Amazon Link to show a description of the item currently going for $199.
As for this next part VERY YMMV as most people are reporting simply paying the $49.97 for each....but this was my experience tonight
Got the last one in Kendall Park, NJ and...sure enough it rang up at $49.97. But then something weird happened. Immediately after ringing up, the register rang up another transaction automatically. It all reads as follows
1600211 TiVo SINGLE TUNER TCD5400 1 49.97 1080691 EMPTY $50 on 16-211 1 50.00- 1002703 $170MIR 16-211 1 0.00
Subtotal 0.03- Tax 7.00% 0.00 Total 0.03-
The guy who rung me up was confused and called his manager on the phone. After a few words back and forth.....he completed the transaction and said "HERE YOU GO!"
I said....."Free??"
Reply....."Yup....enjoy!"
As I left I said..."Thanks....keep the 3 cents "
I'm still in shock!
If anyone is interested, there is still a display model avail at the Somerset, NJ RS.
EDIT: Now the deal is HOTTER! Thanks to ca0100000, there is another $50 rebate for each system bought up to 10!
Edit 2: A WAY TO MAKE THE DEAL SWEETER
This just keeps getting better and better!
So it works this way now,
Buy 2 from RS = +$100 Buy 2 dual tuner model from Amazon w/ $100 New Activation cards = + $200 Activate both RS Models using the two $100 activation cards = $129 (1st activation) - $100 card and $99 (2nd activation) - $100 card = +$29 Collect 2 X $170 rebates = -$340 Collect 2 X $50 rebates = -$100
End result at this point:
$100 + $200 + $29 - ($340 + $100) = Net Profit of $111 (less taxes) plus two activated 80hr RS Tivos and two unactivated dual tuner TiVo's from Amazon.
THEN, after you get the rebates back, switch your subscriptions to the dual tuner ones and sell off the 80 hr single ones.
EDIT: there are $10 off $40 coupon in some Entertainment Books which would sweeten the deal
are you sure they wont spy and find out the 2 tivos are pulling in data from diff zip codes? dont know how anal they are about this. if someone can confirm they have been doing this, i can sleep better tonite

I've been doing it for 2 years with 3 different units.
another rebate from RadioShack for 50.00 prepaid mastercard
HOLY COW!! It's good for up to 10!!??? So we can buy 10 of these, and basically it just cost us tax even if we never do the activation? Incredible. This deal has just increased majorly!

So...to make sure I have the math correct:
$50 for TiVo (not including taxes) $129 for a year of service -$170 rebate -$50 Mastercard -------------- =$41 in the black, plus a year of service... I think that just might be better than the Best Buy accomodation deal for TiVo that cost me $80 bucks. That year subscription is ending this month. Good timing!

I just checked the radio shack next to me no go darn. Can i do a rebate on the free with activation units i bought last night from TiVo itself. I purchased three for free with activation was curious if i can get the rebate. The price paid was just the activation fee so i dont know if that would be helpful or not.
keep the math conservative. god knows how ca0100000 chanced upon the $50 rebate, but the fact that its not advertised anywhere and didnt print in store, coupled with the multiple reports of a "$50 discount" popping up on cash register, leads me to think they might have changed the promo at some point to be a instant discount which is being cancelled by the CSR. whatever it is, its not gonna stop any of us from snatching the $50 from state AG pocket, if it comes to that (as long as someone has saved the pdf). so let every soul/dog/MIL < 10 you know have a TiVo.
@tbach: no you cant. rebate is for retail purchase. if you do find one at an RS, i believe TiVo has a 30-day trial/return policy. not sure of the details.

So what if we only have one TV, can we activate both TiVo? I never had one.
stsarvet said: So what if we only have one TV, can we activate both TiVo? I never had one. You activate them online.. you can get these rebates without ever actually hooking up the TiVo up to a TV.
haridsv said: So what is the difference between the one on sale at the store and this? That one can record a show while you watch a different channel. With the single tuner the TiVo has to be tuned to the channel recording.
QUESTION: Do each of these rebates need separate envelopes or can we put multiple radio shacks in an envelope and the two TiVo's in one envelope?
From what I read, it sounded like RadioShack rebate only needs one copy of the form, so you can stuff multiple receipts/UPCs in 1 envelope. The TiVo one needs a new form for each DVR, so I dont know if we can put them both in 1 envelope or not.

That one is dual tuner - record 2 shows at once or record one and watch another

Ok, here's something that can make it even sweeter... but I am not sure if it will work, can some TiVo experts chime in.
1. Buy 2 dual tuner tivos (that come with a $100 TiVo service gift card) from Amazon.com - $200 approximately. 2. Buy 2 80 hr tivos from RadioShack - $50 x 2 = $100 3. Activate the 2 80 hr tivos using the 2 TiVo service gift cards - $129 + $99 = 229 - $200 (GC from step 1) = $29 net paid to TiVo. If you are a current TiVo subscriber like me, then your total will be $99 + $99 = $198 - $200 = $2 leftover for 2 1 yr subscriptions. 4. Total spent = $200 (from step 1) + $100 (from step 2) + $29 ($0 for current TiVo subscribers) = $329 5. Send it $170 x 2 + $50 x 2 (YMMV - RS rebate) = $440
Make money + you have 4 TIVOs. Not sure, if after getting a rebate you can switch the 1 yr to the 2 dual tuners you have and sell off the single tuners.
YMMV, total subject to tax and the 99 cents that I have not considered.
Can these boxes be moded to have different functionality, like a PC to media receiver?

Is there anyway to use these service cards if Ive already paid the activations on my other 80 hour boxes using credit cards?
No, as per the TiVo service gift card FAQ you can only use it on new activations. I bought 1 Amazon DT but haven't activated it yet, was going to return it but now, it makes sense to use it for the $100 GC and activate the RS Tivos for the rebate.

What about if I called in, canceled within the 30 day window, and then reactivated using the gift cards?

You can do that but not sure how the TiVo contract would play in, might want to check no that.

Thoughts?
man, this just keeps getting richer & involved. it should work just like you have described.
Hah, I wish I hadnt jumped the gun and activated already... will call in tomorrow to service and see what they can do for me.

Someone please be so kind and help me out here.
I may be having a brain fart tonight, but I don't see any indication on the form that the TiVo $170 rebate can be applied twice (i.e. to two separate units).
OK, I'm off to read that rebate form a fourth time.
my4mainecoons said: I'm probably going to suck it up and renew for another year. They won't be able to renew it because the cc # they have on file is no longer valid. So, is there a way for me to make a little on the renewal other than the % back on a cc? I looked at FW Cash Back and its only w/ purchase of a box. Any other way to lower the cost?
I dunno, but I would like to know too. Best I could do was $99 for another full year sub, and it goes on my CC with 1% CashBack rewards. The consider one of my other FAR tivos to be the primary, even though they are now running on multiple free months worth of "customer satisfaction" or whatever they call it when they throw 3 months at you to keep you from canmceling. I have tried to cancel down from 5 units to just 2 or 3, but every time they keep offering me complimentary 3 months... especially if I say I am going to probably give it away, then they say how I can give it away and the person can have a free trial subscription plus no contract obligation, blah blah blah (insert sales speech here). So I still have subs on 5 units, am only paying for 1 that just renewed for $99 for the next year, even though I am only really using 3 units.
TiVo got me hooked with this deal too (cost them a lot of FAR units and subscriptions though), although I already had a ToshibaTiVo with free lifetime basic from an earlier deal ($100 with dvd burner from BB), TiVo basic just doesn't quite cut it for me any more. Room-to-room transfers are too handy, as are season passes, transfer to PC and burn to DVD, etc.
