ATTENTION SUNROCKET CUSTOMERS!: Helpful link and information for your Dead Sunrocket Service (Unlock Gizmo and other opt Archived From: Deal Discussion

Update 7/17/2007 3:00 PM:

      • 1) Service seems to be working for many now and if your service is down try to powercycle your Gizmo. There are other advanced settings you can change to use specific SIP servers but I dont know where to look for them right now.
      • 1a) If service is down then login to your online Sunrocket portal and try to forward your calls as that might also work for you. If powercycle does not work then i'd try this before the Sunrocket ISP cuts its services and their online website becomes unavailable.
      • 2) Looks like ViaTalk which was the next best option is acting shady by shortening their 12 free month promo on $199 to 6 months because they think that we will just to them. I'd suggest that everyone wait this out and see if Sunrocket's customers are bought by someone espeically if your service is working somewhat.
      • 3) Also many want to stay away from ViaTalk because you have to prepay again $200 and also for shipping and "Activation".
      • 4) Other options to go over to other VOIP:
        Packet offer for Sunrocket Customers
        Vonage offer for Sunrocket Customers
ViaTalk = worst of these guys they not only took away their current offer for free 12 months but looks like they are more set on gougin current Sunrocket Customers then helping so i'd away those loosers.
VOICEPulse, MagicJack are also other options

Sunrocket is dead = Out of business, below are some usefull information from DSL reports and other sources:

      • 1) Save your account information pages. Print/Snapshot as many invoices and account information pages such as how long you have been pre-paid until.
      • 2) If your service does not work right now you can try forwarding your phone number to another number as this is working for people.
      • 3) Follow instructions here on how to unlock your gizmo to potentially use for other VOIP providers:

    Online instructions at Gizmopasswords

If you signed up for sunrocket in last 6 months, FILE A DISPUTE WITH YOUR CREDIT CARD COMPANY. Even though on their site if they mention that they will allow dispute for transations in last 30/60/90 days still file a dispute by fax. There are good chances dispute department will be able to still get your money back. The front line CSR are usually clueless and they will read whatever is written on website. So make sure you fax your dispute directly to dispute department or talk to dispute department.

AND DO IT ASAP !! BEFORE SUNROCKET MERCHANT ACCOUNT IS CLOSED.. if account is closed then you are SOL..

I just got prorated credit on my CC. I paid $210 to SR 4 months back and my cc's website says only 60 days for dispute.

Their presence on this list does not indicate endorsement! Search this thread for what others have to say about them. These companies are actively soliciting the business of SunRocket customers with "special offers", and indicate that they may be able to port over your SunRocket number (if you live in a supported area) to their service:
1. Nuvio
2. Packet8
3. Teleblend
4. Vonage
5. ViaTalk
6. Net2Phone
7. VoiceStick
8. Axvoice
9. Lingo

Some other companies mentioned here, but with no SunRocket customer offers visible:
1. AT&T CallVantage
2. Verizon VoiceWing
3. Voip
4. Vonics
5. magicJack (special offer, but cannot port your number)
6. Quantumvoice
7.
Gizmo Project + GrandCentral + old Sunrocket gizmo = FREE VOIP inbound/outbound calls anywhere in the USA!

Allo.com is NOT an alternative; as was uncovered in this thread, they seem to be sinking with the SunRocket ship, and will end operations as of July 31st. They are not accepting new customers as of now.

FCC Form
From @dslreports

"Everyone should go to the FCC site and register a complaint that SR left all their customers high and dry. Ispoke to them this morning and they said when they get enough complaints they would HAVE to act and get somehtning done. I filled out a Form 475, which I was told was the correct thing to do, also ther contact at the FCC said this was necessary to require that SR does not get rid of the phone numbers for their customers.

What are you doing with your SunRocket phone line?

NET2PHONE
----------
I only see one company offering to honor Sunrocket contracts:

Net2Phone VoiceLine

FIRMWARE HERE
==============
I just got a copy of the Net2Phone Innomedia firmware (thanks alkirobgyn) and flashed mine successfully.
I uploaded a copy of it to rapidshare linked below
http://rapidshare.com/files/44635204/Innomedia_Net2Phone_Firmware.zip.html
I dialed 611 and it went to Net2Phone support, so it is definitely using Net2Phone now.

Net2Phone Question:
====================
- What kind of proof you need to provide in order to show them that you are a former SR customer?
Regarding the first question, rebate form (avaiable at http://net2phone.com/sunrocket/pdf/rebate.pdf) says:

Any of the following three (3) documents may be submitted:
(1) Any initial communication that you received from SunRocket when you activated your service that
identifies your name, account number, payment and activation date and term, such as a welcome
email or welcome kit.
(2) A printout from the SunRocket online account center that identifies your name, account number,
payment and activation date and term.
(3) A copy of your credit card statement demonstrating payment to SunRocket for an annual plan.
For your privacy, we ask that if you are using this option, please block out: (i) your credit card
number except for the last four digits; and (ii) any information on the credit card statement except
your name and mailing address, date of statement and the SunRocket transaction.

PAP2 programming for Net2Phone:
--------------------------------
Here is what I have gathered, you need to put the MAC address of PAP2 on your account by calling n2p.
Config files for different phone adapters are here:

Looks like only outound calling with pap2 is supported. I will post my results once I am done configuring pap2

CC DISPUTE INFORMATION:

http://nkishore.com/2007/07/20/why-not-try-to-get-money-back-from-sunrocket/

CC DISPUTES FOR CUSTOMERS WHO LIVE NEAR WASHINGTON, DC, BALTIMORE, or ANNAPOLIS

For Sunrocket customers who live in Virginia or within 100 miles of Vienna, VA, you can successfully dispute CC charges as a breach of contract (15 U.S.C 1666i) provision. Normally, you have 60 days to dispute a "billing" issue, but in this case, the law allows for unlimited time duration for breach-of-contract or breach-of-warranty.

The classic case for this type of dispute: Order furniture from a company who says it'll take 90 days to deliver, but they go out of business 75 days later and your furniture never arrives.

Rules:
1) Must be within your home state or within 100 miles of vendor.
2) Charge must be $50+
3) You must have attempted to contact the vendor
4) Generally, you must give warning to your CC company before paying off the debt. With revolving credit, it is quite likely that you never paid off your card to a $0 balance (since you had more recent charges)

http://warybuyer.com/chargebacks.html

You can dispute any amount up to the total charge. I disputed the entire $199 charge under breach-of-contract rule, even though my charge was from 2006. I guess you can dispute only the pro-rated share... your choice.

PS. DD about this information.

What are the cheaper options if you want to get rid of sunrocket?
I already am on a 10$/month plan . is there anything cheaper than that?

ramkay said:"Since Sunrocket is dead " -- what do u mean OP ????

There were rumors that Sunrocket was not paying its affiliates. People ignored it.
SR fired/layed of some big higher ups and employees.
Last week there were more rumors that employees were getting layed off.
Last Friday more rumors of a sale going through for SR.
Today their registrations servers (when you disconnect and connect the gizmo) are off.
Call SR customer service and you get the message that they are no longer taking customer service calls.

Dead = Out of business and no one knows that the hell is going on and since this is VOIP they are not even regulated by certain FCC rules about your phone number.

Shahhere

I think the mods should keep this post on Hot deal because we have had many many many Sunrocket deals and those people should know what is going on right now.

Shahhere

mine is working fine

wow, never knew they were doing so bad. From wiki: "SunRocket laid off 25% of its staff on 6/29/07. More staff was laid off on 7/13/07. The last of the staff was laid off the morning of 7/16/07."

Reading couple of old news, this company was doomed when the founders left imo.

My SR still works just fine - as of right now.

sounds like it won't for much longer. I agree that having this posted in hot deals is useful. People who really rely on their phone service should probably look at lining up something else if they can't afford to be without their landline for a while.

It will be at least some sort of eye opener for those who jumped on 2yr for the price of one year deal. Hope you guys get things going well in future.

Terrific
which are the best (cheapest) other alternatives at this point? I haven't really been paying attention to any other deals because I THOUGHT I was now good until 4/2009 after re-upping my 2 for $199 deal.

And boss is gonna love me know. They just signed up 2 moths ago for the same deal. They may have gotten lucky since I'm not sure their number ever ported. Hopefully they can still open a CC dispuite.
I'm out of $600 now...2 accounts for me and one for son. Lovely!

Is best option, for someone like me who doesn't want to lose phone number I've had for last 15 years, to buy something like a tracfone and port number temporarily?

Makes me wonder where Vonage is headed. They aren't doing too well either. Would appreciate it if people could post alternatives based on their personal usage experience (and not word of mouth/ speculation/media reports et al)

thanks

they are no longer taking customer service or sales calls.
this sucks who else gives 2 years for 199.00

If your phone does not work you can forward it and so far that is working for many.

TOTALLY AGREE ...
Mine was up for renewal 1 month back and didn't renew it in favor of Skype out.

I just spoke with ViaTalk. Here is a post i recently placed in another thread:

I'm wondering if ViaTalk is a viable candidate in leiu of sunrocket. They have 2 years and 2 lines for $199. Here is my conversation with the CSR:

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Please wait for a site operator to respond.
You are now chatting with 'Brooke'
Brooke: Hello, how may I assist you?
you: are you aware of the sunrocket VOIP company?
Brooke: Yes.
you: I'm looking to sign up for VOIP service, but am concerned about my contract being fulfilled. I lucked out and tried signing up just after they stopped taking customers.
you: how solvent is ViaTalk? what would happen to my contract if the company was no longer solvent
Brooke: We are a debt free company and are financially backed by our sister company HostRocket, who is a multimillion dollar company and also dept free.
you: good. IF something were to happen...Say the company filed for bankruptcy, what would happen to my contract?
Brooke: You would have to contact the billing department, unfortunately, I am not certain. The number is 1-866-626-7150 option 2.
you: thank you.
Brooke: No problem, have a great day!
you: in case i sign up, are you offering any promotions, currently?
Brooke: Yes, a free second line and a free year of service.
Brooke: With the purchase of a year at $199.00.
you: good. thank you.
Brooke: No problem, have a great day!

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I'll post an update when i find out from billing what will happen in case of a bankruptcy/buyout.

EDIT:
Billing has no clue what would happen to their contracts, but assures me that ViaTalk is debt free.

I have spoken to a CSR on Friday about billing issue ($3 credit for international calls disappeared) and my second number was taken out magically apparently by me using their website. Got both of them back talking to a CSR.

Any recommendations for good VOIP providers, looks like time to switch. I already have 2 gizmos (1 unlocked and 2nd locked gizmo).

i have 2 gizmos from cancelled deals, where can i use them once unlocked?

Heh. It does seem to be dead. The member login page doesn't work even.

And to think I didn't even notice. Shows how much I use my landline.

Update: The login page did come up. Just very slllloooowwwwwllllyyyyyy.
