CEO - Sam Duncan - samduncan@officemax.com
CFO - Don Civgin - doncivgin@officemax.com
VP Marketing - Bob Thacker - bobthacker@officemax.com

The senior management team can be found on this website. OM Senior management You may either want to email all of them or select people like:

Harry Dochelli
Executive Vice President - U.S. Operations
In 2005, Mr. Dochelli was promoted to executive vice president of U.S. operations. He is responsible for all distribution centers and customer service centers in the U.S. as well as for the sales support departments in the company’s headquarters.

Harold Mulet
Executive Vice President - Retail Stores
he was responsible for all facets of store and field operations.

Randy Burdick
Executive Vice President and Chief Information Officer
responsible for OfficeMax’s overall information technology strategy and the development and implementation of programs in support of that strategy.

Sam K. Duncan
Chairman and Chief Executive Officer

Office max corporate email addresses seems to use the "firstnamelastname@officemax.com" style. As I mentioned in my previous post, track the email to see if it is "delivered" and "read". These people may not be aware of what's going on in the field and it will be good to notify them about what's happening and request for their assistance in resolving the issues you face with their offerings/deals and customer service.

My husband came up with a fantastic idea last night - contact Averatec and let them know the situation. Surely the wouldn't want their good name being associated with OfficeMax's business practices, and might be more inspired to find a good solution (i.e. fill the oustanding orders directly or the likes). Especially considering one customer service rep I spoke to said she was told it was Averatec's fault, as OfficeMax had a deal with them and then Averatec didn't come through (which I totally don't believe, but its good fuel for the fire, right?)

So I wrote an email to the execs at Averatec. These are the email addresses I used:

CEO Brian Yoon - byoon@averatec.com
VP Sales Joyce Ahn - jahn@averatec.com
General Sales - sales@averatec.com
General Marketing - media@averatec.com

Again, I had another one bounce back and these all went through (no read/delivery receipts yet), so I think these are correct. I'll let you know if I get any response.

I was first in line at OM on BF. Ordered the Averatec and of charged to CC at that time to be delivered to the store. Called customer service today and was told it would be at the store on 12/12.

I hope this is true. But, if not several letters will go out to those listed in previous postings as well as the state consumer fraud department.

Sorry to hear you're all having such troubles at OM, Lord knows I shop there as little as possible now with their horrible deals and idiotic CSR's and policies.

My buddy and I got in on the BB laptop deals (not that BB is much better of a store, but...) picked up 2x the $379 HP, a $249 Toshiba and a $249 Compaq (sub for the Toshiba, they ran out somehow) and everybody's (friends and family, that is, NOT paybay) is happy with them. I did my good deed for the year, one of those better to give than receive moments.

Well, the manager at the local OM refused to match sale price saying that corporate had compensated me and "all" of us by sending us the $50 gift card. I still have not been contacted by corporate with a substitute product offer and do not expect to be. I guess I will wait and call on Mon. and see what I come up with. Given that one of the local OM now has many of these laptops I guess I will wait on my gift card and get the store to price match another store´s cheaper price and then use the card to get a little more off. I really have no other option. I have filed with the FTC and my local BBB and we will see what comes out of that but I am not hopeful. I received a read receipt for the email I sent to the CEO at Averatec but I doubt he will care much. It is sad that customers can be victimized by businesses and get away with it. I also would like to remind those of you who mention the gift card as a $50 loss for OM that they are not really loosing that much money since that is $50 off of a retail item not actual cost so they will only loose maybe $30 depending on what product you pick out. I figure the only way to make sure they loose the total amount is to apply it towards this laptop.

They won't be losing my $50 gift card, as I don't plan on ever stepping foot in that store again. I'd sooner shred it than give them my business at this point.

I understand what you mean. I am just trying to make sure that OM doesn´t squirm its way out of losing more than it has to.

buy a $50 dollar item there then sell it.
btw this week best buy has a $399 version of the $250 laptop. it has a better vista upgrade path as far as i can tell

LOL, I just got an email reply from OM, basically saying, "Sorry for the inconvenience, item was of limited quantity depending on your region, please let us know if there is anything else we can do to serve you…blah, blah, blah." I sent the email 2+weeks ago. SInce then, I had called and managed to get my own personal resolution.

Anyone know if the OM Averatec qualify for Free vista upgrade? Thanks. I purchase it B&M on BF.

my gf got her averatec today after ordering it i think two days before black friday. lucky i guess >_<

Sorry to all you folks who waited eagerly for it. I know how sucky OM is.

The OM Black Friday ad specifically stated that a free Vista Premium upgrade was part of the deal. It's probably like many others--you go to the mfr. site and register your computer, pay a $9.95 fee, and then Vista is sent to you when it becomes available.

Thought all of you might like to read what I received from Averatec.

Dear ,

Here's what happened: Office Max tragically underestimated the response to their Black Friday sale and did not buy enough. A second purchase was done but they were sent to the wrong stores, so some had computers, others had none.

Managers on the store levels made the decision to accept "rain checks", but were unaware that more are simply not available. The reason for this is that we made enough to cover the initial shipments, but little more. We will be making more of that model but we have to wait for Windows Vista. The next generation will have Vista installed, so we don't want to load up on stock that will become so quickly obsolete.

Office Max says that they are going to honor as many orders as they can, and I'm told that they will offer another company's computer of comparable specs.

Best Regards,

ok, here's the latest - they are subbing a everex 2050T for the averatec. Looked up the specs: are here are the differences:
- averatec has amd duo, everex has intel core duo 2050 - slight plus to everex, or a wash
- averatc has nice graphics, nvidia, everex has a via chipset and a unichrome pro graphics - big downside to everex. the unichrome is one generation behind. It can even run vista aero because insufficient horsepower.

that means I just wait for my $50 gift card and write this episode off as another OM bad experience..

Where did you find out this information from or hear this from? I've been calling their distribution shipping number at 866-466-2927 (have your order# ready when calling) and I've been told my shipment is still on backorder. No specific date has been given to me yet as to expected ship date so I might just cancel my order and get some other laptop. They're supposed to contact all customers within 7-10 business days if your order still has not shipped so I would recommend calling them if you're one of the ones who is still waiting on your order.

Really disappointed in Office Max. A deal is not a deal when it goes sour like this one has for so many people who are still expecting their lappy's. I was told by the OM rep that it would ship to me within a week from BF but it's been almost 3 weeks now and no phone calls or emails have been sent to me by them so I've had to call them instead to follow up.

Office Max is at it again. Today's ad shows the Averatec 2370 for $749. Amazing what they can advertise when "it's no longer available".

Actually, there's this in the ad's fineprint:
----
Due to overwhelming demand, we are out-of-stock on the Averatec 12” Notebook N2370HM1E-1 (21165999) and will not be able to obtain additional product. In lieu of the Averatec notebook, OfficeMax is offering an $80 Savings on any one of the following models: HP Pavilion Notebook Bundle dv6125om-b (21167336), HP Pavilion Notebook dv9005us (21168923), HP Pavilion Notebook dv6109om (21169691). We apologize for any inconvenience.
----

So maybe they really don't have any.. For all the scumbags they might be, maybe they're more incompetent..!

They might've planned these sales far back, and didn't really anticipate the problems they would get into.?

Either way, OM is pathetic.. Which is it?

I got my $50 gift card today.

Not great, but not too bad I guess..

I called them and they researched it. Then they called me back. I confirmed the info, for whatever that is worth. Even though its cheap, I'm about to cancel. The everex is both no-name and has a mediocre previous generation graphics chip.

I got my Everex as replacement today. I was first in online on BF to order the Averatec 2370.
Although I did get a laptop, I am still not happy because I still felt that OfficeMax cheated (did not fulfill my order)

What do you guy plan to do about it?

I received the Everex stepnote SA2050T and I am pleasantly surprised. The specs on the web site are different than on the box, which is amazing. (Web site now corrected.) First, the laptop is made by the identical manufacturer as the Averatec. One look at the two and its obvious. Second, they really are comparable. The averatec has a dual turion. The everex has a intel T2050 core. ABout comparable, turion is slightly better. The averatec has a NVidia Go 6100. The everex has a GMA 950, at least on the outside of the box. About comparable, averatec is slightly better. The averatec comes with no disks, you can only generate with a hack a complete restore disk. The Everex comes with a XP media restore DVD. Everex wins hands down here. All else is mostly identical. The two have different screens, but not sure which one is better. The everex is brighter, but the averatec seems to have better readability, if that makes any sense. I was planning to send it back once I received it, but now will keep it. The decision maker was the GMA950 chip. For the $540+tax I paid, its a good deal. COmpare with the $399 or even $350 laptops on BF, which were Celerons: Core duo (+$100), 1 GB vs 512MB (+$50), DVD writer vs cdrw (+$50), 100 GB vs 40 GB (+$60), XP Media vs XP Home (+$20) = +$280 -> $350 + $280 = $630 without counting the subnotebook premium. Officemax did ok by them according to this analysis. SO I am pleasantly surprised!

I got mine in the mail today too. Not sure what I'm going to do with it. Thanks for the comparison info tho. Merry Christmas all!

i have the acer 5601 with core duo an 100gb drive
also have the $250 Toshiba.
the acer is definitely not $280 better than the Toshiba

I have an interesting case. On BF I ordered in store, and they told me it would take a few days. Later during that day, they called from the store telling me that my computer was ready. I drove down, and in fact, the computers were available (I assume the truck arrived and had the machines) I paid for the laptop and the manager cancelled my order from the morning.

I was on vacation for Christmas, and guess what! Oficemax delivered a package while I was out. The UPS driver just left it without any signature. Fortunately my neighbor picked the package that had been sitting for days outside because it was going to rain....

Anyways, I opened it and I found the everex 2050. I already turned it on to verify it is OK, and it is a very nice machine too (I still think the 2370 is nicer, but they are very close). I don't think I will keep the machine, so more than likely I will return it or dump it on the bay. However, I would prefer to have a fellow FWer keep it, so FW members get dibs on the laptop. If anyone wants it, PM with an offer.

Alex

Still have the Everex? Thanks!

i got my everex. how do you guys get the 50 dollars from them?

here's something weird. Just go an email saying that they are NOW shipping my Averatec N2370HM1E-1! This order was place on BF!!
