beefman said:As with anything else, even if you're outside the policy I'm quite sure exceptions will be made as long as the request is reasonable and you don't habitually abuse returns. How in the world can you be so sure of this? Why would you say "as with anything else"? Yes, Costco did stretch its price adjustment policy out to 35 days for me, but that required a supervisor's permission and considerable begging.
I think just the opposite. A new policy is likely to be followed to the letter, because bean counters will be watching closely. |

Yep, that's us. We spend about $200/week at Costco, on food, milk, kids clothes, etc. Big ticket items are only a small percentage of what we spend annually. 90 days is more than fair for electronic items -- the Costco return policy is really a customer satisfaction policy, not an unlimited upgrade policy. Heck, I'd shop more at BestBuy / CC if they didn't have the darn restocking fees!
That being said, they do have a lot of Costco specific merchandise, some of which is less than stellar quality. And some of those manufactuers don't really have the infrastructure to provide warranty service.
For example, I bought a patio set about 7 years ago. A couple of years ago, just short of the 5 year finish warranty, I noticed that one table leg was peeling. I called the number in the instruction book and despite the "warranty", I was told that no replacement parts were available and that I should seek a remedy with my retailer (Costco). Costco didn't have anything in stock at the time that I liked, so I just kept the set as-is. Yes, I could probably still return it, but I just don't feel right about getting a full refund on a 7 year old patio set that developed a cosmetic issue after 5 years.

This is a good change for Costco, they won't really hurt too much from the lost of the so called "customer" that claims how much they spent each year just so they can justify exchanging products over and over. |

I also bought because of the return policy -- and I may have to use it. The TV is fine, but the remote on my new Vizio 47" LCD is busted after only two weeks.
Isn't there an 800# or website for Vizio to have them send you a new remote? It just seems easier.

Costco.com Customer service replied "This item does not come with any warranties. That is because of the return policy. You can return the item at any time". Then emailed them back "Is there time limit for return?" And the reply I got at 10 AM today is "No, there is no timeframe for this item".
Which Plasma TV did you buy? |

Costco keeps a stock of replacement remotes (as least they did at our store), when the remote on a Sharp CRT tv I had quit working, they just exchanged the remote. |

Not that it is really hard to find the vizio web site, or contact information, but you asked: www.vizio.com
They have good technical support, and will be glad to send you a new remote.
Hope this helps you |

Sorry, there is no magical stock of replacement remotes at your Costco store. They either pulled one from a new TV, or got it from one of the numerous upgraded HDTV's sitting in the returns department.
So freaking ironic! LOL! |

Thanks, I was just making a suggestion for the one who was talking about returning the tv because the remote didn't work. I am watching a 20+ yr. old tv, lol. I only wish I had a 42" tv. |

Well i went into my N Cal costco and asked about policy since it wasn't posted and it was confirmed, the point is like I stated in my earlier post a heads up would be great, luckily we have FW... I like the fact that you could bring back the items without a problem or time frame I noticed the computers at costco for the most part are a little outdated and pricey for some models and that the store had pulled all of its laptops and only had Gateways desktops. I bought a mini mac last year because it came with 3 years of apple care for $599(tired of virus crap) because the new duo was coming out, I later found out from a friend of a friend thats works in apple as an accountant they sold the units to costco for $299 and depending on how many they delivered they would do so again on the next generation mac. That seems like a good mark up but it seems with all the returns in the past they were losing out on the other electronic returns kind of wish I bought a new ipod before this. What I would like to know is my executive membership useless as I don't see any other benefits, they used to take my returns without a receipt and give Cash Back instead of costco cash card and as I stated before they don't give free tire care anymore...
I came across this link pertaining to this subject, quite interesting... GL all

I'm about ready to get a bit miffed as I just renewed my membership for $50 the other day and I see this floating around the net:
Costco return policy is now 90 days for Electronics
It appears that this is official and it'll start rolling out soon to every Costco in the nation. Returns on electronics are now limited to 90 days. A spot that mentions they are "extending the warranty to 2 years" , what exactly is that supposed to mean? =/
One poster on another forum stated this: Talked with a Costco manager earlier and he said it was still at the individual manager's discretion. If you do have a legitimate concern about a defective item, they will still take it back after the 90 days. It other words, nothing is really changing they are just adding policy to try to control the abusers.
Seems too fuzzy to me. To say I'm disappointed would be putting it mildly. |

larrytrain said:This would be a fatal blow for companies like Vizio which sell primarily through Costco, have a high defect rate in their products, and count on people taking a chance on their brand because they know they can return it. Well said. Unfortunately, the laptop and hdtv "renters" or "squatters" ruined it for everyone. |

Costco Electronics Return Policy NOT Changing: In response to our recent article about Costco's return policy on Electronics changing, we were contacted by a member at Costco Corporate who told us this was a rumor and is untrue. Costco Corporate is aware store managers circulated documents detailing a change in the Costco return policy, and are relaying this false information to their employees and customers. Their return policy continues be an unlimited return policy on all electronics purchases, including HDTVs, GPSs, stereos, projectors, cameras, MP3 players, and phones. While they have no limit on how long they will accept returns with the original receipt, some stores may give difficulty with electronics returns greater than 3 years old.
Thanks for the "rumor" |

as of today at my warehouse the new policy takes affect. There is a more detailed 2 page memo that was sent to my warehouse and explains how the consierge service is supposed to replace the refund policy (where you can get an item fixed for free-- i think it was 3 years) This is good because my dad bought an hdtv for $2000+ and after a year the power supply blew. Now this is way too early for a psu to blow, especially in a tv that expensive. No choice but to either eat $2000 or return it as back then costco didnt offer to repair products.
Also.. trust me, costco is very customer service oriented and if you dont have return history you shouldnt have that much of a problem to return something after 90 days (will require manager aprooval though). Any time an exception to a rule is made for a member, a comment is put on the account that any manager can access. The problem before was that even if other managers put DO NOT ACCEPT RETURNS on the account (there are some people who return MORE THAN THEY BUY -you dont need a reciept to return something. how to explain this? one word: shrink.) legally costco still had to return the item. This is more of a way for costco to put a clmap on the abusers more than actually shortening the return length. My advise: buy as if it were a 90 day warrant, but if it does break within a short time frame go ahead and return it. Youl have to fight a little but like i said, if you dont have history you should be able to "bend" the rules
And just in case someone asks, anything bought before the warranty takes effect (different dates for different stores!) still can be returned anytime. So if you live on the east coast and visit the west and buy an ipod and try to return it after 90 days, good luck. the warranty might not have been in effect where you live, but it was where you bought it. (once again, put up a fight and theyll probably cave) |

So the Concierge service basically repairs an item for up to 3 years? Thats not so bad then. My problem was CS from Sceptre was bad so I just dealt with Costco (even the Costco CS said it would be easier then dealing with sceptre). |
