Need one for our 90 year old grandma who still lives on her own. Our research shows many services charge over $35/mo. We don't want to buy a cheap system that won't do what it's supposed to when we need it to. But also don't want to pay too much. Any suggestions appreciated. Thanks!

Dear jsherm,

I am also looking for some information on comparing and contrasting medical alert systems. I have an old grandmother, and I am trying to figure out which one would be best for her. I came across this link which has some information:
About.com Listing of Medical Alert Systems

Have you run across anything else? I noticed you originally posted your inquiry on 12/7.

Thank you,

That is new to me, I'll take a look at it today and get back with you.

why dont you use one of those services in the alarm forum. they are like $8.95/month or less; many people use them to protect their entire house and family.

Be careful of the company Life Alert. They have received some terrible customer reviews. Here is a link to the consumer affairs website with MANY unhappy former customers: Consumer Affairs Try MedScope America Corp. We used them for my Grandmom and they don't lock you into any contract and they have great prices. Here is a link to them: MedScope

Check with your local hospital. When my mother-in-law needed an alert system our hospital had one that was $10 per month. When activated the signal went to the local EMS folks. It was actually used twice before she passed away and responders where there within 5 minutes.

Cheers.

why would they even attempt to lock a 90 year old in to a long term contract?

You have some nerve.
Where do you get off thinking that companies have any morals or scruples or have concern for anything other than their bottom line.
It's people like you that are the cause of our current economic woes.
