Is the $400 Dell worth the extra $50 over the Staples Compaq?

the cheapest laptop of all is not included in OP's post . it is on Best buy secret item list for $229.98 Toshiba A135-S7403 Laptop & Canon 3-in-1 Printer Package
Notebook SKU: 8593854 Printer SKU: 8470013

Been trying to follow this thread, but may have missed a couple of posts along the way.

There seems to be some concern over the Compaqs (both CC and Staples doorbusters) with regard to maximum RAM capacity. Some people are saying it's capped at 1GB...I did a chat with a technical rep at Staples.com and he couldn't confirm or deny.

One thing I had been looking for was an integrated card reader, which the generic 700-series spec sheet said was included. The Staples rep, however, was able to confirm that their model did not have one...I'm now seriously considering sleeping in on BF and just redeeming some of my credit card reward points for one of the countless non-BF hot deals.

I think its a decent laptop. I am also looking forward to but the same. Only 220$ MIR is little disappointing coz have to pay tax on 819$.

Also, I heard people saying that if you want to install XP drivers are not easily available. Otherwise I liked specs and performance review.

$899 -$80 IS - $220 MIR=$599

Lenovo at OD

People seemed to love it at $679 here but since its BF, there might be better deals out there? What do you guys think?

Yes, but. In the words of our IT guy, this laptop would hardly be able to run Calculator in Vista. And the printer isn't that great either. You're much better off spending $100-$150 more and getting a workable laptop.

This information was not available at time of posting. Also, I think $300 for a dual-core pentium is a much better deal than $230 for a celeron...

Can anyone confirm that Staples will be selling the compaq? because the compaq is missing from their official bf ad.

spent 5 mins reading AlexRuiz's post and ended up with no solid conclusion as what this author tries to say. What's your justification on your laptop choice?Didn't you mean "MediAn"?

I know this is the laptop thread but does anyone have some advice on BF desktops? A co-worker is asking and I do not have time to check them out at the moment. Thanks.

Haven't you come across the amazing post BF2007 Buying Guide - All the Ads in One Place - Excel Spreadsheet? If you download the spreadsheet, it is a simple matter of selecting the category Desktops in the spreadsheet. The cheapest I have seen is eMachines at BB for $200 with celeron processor.

I will go with Sony for these two config's.
Specs are similar. Sony has better fame. Also AMD's mobile processors are worse than Intel's.

I wish Staples made the Compaq laptop availabe online on bf so people wouldn't have to stand in line for 5-6 hours if they wanted to get one.

If anyone has the compaq model # I may be able to look up what chipset is inside and how much memory it supports. BTW, it seems both CC and Stapl3s are selling the same model, or are they different?

If I'm not mistaken, it's the C712US...seems like it might be one of those "BF-only" model numbers. As you said, it appears that the CC and Staples machines are one in the same, just with different model numbers.

Also as an FYI (I think I posted it earlier in this thread), there's a $30 MIR from Compaq on any laptops with model numbers ending in "US" - brings the AR cost down to $319 plus tax on $349, compare to CC, which is $299 plus tax on $450...for me, the difference ends up being $12 - making Staples the much more attractive option given my lack of desire to camp out all night.
