if you are talking about the WalMart 42" plasma, then you can clearly read the model number in the ad ... it differs from the link i posted by exactly one number (pdp42v18ha in the ad and the linked model is pdp42v12ha) ... i assume the specs will be very close (if not identical) ... |

m0ssie said:the 42" plasma @ Walmart, Does it have a tuner to pick up cable tv HD, or is only Over the Air HD capable?
i think to pick up cable tv HD, u need a QAM tuner ... so i would assume this tv (specs do not say QAM) will only pick up OTA HD ... |

i know a friend who has this TV and he is extremely satisfied with it ... he did use a AVIA (i think) disc to tune it, and pic quality is excellent ... i agree that viewing angles will be a little limited compared to the LCD and plasma, but u definitely get more screen for your dinero ... |

NO.
afaik all bigbox stores have a line in their price match guarantees that excludes all 'specials' 'limited quantities' and 'one day sales' which the BF prices are. |

The models may be similar, but they are not the same. The one in the Wal-Mart add states it has both tuners, where the one from the Viore site only has an ATSC tuner. Not a huge difference, but big enough for me to believe some of the other features and specs may vary. Either way I'm tempted to give it a go on the 24th. |

did u even read the full specs??????? the viore link i posted also says - TV Tuner: ATSC/NTSC TV Tuner ... it will be the same TV - WalMart can get a different model number just for their stores ...
if your friend in the store is able to open a box to check the manual for the specs, then please update us when you find out ... i bought the viore plasma last BF and the box itself does not have any information ... and they only got those in the store a couple of days before BF ... these TVs were never placed on the floor, they are just sold on BF morning and thats it ...

Meijer's 37" Sylvania LCD $699 after $200 online/mail rebate.
This looks to be the best deal thus far on a 37" LCD. Any other 37"+ for WELL UNDER $1K?
Still waiting on the HH Gregg BF ad, which will hopefully have significant savings on either the Olevias or Westinghouse models.

Why is the Costco Panny TH42PX6U for $1299 not included on the list? I know it's not a BF deal, but it's still worth mentioning and tracking.

True, but what is a Viore? Also, I was thinking I'd seen a scan that said 'min 2 per store' which makes me wonder if its worth trying for... while Meijers' ad says 'good fri and sat' |

ya, but even meijers has a limit - 750 chainwide, so even that might be a crap-shoot ...
i first heard of viore last BF, bought the 42" plasma at WalMart ... thought it was WalMart only brand, but now they are appearing in OM and a couple of other places ... my plasma was full of LG internals (panel and electronics), but u never know what u might get with such no-name companies ... someone above mentioned that Akai handled their service (or lack of)...

Ouch-- missed that, good catch.
For those of you who don't care about resolution or power consumption as much
42" plasma EDTV for $499 AR at Meijers is a pretty good deal. This one?
I may have to go that way since my PJ is going to be the primary 'movie' display anway...

Pretty much had done investigating and was going for the Panasonic 50" Plasma. Now I'm thinking I may go LCD. Can someone name the top two or three LCD manufacturers? I'll restart my investigating. (might wait for superbowl sales) |
