Limited upper-level tickets to the following games will be available: March 9 vs. Denver; March 14 vs. Toronto; March 22 vs. Atlanta; March 24 vs. Orlando.
Stolen from SD...
Keep the gun handy if you are actually going to try and sit through one of those games.... |

Sawed off shotguns and auto rifles are not illegal to own.
troutmd said: BTW, I have no idea if the 76ers or any good or if they have been in the Super Bowl recently, but you can find an old crappy 22 at a pawn shop for 50-75 bucks rather easy...
76ers are a basketball team, so they don't play in a super bowl. Cheap tickes are $15-$30.
Not nit-picking. Just correcting factual errors.
An automatic rifle is not illegal to own????
Where can I go buy one legally...
Sawed off shotguns: "In the United States, it is illegal to possess a sawed-off shotgun (a barrel length less than 18 in. or 46 cm) without a tax-stamped permit from the United States Treasury, which requires an extensive background check and a $200 fee for every transfer. A new tax stamp must be purchased with every transfer of the short-barrelled shotgun, and transfers must be made through a Class III Federal Firearms Licensed (FFL) dealer. State and local laws may entirely prohibit civilian possession of short-barrelled shotguns." |

This would be a good way to dispose of a murder weapon. Melted down, no questions asked! |

Now if someone gets busted carrying a gun they can just say, "I was on my way to trade it in for tickets." Awesome coverup. |

Same tax stamp for the sawed off shotgun (correctly called short-barrel shotgun or SBS) or the full auto rifle (NFA). The $200 isn't usually the issue, it's the price of the rifle which will run between $6k and $100k. Generally legal to own sawed off shotguns, full-auto weapons, or silencers, though state laws may impose differnt restrictions.
Anybody who turns in a legally owned full auto for a $15 ticket needs his head examined.

Last year, they collected almost 1,000 guns in a monthlong program that traded guns for shopping vouchers. A 2004 buyback offering cash and gift certificates also brought in about 900 guns. It is also not the first time that the Sixers have participated in a gun sweep. In 1999, a three-day initiative that offered Sixers jerseys netted about 900 firearms.
If it works....
Just because they got people to turn in guns doesn't mean that those guns would have otherwise been used in a crime. My guess is most of the guns turned in are antiques/junk/stuff people had lying around the house and not guns that would otherwise be used by criminals.
A gun is just a piece of metal until it's used in a crime. Guns don't kill people, people kill people.
Well if there's one place where there would be spare guns just lying around I guess Philly's it.
Can the players also take advantage of this program ? Or should they keep them as a retirement plan.
No, see this gives the criminals more reason to steal guns...they get paid, no questions asked!
I believe this is actually one of the main reason peopel DON'T do these programs. One of the most traffic'd stolen goods is guns since the people that want them usually can't get them legally. This allows a person who traffics in stolen weapons to tradeoff for tickets which they can 'more' legally sell off at their leisure. Basically turns the government into a money laundering/fence organization. |

Not to mention that the program won't reduce crime. But it makes some people "feel good" and probably gets politicians a few votes from people who don't understand these things. |

Actually this ended up being a really good deal for some folks...A couple of years back a guy set up a stand across from one of these "trade in your gun for x" programs. He did appraisals and purchesed those which were worth owning. Pretty smart idear. Just get permission from the owner and set up shop. If I were there I'd be walking through the line seeing what people had and if anything good, offer to buy it.
Depends on the state of course. |

I live near Philly and even with all of the gun buy back programs. Gun crime is up. This holds true in most areas that hold to the thought that reducing guns will reduce gun related crimes.
I enjoy the Sixers but will choose to hold unto my gun collection. Just my .02 worth. |

Maybe they should give this away instead of the tickets. |
