy $199. Staples AR price is lower than bestbuy.
In fact, I used my reward $30 for this order. I would be refusing this order. Lost $30. |

Thank you for holding. The item on this order has a rebate associated with it, which makes the item free. As per our price match policy, we must take this rebate into account when considering a price match. This rebate makes our price less than their price for the item, and therefore we cannot perform the price match. I apologize for any inconvenience.
Oye bad bad news. |

Just now I got pricematch on Taxcut Deluxe+State (29.99 with 15.00 ER) with WalMart 19.96 through online chat and got back around 10$. The CSR didn't deduct 15.00 ER while calculating the PM. I think we can make money some more time until all CSRs understands the new policy.

They will learn the new policy in no time.

the real question is: Will this affect Easy Rebates submitted after today in which a PM was made last week. Luckily I submitted a TON of SERs couple days ago. |

While this is an unfortunate situation I definitely agree that greedy people killed this (especially the people here who wpuld brag about getting it on multiple accounts). |

I have been informed by a corporate source/relative that this modification may only be temporary. Staples is very aware of the amount of business it may lose from such a policy modification. Not just the ebayers out there but the non e-business business owners as well. Although the impact of PM’s was noticeable, an early poster is correct in that it was not overshadowing other sales sources. Not by a long shot. A limitation on PM’s per product, via the old policy might be the eventual final policy. |

Csr said they need to look at rebates and entered item number for SER. No go. I think SER makes it easy for them to check. |

well I can say that all except about $550 of the 2k plus I have spent since 11/05 has been seriously pricematched. The only purchases that weren't were the $550 sp-4805 projector and digital image ste for $25. At least this saves me the trouble of opening a new account since I got blacklisted last week. IMHO the policy will not change, I am sure tons of thought and conversation went into this before the change. remember the syntax 27" fiasco from bf 04 pmng to frys...they lost tons on that |

"Greedy" as used here is not jumping on a hot deal. "Greedy" is buying 5 printers so you can eBay all five of them along with the 243 other 1350Ws up for sale right now, netting you a nice $200 profit for the price of killing thousands of dollars in future deals. |

Yes it was the Konica 1350w. They blacklisted me for it and I had only bought one and used no coupons. They did however review my account because of it and found a "pattern of abuse" as they called it. Namely, I had created 3 different accounts over the years to get more coupons. |

I would have thought that the Minolta 2400w would have helped too. I only got one 1350 but I got two 2400's.
I wonder if they will follow BB's lead (for rewardzone) and base the eligble Staples Reward purchase amounts on the AFTER rebate prices. |

what's the difference to Staples?! Selling five to one customer vs. selling five to five customer? as long as every single one of them successfully pmed, Staples at the same loss... I have long suspected this got to change. Sadly instead of getting rid of rebate and competite on a discount base, they choose to stick with rebate while tighten pm. Had they choose the other way, it would really benefit retail customer while keeping eBay away; but no, Staples needs free money from rebate. I donot know if any regulation requires them to disclose the amount of rebate, payoff of rebate, statistics on how long it takes to fullfil etc, some AGs should take a look at this...

Yawn. This is so NOT news. All Staples is doing is putting their PM policy in line with other stores. More importantly, PMs with active rebates were and still are YMMV at the B&M level, as they are everywhere. This change really only affects online purchases. Staples will figure out for themselves whether it's worth it in the long run.
Frankly, based on the fact that eBay still exists, I don't see Staples going anywhere soon. There are still enough idiots out there who don't know anything about market prices to keep them afloat for a long time.
The main thing that might hurt Staples online business is their cheesy way of tacking on overnight shipping to any PM. Now THAT, combined with the new policy, is what may hurt them. They may have to come up with a new shipping charges policy to offset the loss of PM customers. I know for a fact that the ONLY reason I've bought certain things from them is because a PM+Rebate was more soothing to me than I was offended by the forced shipping charges. If I can no longer get PMs with Rebates PLUS I have overnight shipping charges tacked onto regular PMs, then I won't be buying anything from them online. I'll still shop at the B&M though. I think this may be what Staples wants anyway. |

Well, in this particular case from what I understood, four out of the five were returned to the stores in most cases because corporate only approved 1 PM. In the general case, there are only a finite number of FW/SD/etc. members. So it makes a huge difference if everyone gets one or five. And not only in terms of absolute dollars, which I suspect Staples is not hugely concerned about. It's more about the principle. Staples knows full well that most individuals do not have a need for five of the same printer. While they may be content to build good customer relations by letting a given individual get things for free or better every once in a while, they are not as ready to sit back and tolerate people running businesses that indirectly compete with them at their sole expense. This is the exact reason why many on this forum view some members as "greedy" when ordering for anything other than personal use or what could fairly be called personal use. |
