I'm just getting ready to close on a foreclosure in a high end neighborhood. My intent is to live in it for a year, update and fix it up, and then resell for full price. The biggest area that needs updating is the Kitchen. I'd like to outfit it with high end appliances (read big name) since that seems to be what are in the houses in the area and would be expected by any buyers. So does anyone have any good tips on where to pick up name brands like Wolf, Viking, Jenn Air, Subzero, etc. at a good price?

BTW, I have been checking out the local ads and sites like Craigslist, but with little luck.

Thanks in advance for any tips/advice.

if you're in socal you can get high-end stuff discounted at pacific sales, but you just missed their annual year-end sale. they also sell demos and floor models and customer returns. i've seen a few sub-zeros and vikings there for a few thousand off. they have free delivery, installation and haul away. people in socal know that they're about the best high end place around for kitchens, baths and home entertainment. they used to give a contractor's discount if you bought a lot from them, but i don't know if they still do that. i wouldn't doubt that they are the highest volume high-end kitchen and bath dealer in the country.

at each of their stores they have a clearance room with lots of new high end appliances and fixtures. you can find some nice high-end kitchen faucets there on clearance every so often.

also, try e-bay. i've seen lots of high-end appliances listed, and every so often there are viking and vent-a-hood range hoods at deep discounted price.

an appraiser once told me that only sub-zero refriges bumped up the appraised value of the home. i don't know if that is true anymore now that there are so many other high end refrigerators.

edit: link to pacific sales locations

buy scratch n dent; then complain about scratched piece and get a new one (aka refrigerator doors).

with all the failing mortgages there's a ton of repo'd high end gear at the outlets nowadays.

I've owned Jenn Air and it is a huge rip off. Nothing but Maytag with older technology and stainless steel. We yanked it out.

Another more inexpensive route is a premium brand like Kitchenaid that you can purchase at more retailers and haggle a better price. Kitchenaid (and even LG now) offer some nice stuff that performs better than Jenn Air.

Just a suggestion to save a few bucks.

There is also a retailer called ApplianceSmart that is in a few states and has decent deals on higher end brands.

Good luck and enjoy the new house.

there's a ginormous scratch n dent store around here and believe it or not you can buy warranties from places like SQUARETRADE for 3-4 years from 8-12% of the price which is fix-it or what u paid back, with quickness. optonial AD&D too lightning protection ! in case you really don't like it bust out that 100V stun gun j/k that is not legal

Thanks Rigor! So what's the name of the ginormas scratch and dent store, where is it located, and do they carry the high end brand names?

in santa clara valley theres a discover branded mall thats pretty ghetto they appeared to the Sears scratch n dent store. In atlanta they have a free-standing store. i'm sure you can call and ask them for your neighborhood.

they literally had 100 expensive front-loaders lined up in all sorts of colors. I was on vacation so it wasn't a shopping day for me. but i've heard good news on the one here locally. The Sears one here gives you remainder of warranty and like i said if theres a scratch on those scratch proof finishes; oh well new door delivered and installed. etc.

the person that was installing my new (POS) fridge and dishwasher was the one who told me about how it works. He bought our stuff at HHGREGG for about 40% off web-price and the dishwasher had to be replaced due to a leaking seal immediately. this contractor was not the builder of our house but they just did installs . i guess home builders buy at wholesale price since the ultraquiet III dishwasher replacement showed price $249 and i looked it up online and saw them for $450+ back 4+ years ago. They would install the units carefully for the builder on contract and not scratch up the purty hardwoods that the 10 amigo's spent weeks buffing (no joking 10 dudes were applying/buffing/polishing the floors in final construction).

ymmv but i'd check it out. About 3 miles up the road is a super-discount high end shop as well from me i haven't been there. The key point is to ensure you have warranty.

both my fridge (frozen water line in the door itself) and dishwasher(runs on light cycle only) are about 5 years old now and buzt. Pretty lame. I guess i got my moneys' worth?

Why don't you looking into Kenmore Pro Applainces made by Sears. Its very high end and cost way better to repair it if anything should happen to it
