rollercoaster said:Just to confirm, this is still live. I got a postcard announcing the rate hike on Txt Messages last week, called tonight, and after initial, "no" response from CSR, reiterated that it constituted a material change. 2 minutes on hold and CRS OKed cancelation, and set it to take effect last possible day (10 May for me), AND waived ETF!. Cool.
LOVE T MO customer service -- BUT TERRIBLE SIGNAL, dropped calls, missed calls, etc. Oh well, back to shite-gular.

I learned about this opportunity to cancel my service from T-Mobile a little late and when I called into CS the rep told me I had until May 4 for the ETF waiver. I explained to them I had paperless billing and never received the insert they suggested I did. I asked them why was May 4 chosen as the deadline date when my billing cycle begins and ends every second week of the month. The rep could not provide a reason other than the company policy made it so which I found all too convenient. They would not budge over the phone one bit. I called in another time and the same story all over again. They gave me the fax # of customer relations dept. in order to submit a letter stating my problem with T-Mobile which I did.

Am I totally out of luck on this one?

You could ask them to prove they issued you notice within 30 days of may 4. or try another CSR. That sounds odd. I canceled b/f may 4 but they agreed to terminate the line on May 10 to give me time to port the #.

This seems YMMV. I just called today and was allowed the ETF waiver with an end date of May 21st. I have a family plan of two lines and only sent two text messages during the past 3 months.

Anyone here who got their T-Mobile bill with ETF on it. I was told that I can cancel without paying the 200 ETf and now they billed me the ETF. No CSR is helping right now and even the supervisor refuses to acknowledge any responsisbilty.

ANy suggestions on what I can or should do? Do not have sufficient funds to hire a lawer and fight for the three ETF I just got hit with.

I was told I could not cancel and they gave me the Fax number for corp as they don't have a mailing adress? If any one else has done the same let me know your response.

It's dead. I just called and was told that the deadline to cancel your service w/o paying the fee was May 26.

hell no its not

i just said i received the note last month, and the note said 30 days to cancel.
They said that they mailed it 2 months prior. I said how can you know when I have it in my hands from last month. Can you prove it to me?

he was silent for like a minute, and let me cancel after that.
done deal

Your supporting evidence that u need is from tmobile itself. If u mention about the sms rates increasing, they wont deny it. I called them after reading this blog/forum. I mentioned the sms rate increase and they confirmed. I told them that i had heard this from some friends and then i also stated that i went to an attorney and asked if this were true, wouldnt it be a breach of contract and allow me to leave tmobile w/o the 200 fee. And i told tmobile that this attorney confirmed that if it were true it would be a breach on tmobile's end. (BTW...I never spoke to an attorney, i b.s'ed them) So I threatened to switch carriers, but i said if they could make it worth my while i'd stay. Sooooo they gave me my plan that i have at 39.95 instead of the reg price of 49.95, plus they changed my number and waived the fee (i wanted it changed anyways) plus the biggest thing is that they are shipping me a brand new RIZR slide phone for 50.00 instead of the reg upgrade price of 150 with a renewal of contract or 250 w/o renewal. Basically they will pretty much do what you want them and what they need to to keep u as a cust. since they know they screwed up. So please i implore any one who reads this reply to take it serious cause now its time for us to stick it to the man, but its all legitt. so please give it a try and u will see 4 yourself.

i'd say you got a horrible deal.
I had like 8 months remaining, and I was offered free blackberry 8800 and 15% off monthly bill (told them cingular was much more expensive), but in the end i still said no, and they cancelled it.

call 3 different time and they all say that the cutoff date is may 26. i told them that i just got the increase notice in the may bill, and they won't budge. I'll definitely cancel T-Mobile when my contract expire in 4 month. fist they deny my rebate, now this? I'm done with tmobile

Did you have to extend your contract for a year or two? Thanks.

has anyone else been able to cancel without the ETF after the May 26 deadline. I called and was told that timeframe has past. Are there any other routes to take or has anyone gotten a CSR that has waived the fee regardless of the deadline passing? Please help, in dire need to cancel out of my T-Mobile contract.
