Years ago, Jerry Jones (owner of the Dallas Cowboys) made an offer
like this... for PRE-SEASON games! Needless to say, most folks
kept their guns... ROFL

you guys should just keep your gun and shoot those that hog the ball like McGrady and Bryant?

Last year, they collected almost 1,000 guns in a monthlong program that traded guns for shopping vouchers. A 2004 buyback offering cash and gift certificates also brought in about 900 guns.
It is also not the first time that the Sixers have participated in a gun sweep. In 1999, a three-day initiative that offered Sixers jerseys netted about 900 firearms.

If it works....

Just because they got people to turn in guns doesn't mean that those guns would have otherwise been used in a crime. My guess is most of the guns turned in are antiques/junk/stuff people had lying around the house and not guns that would otherwise be used by criminals.

A gun is just a piece of metal until it's used in a crime. Guns don't kill people, people kill people.

well see we use guns to kill people or guns to kill animals and everyone says it's ok for peopel to use guns to kill animals... then we eat the animals that we kill with the guns that were used by the people.. and the animals would maybe kill the people if they didn't have the guns or eat the people... so an animal could eat a person who has a gun who may have tried to kill a person with the gun who was eating an animal... so by my logic people should just eat people.

Well if there's one place where there would be spare guns just lying around I guess Philly's it.

Can the players also take advantage of this program ? Or should they keep them as a retirement plan.

Somehow, it is like that in reality. Can't you see it?

From the article: Police Commissioner Sylvester M. Johnson said. "My concern is not how sophisticated the weaponry or how many rounds it can fire - but if it can kill."

So if you can demostrate to them that your hammer can kill, you should be qualified. As all FWers always say, give it a try!

This is funny, when I lived there my service revolver(Navy issue) was stolen from my apartment. It was recovered through one of these buy back programs. After I received the notice, I went down to claim my 9mm, and they said that I needed to pay them $40 for the cost of the promotion used to get my gun back. After a little ranting, they reluctantly gave my gun back, stating that they would "bill me" for it. Still havent heard anything from them and that was 3 years ago.

alert mods

These gun buyback programs are a joke, no one will turn in a gun worth more than the tickets which is a worthless gun. Now having said that, if you have an old gun that doesn't work, or one that is worn out (barrel shot out) or whatever it might be worth it. Even still few guns are going to be worth less than $50. It really isn't a hot deal IMO.

I got to agree, that is one seriously messed up line of thought.

Id like to show up with some sawed-off shot gun, or some auto rifle.... It says no questions asked, wonder if it would stand true with an illegal gun.. lol

BTW, I have no idea if the 76ers or any good or if they have been in the Super Bowl recently, but you can find an old crappy 22 at a pawn shop for 50-75 bucks rather easy...

No, see this gives the criminals more reason to steal guns...they get paid, no questions asked!

And the hot deal in the above situation would be?

Go to pawn shop buy $50-$75 gun, turn it in for $50-$75 tickets. Out time and gas. Not hot.

And getting to sit in the section with all the people that turned in Guns. That ought to be a fun night.

Sawed off shotguns and auto rifles are not illegal to own.

76ers are a basketball team, so they don't play in a super bowl. Cheap tickes are $15-$30.

Not nit-picking. Just correcting factual errors.

Puzzled: So what are they gonna' give A.I. when he turns in his Gat's?

10 nosebleed seats to the N.O./OKC Hornets game when they roll into town? Hardly seems fair...
