there is no deal. no cash. 2nd mortgage won't get approved in time for BF. finally learned that two months later the TV/computer/things gets cheaper and better than what you've paid for on BF. still has that shoe print scar on your back.(but the law suit from that incident was the best BF deal ever.)

I never go out on BF, my time is too valuable to spend the day fighting the crowds. Since sites like FW have come into existence, there's really no reason to go out on BF, since you can get BF-quality deals throughout the year.
Personally I spend more time in the Finance forum instead of Hot Deals, I'd rather make more money than spend it.
Honestly, I like the BF deals, but it sure has wrecked the spirit from Christmas. Something about people getting crushed just because of a hot deal doesn't appeal to me.
Besides, in about a week or two after BF, similar savings can be had without killing each other or camping out hours before the store opens.
My time is too valuable to waste camping for an extra $10 off a back scratcher. Plus my sanity is infinitely more important that cheap stuff in stores. I'd rather sleep in and go shopping online with decent discounts. With all the money saved via FW throughout the year I'm more than happy to shop from the comfort of home
I am not going, certainly. But that is because I will be on vacation for one month .

True, but if you two are same age. when he pays off his house, you still have your car loan. When he retired at his 50s and start to travel all over the world, you worry about you have 20 more years to go with your home loan and you can't afford to lose the job.
I used to go but I now find better deals at times after BF so I don't even bother. I would rather pay a couple of extra dollars and not have to camp out at 3am to save $20.

Celebrate Thanksgiving with out-of-town relatives!
I usually go to one store for a few items. Now, that I have a 2 yo, I am not going to risk his well being at these sales. We have everything we need and we have all of our gifts for the next year. The only thing that would get me to the stores is resale stuff this year. Otherwise, I am staying warm in my bed with a stomach full of turkey.
I've gone after the rush. At about 10 AM last year I got Nero and a D-link router. That was it. Staples was sold out of the stuff I wanted at that time. I couldn't get the Staples online order to go thru for whatever stupid reason. I've never waited in line. A friend of mine got the $400 laptop from WalMart last year. I think she got in line at about 3:00 or so. She likes her laptop.
People that dont go out on BF just dont have the skills. Every year I get at LEAST a free laptop + future free items. Last year I made over $4000 (aol). Most people just dont see things the way use BFers do . If you see me freezing inline you better believe Im not there just to save $100 on a laptop
I should write a book one day and sell it on eBay.

This is the level I need to get to. THe problem Onion is the merch limit at places like BB and the limiting of rebates this year.
Probably not. I've never gone. I'd rather spend time with the family than purchasing stuff. Sure, there are always cool deals but most of them repeat and I hate crowds.

I'll probably go.
I went for the first time last year and I actually thought it was pretty fun and exciting. I bought a bunch of stuff on an impulse and ended up returning most of it...haha. I kept the HDTV I bought, though.

How do you know that he won't die tomorrow? or day after that? or the other guy win a lottery? has rich parents.... Life is full of surprises.. Live life to the fullest. Don't push it off til 50s, it'll be too late to enjoy mid life stuff at that age.
It's just money... you can always make more. You can't make more time.
I've never BF'd, but would definitely like to if I can find the right LCD deal. For me the low price of a good lcd would be worth standing in line. But if the price is not low enough for me then I'll pass, and just wait for future deals in my price range.

It's just money... you can always make more. You can't make more time. It's not an either-or proposition: thanks in part to reading the informative threads in the Finance forum, I've secured a nice fixed rate mortgage and worked out a budget that allows me to save enough for retirement (using optimal financial vehicles) while still being able to afford just about everything I want/need. Back when I started reading FW in 2000 I was all about the hot deals (anyone remember Value America? ), I guess I just outgrew it...I really don't need to constantly buy consumer goods to be happy. If I need to buy something, I'll do a quick HD search to see if there's a deal for it, but I won't - for example - buy something just because it's FAR.
The Finance threads are much more interesting than HD anyway.

I'm going to Home Depot for BF. No lines last year and lots of wonderful deals. $30 for a Ryobi cordless drill+light, $15 for a huge set of attachments for same, $5 toolbox.
onion said: ..even without AOL there is always a way to get a free laptop. You mean, by buying two and sell one. That's assuming they allow return and rebuy or you have a friend helping you out.

Prehaps you outgrew it, prehaps you are missing opportunities to pay off that mortgage faster or increasing your retirement fund by the resale potential of items in HD.
BTW..no HD, the finance forum would either be by charge or disappear....grocery forum....

After 12 years of working every BF at WalMart, I actually enjoy getting out just to hassle the people that still work there. Most of the time I'll pick up a few stocking stuffers ($5 toys, DVDs, etc) but I really don't look for the "must have" deals. As stated, a smart shopper can usually find a better deal/better product every day than BF provides.
Last year was truly disappointing as far as sales go... but I enjoyed the time people watching. This year should be even more fun in my little town; it's our first Christmas with a WM SuperCenter. Redneck roundup in small town USA.
I always make my husband get up and come with me. We usually are not in line for a certain deal but maybe for Sears $10 GC, then wait on the mall giveaway line. Last year we got free Glamour Shots and my nephews had their Christmas pictures done. We have very little income and plenty of time, and in Texas the morning probably won't be freezing. We always meet interesting and nice people and have great chats. Last year different companies like Starbucks and Krispy Kreme brought samples right to the lines.

I don’t think I’ll be going. Merely because I’m not an ebayer and I don’t really need much this year. I’ll go maybe to one store to pick up any FAR media if they have it but other than that I don’t think I’ll be getting up early and driving around alone. Being a chick my size sucks when it comes to sales- the good stuff is usually on a shelf to high (lol).
But mainly because I don’t celebrate Christmas so I don’t usually buy family members things that are typically on special on BF. Most of the stuff I buy usually go for retail so I’ll stay in order a few things online and around 12noon I’ll stop by an Office Max or something.
I think that WalMart was done this year by just one competitor: Google checkout. Because of the $10 off $30 and $20 off $50 discounts, I ended up buying everything from other retailers that honored the Google checkout discount rather than the big etailers WalMart.com and Amazon.com.
jswede4722 said: locdogg said: that's why I hate Wal-Mart, where it's black friday every day to some extent. I can get it cheaper there, but I have to wait in line and deal with the worst customer service possible to do it.
I choose to go to places with higher prices, no lines, and better service.
CNN is reporting that WalMart is going to report loss for November. They thought lowering their prices would bring customers in. All it did was force their competitors to match or lower their prices and the consumers went to those stores. I am so glad we dumped their stock last month.
It is not only the customer service issue. Other stores are cheaper and Walmarts quality on alot of stuff is just terrible.
What they really do not get is how to match what Target does with clearance.
