Straight from the dog's mouth I ordered and had a golden 20% PayPal button. However, keep reading and they say that the promotion has ended as the funds allotted have run out. I did order before that comment was made, and have made a PDF of the thread in case I need it. |

Newegg is top shelf in my book. I will pay a couple bucks more to get something from them (if it's close) instead of Amazon or anywhere else for that matter. PayPal is one of the sleaziest outfits around. People who end up with the 20% rebate in limbo at paypal will never see that money. And, just because they can, paypal will probably freeze the accounts because of "suspicious activity" or some such nonsense for a month or two. Ever try to get customer assistance from Newegg? I have and it's pretty painless. Ever try that with paypal? Good luck. AFAIC paypal screwed their users and the merchants with this deal. I don't know for sure but it would not surprise me to learn that they misrepresented the offer to the merchants. I hope the merchants get even (legally). |

What I find really interesting about this whole "promotion" is that it would seem to me that the goal of any promotion is to promote one's company to new users. I hadn't used PP in years prior to this transaction, and the only reason I used them yesterday was because of the 20% off. From their perspective, I was pretty much a new customer, which I assumed (incorrectly) was the type of person they were trying to attract. I got in on the deal fairly early in the day. Later on, I found another product that I wanted to order, and the promotion was still going on. No dice. Something about not being a "verified" customer. This seemed odd if they're trying to attract new customers (and because I never had such an issue with, say, GCO, who I assumed was the competition). So I then attempted to gain "verified" status...BOTH ways (bank account and PP CC). Again, no dice. Nothing I did would work, and the whole situation left a bad taste in my mouth. Not only did I not get the deal, but now I had turned over my personal financial info to a company that came across as very incompetent. Then I find out about how the deal died prematurely anyway, and I realized that the incompetence was not only in appearance. Never again. It should also be noted Newegg was great through the whole ordeal. After how much they have taken care of me, I'm pretty sure they aren't to blame. |

need some advice here.. bought an item with paypal early in the morning, price went down after promotion expired.. chatted with Newegg advisor, said he would credit me the difference $6.00 after the item ships.. do you think that refund would jeopardize the paypal rebate?? |

At least Newegg is reimbursing customers who ask (even people who shopped but did not buy anything on Cyber monday) are getting a $50 credit. You have to join their forumz though and read this longer thread here to see how: http://www.eggxpert.com/forums/211822/ShowThread.aspx#211822 A couple of guys have already been made happy by using their $50 credit there. |

A couple of guys have already been made happy by using their $50 credit there. Please link to the specific thread that says that customerS are getting a $50 credit? I read through all 4 whining pages of that forum, and only found one guy who posted that he got the credit-and it was a credit to his credit card. If you shopped, but didn't buy-how would they credit your card? There was one other guy who got a $25 credit as well. You don't need to join the forums to read the threads, and there is no mystery how they got their credits-they simply called Newegg up and asked for them. |

This whole thing was a fiasco from the get-go. Newegg's site was a mess on BF and a mess on CM. The Paypal deal was dead by 3:30pm EST when the allotment of rebate funds ran out, but took several hours for Newegg to yank the deal by creating some graphic to paste over the top of the original deal page on their site. Meanwhile, the orders kept coming, and Paypal won't be paying out on any of them. But even if you ordered earlier in the day, Paypal has botched things even more by cancelling orders claiming credit card denials even when the card was working just fine. A cancelled order is one they don't have to pay a rebate out on either. Newegg should know better than to associate themselves with TeamFailure at Paypal. Newegg extending substantial credit for botched transactions is not unheard of. I slammed them for something on resellerratings and they have an employee assigned to watch for that stuff and I ended up with a $75 credit for their error in 2006 for another botched holiday promotion last year. It's not true to say such a credit will be forthcoming for everyone automagically, however. Paypal is... well Paypal, and these people couldn't successfully pull off a promotion even if they tried. They botched last year's holiday promo as well. Paypal couldn't find ice in Siberia. Just wait when people will be back at the end of the rebate posting period complaining they never got theirs and Paypal won't respond to their e-mails about it. Deja vu all over again. People ended up just dropping it and moving on. That's why smart companies don't associate their brands with them on a joint promotion. And what was botched at Newegg has also been messy at other merchants as well, so I suspect this is going to be the disaster of Holiday '07 when it's all over. |

Slightly off topic, but my question is (if anyone knows): if you purchase an item and pay through paypal with a platinum credit card that extends purchase warranties then will the item still get an extended warranty? I'm assuming your CC statement will say paypal and not for what the item was for? I'm curious if anyone knows. I was going to get an IPOD through this promotion. I'm glad I didn't bite. Sorry to the others with all the heartache. This reminds of GCO last year, but that seemed to work well for my purchases. Thanks in advance. |

How about go to Paypal and take a look the holiday saving on the bottom. I think u can get 20% Cash Back from many E-seller by using paypal no later than Dec 10,2007.This the statement from my email,"Cash Back offer is for up to $50 per PayPal account and good for a limited time only. Offer is only available as long as the merchant's website indicates that the 20% Cash Back promotion is offered, but no later than December 10, 2007 11:59:59 PM PT. Restrictions apply. See promotional site for details." But,they set a limit ,see "Offer Description: Eligible customers defined in Section 3 below will receive 20% Cash Back on their total purchase amounts (including shipping and taxes) made with participating merchants during the offer period. The maximum total amount of Cash Back per PayPal account is $50 USD." Thus, whatever u spend more than $250, u can get back only $50. Right? |

That is, if you are John Q Jones and you have one single PayPal account, and you went and ordered $113 worth of stuff (using your PP account) from every merchant listed in the promo, then your maximum rebate would be $50. |

You are still good, as long as you pay for 100% of the item with your card. It'll say: PayPal ***Newegg*** on your statement. savalot said:Slightly off topic, but my question is (if anyone knows): if you purchase an item and pay through paypal with a platinum credit card that extends purchase warranties then will the item still get an extended warranty? I was wondering this two since I ordered a Dell laptop that day. I have to say I'm getting nervous about my order. Everything looks fine, Paypal says "pending" and Dell says "in production" and will be shipped on Tuesday (Insprion 1520). I ordered it on Monday, I'm more concerned about getting the laptop than the $50 at this point. I've heard stories about orders being cancelled because they didn't ship to a verified address. I had mine shipped to my work address which paypal has never seen before. |
