Quit BlockBuster, I dare you, if they close I will eat my words. Are you being intentionally combative or are you really THAT uninformed? First off, I don't believe I have ever said they were going to "close." Anyway, when I turned in my mailer for one of my remaining in-store exchanges yesterday, there were about a half-dozen renters there and EVERYBODY was discussing the email we received and comparing notes. Several people were highly irate that they were paying the same amount each month and getting different levels of service. Out of the 6 people there - 5 said they were going to NetFlix, 2 of them because of the disparity in plans for the same fee. I am not saying that every BB store will close, but rest assured the BB corporate structure will NOT remain organized like it is for very much longer. The rent for the brick & mortar stores is a huge money-loser for the corporation. They will soon announce download kiosks and focus more on sales than rentals to streamline the operation. One thing that may really help them is that Movie Gallery is likely to bankrupt shortly. That may bump their stock slightly when it is announced. Also, the likelihood that the DVD rental age is about to end with downloadable video replacing it means that not just BB but NetFlix will have to rethink how they plan to deal with that whole situation. No one really has the "crystal ball" to say anything with certainty, but I am betting (with my stock sales and purchases) against BB. BTW, NetFlix already has TWICE the subscribers BB has(7.6M vs. 3.6M). |

At my local store, if you didn't check out new releases by Wed. (ones with 6-8 copies), they were gone. Good point... I actually get all the new releases by mail right when they come out, so I dont need to worry about that. I do know it is near impossible to get new releases in the store, though. What I don't understand is why the clerks try to talk every customer into signing up for total access. The way I see it, is that they are directing people to another service where eventually they wont be needed anymore. Once everyone is part of total access, BB will change its plans so that you dont get any instore exchanges. You wont get any instore coupons. Eventually they wont need the brick and mortar stores anymore. |

New releases are never around after Tuesday. I doubt it will change after this plan is enacted. |

If everyone using BB online now has to rely more heavily on renting online, rather than trading instore, I predict that those new releases you found so easy to get online will dry up. Everyone online will be clamoring for them online rather than instore. I just wish BB would make the 5 instore rentals be as coupons rather than mailer trade-ins. The way their working it is the 5 trades are on a calendar month meaning you'll most likely end up with at most 4 per month. It is very hard to squeeze in that 5th rental as you'll have to start/end your calendar month on the same day each month. Who's got time to track it that precisely??? |

For those who are interested in joining NetFlix due to BB's price increase (and/or other reasons), there is a CB deal going right now that gives you $28 CB plus 2 weeks free when you join as a NEW MEMBER and by 08/31/07. Details in the below link: http://www.fatwallet.com/forums/messageview.php?catid=18&threadid=756260&start=0 I was a past member so I didn't qualify. Nonetheless, I went back to NetFlix today for their 2-at-a-time deal. |

Thanks bravebiffy! I just signed up for NF...time do dump BB when this month is up!! Quick question, if my billing date is the 20th of the month, does that mean I will still get unlimited in-store exchanges until September 20th based on BB's following terms? The new subscription plan and pricing will go into effect on your regular monthly billing date following August 31, 2007.† bravebiffy said:For those who are interested in joining NetFlix due to BB's price increase (and/or other reasons), there is a CB deal going right now that gives you $28 CB plus 2 weeks free when you join as a NEW MEMBER and by 08/31/07. I can answer that question - yes it does mean that. I was told today when I did my little exchange that this was my "last month" on the old deal. So that means they get to keep me through Sept. |

I've been an online customer of BB almost since the beginning of the service. This new pricing schedule and the way it is being handled (at least in my case) is a joke. My acct. was stopped on 8/25 because I did not choose a new option even though the deadline was listed as 8/31. In addition my acct was paid through 9/2. I have not received any movies for the past week because of this. Sent email to customer "support" and received a reply which did not resolve the situation. Called customer "support" and the acct. was then reset with free time added to make up for the cancellation and this past week of not receiving anything. Customer rep. told me that if I did not cancel before the end of the two week period I would be switched to and billed for the new 17.99 plan. Was told that the two free weeks would also give me a chance to try out the new plan (TRY OUT?? Been using BB online for quite awhile and quite familiar with the service). I was also told by the rep that most people were happy with the new plans and that the elimination of the ecoupons was based on a survey which showed that many people forget to use them. Got home from work and checked my email and had received email from customer rep regarding completing acct. registration online (sounded like I was a first time user) and then this was followed by another email with a new offer. Clicked on the link for new offer and tried to logon but password was invalid since rep had turned it off and told me to reset. Reset password and tried to click through offer link but stated that it was now invalid. However the 17.99, 2 week free offer was now in place. Wrote another email regarding the second offer but, before sending, attempted to access my acct. one more time just to make sure that new offer link did not work. Unfortunately, my acct. was now inactive. Added note about inactivation to the email and sent it off to customer "support". Would have preferred to call but offices were closed. Received an email late Friday night with a link to a survey regarding the reply to my most recent email. Hard to respond to a survey about an email response I NEVER received. Guess I definitely fall into the "nonpreferred" customer group. I did send another email addressing the receipt of the survey link regarding the nonexistent Blockbuster email reply. Waiting for the response to see if they resolve anything but I've decided that I'm going to give NetFlix a try. Hoping they have their act together better than BB. I have received no reply from them as of this afternoon, 9/1. Maybe they are off for the labor day weekend??? Maybe they don't want to bother. They do note the following: "Due to a recent increase in e-mail volume, please be patient as our Customer Care group works to send a response as quickly as possible." At least I was still able to use my last two e-coupons yesterday before they inactivated my acct.

It's clear that a 'preferred' customer is one that uses the actual service very little. In other words, you pay BB your monthly fee but don't rent/exchange many DVD's (maybe 5-10 total DVD's a month combined in-store and online). BB and NetFlix both want customers that pay them but don't actually use their service. It's along the same line as Sprint cancelling customers for calling their customer service dept frequently. All they want is your money. How BB defines a customer as 'preferred' is nebulous and discriminatory. You can be sure their 'formula' targets high renters to essentially go away. In my case I've been given the kiss off: my account shows next billing 'NA'. If I don't resubscribe under a new plan I'm done. If they really wanted my business they'd simply change my plan and continue to bill me under the new terms. My reaction to this will be to simply turn around my mailing time quicker. BB will be spending more on postage. I don't really see how this will be more economical for them. |

I just got billed last night for September and it looks like they have not changed my plan at all: Your current plan... * BLOCKBUSTER Total Access Premium * $17.99 / month (plus taxes) 3 at-a-time, unlimited mailings unlimited in-store free movie/discounted game exchanges +1 FREE bonus Movie or Game Rental E-Coupon / Month * Next Billing Date: October 03,2007 I'll stay with BB as long as this is my plan but if they limit my in store exchanges or change the price I am paying I will switch back to NetFlix. I prefer Blockbuster because my kids love to go pick DVDs at the store. |
