In other words, you pay BB your monthly fee but don't rent/exchange many DVD's (maybe 5-10 total DVD's a month combined in-store and online). BB and NetFlix both want customers that pay them but don't actually use their service. It's along the same line as Sprint cancelling customers for calling their customer service dept frequently. All they want is your money.
How BB defines a customer as 'preferred' is nebulous and discriminatory. You can be sure their 'formula' targets high renters to essentially go away. In my case I've been given the kiss off: my account shows next billing 'NA'. If I don't resubscribe under a new plan I'm done. If they really wanted my business they'd simply change my plan and continue to bill me under the new terms.
My reaction to this will be to simply turn around my mailing time quicker. BB will be spending more on postage. I don't really see how this will be more economical for them.
i'm sure theres a cut off, but the level must be high, like I said before, I get at least 3 movies a week in the mail and 3 in store, EVERY week. so every week its 6 movies or about 24-30 a month, thats 3 times your guess. Are you saying BB kept you on the original plan (3 out at a time, unlimited exchanges and 2 coupons) with the 24-30 a month activity? |

I e-mailed them when I heard about the rate increase because I had not received an e-mail. This is what they said to me:
Like all retail businesses, we must periodically review our pricing structure. In introducing a wider range of subscription plans, we considered a number of factors related to online memberships including in-store activity on a given account. We’re giving our most frequent renters like yourself the option of either continuing with similar great benefits at a higher price point or moving to a new plan if you'd like to continue your membership at a lower price point and agree to limited in-store exchanges. Additionally, our envelopes are now valid for discounts on in-store game rentals. |

Yes, I can still print the two per month I get in my account. You must be lucky. Today is my new billing date and my account shows limited instore exchange and the e-coupon disappeared. |

They are allowing people that are renting only a few movies to stay with the old plan if you were a heavy renter (like 25+ per month), then you most likely received the email. |

New Twist: Paid through 9/14 on existing plan - BB not shipping next in queue (close to expiration date I guess). Go to 'choose' new plan to remain a customer, and here's the twist, would get a new billing date of 9/9. Nice how BB wants to reward themselves with a free week at my expense. |

My account renews tomorrow. I returned three movies last night but they haven't shipped an out as of yet. I did email them that I did not want to switch to the new plan and I wanted to remain at my current plan. I never received a response. I guess I'll find out tomorrow what the results will be. |

People who rent only a few are cash cow. BB has no reason to mess with them. I too received this email and decided not to renew. Instead of going to NetFlix, me and my friends are starting a co-op. Each of us buys a movie (mine first one is Prison Break season 2), watch it then pass to the next person. After we are done, we will sell it to fund more purchases. So far it's working well for us. If you have a group of friends you can trust and have similar taste, you might want to give this a try. rakswp said:They are allowing people that are renting only a few movies to stay with the old plan

I guess I'll find out tomorrow what the results will be.I checked. I have been lowered to 5 exchanges, but they left the 2 monthly game/movie coupons. That's a dilemma, I've reached a point of saturation with movies at the store- there's little for me to rent- even online. But I still get the game coupons. Unfortunately, BB has decided (according to a store manager) to stop buying XBox games and switch over entirely to 360... I may ride it out until all the decent XBox games are gone... |

I thought I had gotten by but I just got an e-mail from them that said my account would not renew unless I selected a different plan. I guess I will get to take advantage of the Netflix 20% off coupon. Also, BB stated in the e-mail that I received that my subscription was due to renew on 9/21 but my account reflects 10/3 as the next billing date. I e-mailed them to make sure that I did not get cut off almost 2 weeks early. |

We were lured away from NetFlix with the BB plans and in less then 6 months they have forced us to make a choice to a new plan. Wow, I am shocked and the lack of honor to their customers. If you look through the internet there is shock spreading fast already. We need to build the momentum to change their intent. Post negitive comments everywhere, YOUTUBE, FACEBOOK, etc. Lets work fast as if we all start posting it will spread and make network news and they will cave. This is BS as Blockbuster’s corporate honor cannot be trusted and if this monitory change goes into effect they will continue every year. It’s the principle so together lets show them what happens when the screw with customers. We can stop this BS. BB-Pissed Customers Customer. |

BB-Pissed Customers Customer. Whoa, hold on there maverick. You were "lured away from NetFlix" because BB had a better deal at that time and you, on your free will, LEFT NetFlix because of it. Am I right? So when they ended the promo unexpectedly, you're just pissed now and want revenge. Your reaction reminds me of the I-dumped-my-wife-for-a-younger-hottie-that-got-fat-and-ugly-later-so-I'm-suing-her-for-ruining-my-marriage story. Hey, I'm no longer a BB customer due to their price increase (and service decrease) but I don't think it's necessary to do the things you suggested. If you don't like the way BB do their business, do what I do and walk. There's no written law that I and everyone else *HAVE TO* patronize BB. Once enough people walk and BB loses enough business, they'll bring the old plans back (or maybe even a better plans!). |

Exactly! My billing period is the 22nd of this month and I am out. I signed up with NetFlix for the first time, and as a new customer they are rolling out the red carpet and shipping my DVDs at lightning speed (doesn't hurt that I live in Chicago). I also used the $28 FW Cashback to sign-up, so my first 3 months will be free. As soon as the dust settles from BB's tweaking of their plans to this new limit on in-store exchanges BS, BB will realize how many customer they lost and why. I would not be one bit surprised if they returned to unlimited in-store exchanges at some point. Even if they do, I may or may not switch back because after a year with BB it's becoming quite a hassle just to find titles in store that I'm interested in, save for the occasional new releases. In that year (14 months actually, including the free trial month), I rented 139 movies at a total cost of $140, or $1.01 a rental. The Total Access exchange program didn't even start until my 4th month. I deemed Blockbuster a good value. At this point I do not. But if it becomes one IMO in the future, then heck, maybe I'll sign up again. bravebiffy said:If you don't like the way BB do their business, do what I do and walk. Blockbuster still offers one plan with unlimited, you just have to pay up if you want it. For keeping my queue full, I go to Videoeta.com, click on the "By Month" link at the top, and add movies which show some box office returns. I usually go a few months out. Since all the info about a movie is linked, I can decide if I want it or not. Blockbuster will let me put new releases in the queue as far as six months before DVD release date. |

Yes, I meant at the same prices it used to be at. I think the whole point when they did it was to differentiate it from NetFlix at the same price point. It was a smart move. But jacking up the price 9 months later may not be so smart if they anger some of their customers into leaving. We'll see.. happypants said: Blockbuster still offers one plan with unlimited, you just have to pay up if you want it. |

I've been waiting for the other shoe to drop, but it looks like I lucked out. Last December, when I looked over my options on the change plan screen, I was (mistakenly?) offered a 4 out plan for the 3 out price. I think it was supposed to be only for areas that don't have company stores. My billing date was 9/12, and I've been waiting to see whether it would be changed. Thankfully, it wasn't. So I get 4 out, 1 coupon, unlimited exchanges, for 17.99. I am a very heavy user, I go through 25-30 a month and exchange them all in-store. Hmm, maybe I was saved by the fact that I was on vacation for half of August. |

FYI: I logged in to cancel my account just now. I was on the 1-at a time, unlimited exchanges, 1 e-coupon plan for $9.99 but was going to be moved to a plan with only 2 exhanges and no e-coupon, still at $9.99. There was a screen right before I cancelled that had options for other plans that "might suit me better". One of them was the exact same plan they threatened to take away from me, with unlimited in-store exchanges (not sure about the e-coupon) for $8.99 for 3 months, $9.99 thereafter. It was too little too late for me, as I have already switched to NetFlix. But thought some of you would want to know if you're on the fence of cancelling or not, you may get this option... |

I tried that and on the right are the new crappy plans, $8.99 is just movies by mail no exchanges, also i see $7.99 for unlimited exchanges but only two mailed a month, what is that? Guess you can only exchange the two you get, so its four movies a month for $8 =$2 a movie. lol |

I clicked on the link from the email that said Cancel (about the new limits of 5 instore and no game coupon) and in the box chose "Other" and typed in something like "New policy of 5 in-store exchanges and no game coupon". It then gave me an option for 4 free weeks of Mail Only service (among other pay options). So I said what the heck and took the 4 free weeks of mail-only as there are only a few things that I want to watch anyway. I like to use this service during the summer when the TV shows are all repeats and get stuff to watch. Next year I can sign up again for only 1 free month |
