Talk about bait and switch! The Staples ad claims to offer the Western Digital 500GB My Book™ for $99.98. But when you click the link you instead see a 320GB offered for $109.98!?! The page for the 500GB (found by a search) offers that for $149.98. What a disappointment.
looks like a bad link - why not call them and have it price matched?

I wonder why stores are giving offers already since the ones (at least Statewise) that will get the FEDERAL REBATES tomorrow (and in the next few weeks) are the ones that paid their taxes / got their tax rebates ELECTRONICALLY, so they WON'T GET A PAPER CHECK to show to the stores (it'll be in their BANK ACCOUNTS). Or, like someone said in another FW thread "How does it work on people w/Direct Deposit?"...
Those that will get PAPER CHECKS won't get 'em for AT LEAST A MONTH, so if stores are willing to accept a MAILED-IN STATEMENT from the IRS (I don't know if that's how IRS notifies of deposit of rebates, but that's how PR's Tresaury Dept. [Departamento de Hacienda de PR] does it...), to notify them there are rebate funds in their account, that'll be another story...
On my part, AFAIK, we in PR, will be starting to get rebate funds by Memorial Day (I hope)
PS: Correct me if I'm wrong about who'll get the rebate funds first...

Or you could buy American products if you don't want to buy items made from another country.
Best Buy, we need a stimulus bonus from you. I need a new dryer, and 10% bonus amount would be nice. No thanks, Sears. Cannot deal with their disasters, long story.

Pay down/off debt!
And you do realize this will in turn free up money that will no longer have to go towards debt, which will ultimately lead to you spending money on something else. You heard it from me first. Its a good thing I'm here to shed light on these important economic situations. Follow me and you shall see the light. I ask for nothing in return, no need to thank me. nuff said

Good idea! Know of any?Yeah really. There are zero tv's, dvd's, and electronics of any type goods made in the US. Ditto for most household goods. About the only things made in the US are some types of furniture and foodstuffs. And many things that claim to be made in the USA are actually only assembled in the USA. Even a GM car comes with an engine from China.

This means that much of the money you pay back will simply cease to exist. Also, many banks are underwater (negative real reserves) so even if you deposit some money, they still can't loan out cash yet until they get their heads above water. Granted, your deposits get them closer to that point.

That's what China does, it loans us tons of $$ so we can buy more Chinese stuff.
What the USGovt does not realize is that people that receive free money will spend it, whatever their income is. This is the plan right? So everyone should qualify.
You do not qualify for an economic stimulus payment
According to law, the economic stimulus payment amount that you would otherwise be entitled to receive is reduced by 5% of the amount that your Tax Year 2007 Adjusted Gross Income exceeds $75,000. You would have been eligible for an economic stimulus payment of $600, but your AGI exceeds $75,000 by enough to reduce that amount to zero.
However, if your situation changes during 2008, you may be able to claim an economic stimulus credit on your Tax Year 2008 return.
Cub Foods owned by SuperValu, who also owns Albertsons and other stores, is offering an additional $30 on every $300 gift card that you purchase. Cub Foods is in the Twin Cities area. I know that Albertsons is in other parts of the country but I don't know for sure if Albertsons or any of the other SuperValu store chains are participating.
Anyone get theirs yet? Mine was deposited early this morning.
Other deals mentioned in the WMT article:
Home Depot - Specials on energy-efficient products such as lightbulbs and home appliances.
Radio Shack - an item priced at or above $50 between May 4 and July 12 will receive a 10% discount on their purchase. Any remaining amount from the check will be placed on a Vision Silver Prepaid MasterCard, which the retailer said can be used wherever MasterCard is accepted.

It's made in China, but China doesn't get most profit from them because most made in China products are branded by USA/Japan/Korean/Taiwan etc. China only get resource pay including nature and human.

You also don't qualify for a stimulus payment if you were foolish enough to have the proper amount withheld from your pay so you don't owe any Federal Tax (your Stimulus Payment is for $xxx, up to the amount of your Federal Tax Liability). First time in the last 20 years that I don't owe any Federal Tax, and I'm getting screwed for it!

There were notices to file your tax return anyway so you could get your stimulus check. 1040EZ that you could fill out yourself would have done the trick.
ye all want an economic stimulus deal? Stores should off a 10% off discount for any and all products produced or manufactured in the good ol' U.S. of A. !! Get the economy back rolling again in manufacturing . . . .
But wait, what would there be to buy? I really couldn't see much in the store!
Safeway gave me a 10% off "savings award" coupon, even though my stimulus payment was direct deposited. I just asked the customer service desk if they would give me one, and explained I got my stimulus direct deposited so couldn't bring the check in to cash.
However, the 10% savings award has a lot of limiting "fine print," which is nowhere to be found in the Safeway advertisements (or press releases, web sites, fatwallet threads, dare I say ANYWHERE on the internets.)
Some of the language is pretty limiting... Here is what it says:Safeway / Vons / Dominick's / Genuardi's / Randalls / Tom Thumb / Pavilions / Carrs / Safeway
10% Savings Award
Get more out of your Stimulus Check
Present this Savings Award with your Club Card at checkout and receive 10% off your shopping trip today.*
Issue date: [handwritten date] Offer expires one day from issue date.
* Use this Savings Award at any participating U.S Store. This Savings Award must be presented at time of checkout to be valid. This Savings Award is only valid one day from the date of issue. This Savings Award excludes purchases of alcohol, tobacco, U.S. postage stamps, gasoline, money orders, container deposits, lottery tickets, gift cards, gift certificates, event tickets, amusement park passes, all pharmacy prescription purchases, Club Card savings, store coupons and sales tax. One Savings Award per household. Savings Award must be presented with Club Card. Final purchase is determined after all manufacturers' coupons, electronic checkout coupons and exclusions have been presented and deducted from the grand total at the cash register. Coupons cannot be copied or duplicated for redemption, and may not be sold. Note all the excluded purchases bolded above, including gift cards, make this coupon not so useful. I asked around Safeway and from what I understand, they will take this coupon when you use it, so you get only one shot at it.
Therefore, I haven't yet tried using mine (it expires tomorrow). My Safeway does have a REAL nice selection of gift cards... so if I could buy say $1k+ of Safeway gift cards at 10% off and use them to buy other gift cards, I'd be all over that.
But I'm skeptical it would work. I did try as a test, using a "$10 off $50 purchase" coupon to buy a $50 Safeway gift card, which had similar exclusions as the 10% savings award in its fine print. The $10 off coupon did not work to buy the Safeway gift card, and gave an "inadequate purchase" error at checkout. I'm also not certain that a Safeway gift card could be used successfully to buy other gift cards.
Anyone else able to get much $ with their 10% "savings award"?
