lrothkcsa said:If I'm not mistaken, it's the C712US...seems like it might be one of those "BF-only" model numbers. As you said, it appears that the CC and Staples machines are one in the same, just with different model numbers. Excellent. I've found the specs of compaq's C700T series here (click on the Specs tab.) I see that the laptop uses Intel GMA X3100 graphics core which is included in both GM965 chipset and GL960 chipset. As I studied the chipset family datasheet, I noticed the following difference: GM965 chipset -
- Support for DDR2 at 667MHz and 533MHz
- Max memory supported: 4GB
- Support for Intel Core2 Duo and Celeron processors
GL960 chipset -
- Support for DDR2 at 533MHz only
- Max memory supported: 2GB
- Support for Intel Celeron processor
Because these laptops take Intel T2310, which is essentially a Core2 Duo processor, that only means they are based on the GM965 chipset. So I wouldn't worry about the memory cap issue unless Compaq did something extremely stupid (which actually takes a lot of ingenuity to get done.) Case solved? |

im gonna try for the compaq @ Staples too. found the specs, and appears that 1G RAM is max - or they are silly in what they post for specs http://h10025.www1.HP.com/ewfrf/wc/document?docname=c01278437&lc=en&cc=us&dlc=en&product=3619353&rule=42259&lang=en |

T2310 is a Pentium Duo and is clocked at 533MHz, so it only needs to use GL960 chipset -- and you want to guess which one HP ended up putting in their lowest priced model? In any event, the Sony laptop that BB is selling is doing the same T2310/GL960 combo, so on the chipset/CPU/memory side the Compaq and Sony are the same, and both supports up to 2 GB memory. |

when and where does this go on sale? is it thanksgiving online only? Love said:I think its a decent laptop. I am also looking forward to but the same. Only 220$ MIR is little disappointing coz have to pay tax on 819$.
Also, I heard people saying that if you want to install XP drivers are not easily available. Otherwise I liked specs and performance review.
rmodi210 said:What do you guys think about this Lenovo at OD for 599?
$899 -$80 IS - $220 MIR=$599 Lenovo at OD
People seemed to love it at $679 here but since its BF, there might be better deals out there? What do you guys think? |

Thanks for your input. I'd be disappointed if these laptops are GL960 based. How do you know for sure that the Sony laptop also uses GL960, is it based off the same educated guess like the compaqs at CC and Staples? |

The $229 desktop was a Friday/Saturday and I never saw it available online and my local store gave out vouchers for it and was out by the time I arrived at 5:30. |
