Please use this thread to announce your findings

If you wish to discuss reselling and eBay, please do so here.

Moderator Comment: Hi folks, Going forward, we need to keep this thread on topic. That topic is Wii availability. Post where the Wii can be purchased. If this can't be done, the thread will be locked. Thanks. — Dec. 13, 2007 @ 4:05pm

&refPlease note: When posting information or asking questions in this thread, please include your location! "Found some at my local Circuit City" without saying where helps no one!

01/28/07 - Many GameStop stores are getting Wii's in on a regular basis but they sell out quickly. Call your local stores. It is reported that in some (and definitely not all) areas, the store will hold one for you for 2 hours. YMMV.

Online checkers/trackers:

Best Buy B&M Availability - YMMV, Calling BestBuy to confirm before heading out is a good idea
WiiAlerts - Email/Cellphone alerts for Online stores like amazon,circuitcity.com etc confirmed works. thanks to dealmaddy
WiiSeeker - B&M shipment and eBay auctions information in your area B&M data seems community driven, very little data at least where I've looked. Does show local eBay info, if that interests you
iTrackr - Another B&M shipment in your area for popular items this season VERY unreliable - I've not had a successful experience yet with the Wii data
NOTE - These are not 100% reliable, but their information is very useful.

YMMV, some places are holding units to sell on Sunday.

Tips for finding some in your area:
• GameStop and EB Games - They get their shipments throughout the week and sell them as they arrive. Find out when they get their shipments and sit outside and look for a UPS Truck. Each shipment box comes with three Wiis each.
• Circuit City, Meijer, (and other big box chains less frequently) - They like to hold all units nationwide until Sunday when they can advertise in the local paper. Call on Saturday night to know whether or not they'll have any for sale the next morning. Also check their weekly newspaper inserts, generally if its going to be advertised they have to have at least a few for sale.
• At Target B&M if you are in the store you can go to one of the price scanners (instead of bothering a sales person who is 99% of the time going to give you an instant NO) and do the following. Just type in 207250001 <Enter> this should bring up the Wii Console. It will say on the screen Backroom: Yes or No. ai42 put together a quick PDF with many UPCs of rare items and you can do the same thing but simply scanning each barcode. PDF HERE

Stuff that used to work but doesn't anymore:

Here is the target in store availablity Link (cut and paste)

After you enter your zip you will get a blank page, you then need to right click and 'view source code'. The availabilty is buried in the page script but look for:
tempData = new Array();
tempData["storeName"] = trim("East Windsor");
tempData["itemAvailability"] = trim("Out Of Stock");

http://crayz.org/target_wii.php?zip=90210 seems to be gone

Things to look for BEFORE you bid and accept a WII from eBay.

1. NEW not USED. Never know what you will get with used.
2. Shipping! Might be a great price, but watch the gotchas!
3. Receipt. Having a receipt that isn't too old may allow you to return it if it is defective. However, try to zoom in on the pic and see if the person paid cash. If they paid with their card it is kinda useless other than to get store merchandise or another wii (when they get in). You won't get cash if they used their card to purchase the wii. If you care about that.
4. Don't fall for the "EXTRAS" claim. How many eBay newbies out there fall for the auction listing that make it sound like you are getting more. IE: WII CONSOLE, WII REMOTE JACKETS, WII NUNCHUCK, WII REMOTE included! Yea, it's still just a standard wii. But you see those auctions going for more money because they SOUND like they have more than normal.
5. Extended Warranty Claims. All the new wii's already have a register online and get an additional 3 month warranty. Don't pay more because they advertise this.
6. Return policy. Be sure you are ok with their policy.
7. Reputable sellers vs eBay Slackers. Look for negatives in their feedback. I can't stress this enough. Find out why people gave them a negative. There are some loony birds out there that will give negatives just because well, they are crazy. I would personally NEVER buy anything from anyone that doesn't have at least a 10 rating with a good rating and/or 100%. The more the better. Some people sell a few trinkets to get a few feedbacks and then sell high ticket items and never send the item as a scam. Like I said, at least 10 feedback is a safe bet as a minimum.
8. If all else fails, trying begging. Before I picked mine up for a birthday gift, I was in panic mode towards the end because I was almost sure I was going to disappoint the birthday girl hoping for a wii. I started sending emails to console sellers that didn't sell for some reason and after the 5th email found someone willing to sell me one for $280. By the time I received a response, I already found one at WalMart (last sunday) and thanked them for their time. I simply left an email and stated to them that I would love to buy one off of them but am limited on funds. What would they be will to let theirs go for. DON'T send money without going through eBay or unless they are local and you can meet up. ANYTIME you hear someone say to wire transfer you funds from the Internet: 99.999999% of the time, it's a scam - NO EXCEPTIONS.
9. Terms of Payment. Be sure you are ready to pay on their terms. If they request ONLY check, then you know it's going to take a long time to get your WII. Paypal is always preferred as it is instant to them. The faster you pay, the more serious you appear and the faster the seller will ship (theoretically)

Remember these eBay people have to pay some pretty hefty listing fees and money acceptance fees. Selling on eBay for $300 is not making much. After listing fees and tax, they may make $30 tops.
But some may want to go lower just to sell their last few as many purchased bundles to sell during the xmas season.

Where do you get the 9 game package w/ controller? Is that tough to find? Does it come with 2 controllers or just one?

Weird cause I see a lot on eBay that advertise 14 games (5 sports + this 9 game package), plus 4 controllers.

I went to a WalMart in cincinnati today and bought a wii system. The store I went to told me they had gotten 20 in today. My friend went to a different WalMart today as well and also bought one. He was told that they had only gotten 6 in though.

Okay guys, when you state that you have found/bought a Wii, please be more specific with regards to what county/city/state (list 2 out of 3). This way people wont be asking "Where in CT?"

Thanks.

The toysrus thing was BS, I was on the website before the alert, you could not add the console to your cart. Same TRU BS as last year

I've also found the GameStop wii inventory checker that RedBeard25 posted from the previous thread to work pretty well where you replace the "XXXXX" in the zip code part with your own.

We bought today at our local WalMart, $249. They told us they get Wii shipments via Fed Ex on an irregular basis a few times a week. None yesterday, 22 today. They informed me they usually get their shipment around 10-11am. I was advised to call the WalMart operator around 11am and she would know. I called at 10:30am and no info yet, called at 11am and was told they got them. I was able to get there within 20 minutes of calling and 2 of 22 units were left. Online route seems to sellout by the time someone posts it. Of course you need to be present to win (mobile) and not stuck to your computer. Goodluck. YMMV.

What browser are you using for this link? I have tried both IE 6/7 and FireFox. I put in my zip code and hit search. I then do a "View->Source" and I do not see any information regarding my zip code. This is what I see:

I think you missed the line that reads:

"Sorry. Our inventory information system is unavailable right now. We are working on the problem and should have it corrected shortly. Please check back soon to try your search again"

I thought that was an possible error message based on a event. Has this worked for anyone? I get the same results every time and I have been trying for 3 days.
