Hi all,

Planning to buy this Samsung LN46A650 LCD TV
from Amazon.com. The price is pretty good (with free shipping) compared to BB or CC.

There were 2 things I am wondering about though:

- Does Amazon.com pay for return shipping in case there is a problem with the TV? What about a situation where in I want
to return it because I am not satisfied? - I guess a B&M store works better in that case compared to an online purchase

- Secondly, does Amazon.com have decent extended warranty plans with the TV? (Is it even worth getting the extended warranty?)

Any other gotchas to be aware of?

Please share your experience buying TVs from Amazon.com....

Thanks a lot!!

23 out of 25 Amazon buyers gave it 5 stars.

During the white glove delivery of the set, if you find damage, you can refuse delivery and not have to pay to have it returned.

Damage-Free Delivery, Guaranteed
At your home delivery experts will place the carton in a room of your choice on the ground floor, unpack the product, and remove all packing materials from the residence. If you find signs of damage to your product, simply refuse delivery, and you will receive a refund.

I would plug the LCD TV in and connect up a source and actually turn it on for a few minutes before the deliverers leave. That way, you can get rid of stuck pixels. I believe Samsung has in-home repairs for their warranties, so you shouldn't have to worry that much about the unit breaking afterwards.

Hi,

Actually I was just evaluating the advantages of getting the TV from Amazon.comm (at a much lower price) vs a B&M store

Also, do u know if Amazon offers Extended warranty with LCD TVs - I tried adding LN46A650 to the cart, and it did not
offer me any Extended warranty plans....

Thanks for the inputs

FWers mention squaretrade warranty frequently if you search on that on FW.

If you buy on a Gold or Platinum credit card that has extended warranty protection, your warranty is doubled up to a year at no charge.

Some FWers buy at Costco, which has 90 return policy and extends the warranty to 2 years.

Many FWers purchase on Amazon as can be found in the Hot Deal postings.
Save on tax in many states where Amazon does not charge tax.

BB and CC are merely for the convenience of the FWer to look at the model while they go back to order online.

Those that live near Frys get in on the great deals that they always have.

As earlier poster mentioned about running something for a few minutes while they set up your set,
it is a good idea. That way you find bad pixels and get them to take it back.

Run some DVDs or tune in the set to a HD channel and see that it is as good as a picture you see in the store.

Get a HDMI cable if you don't have one. There are some good deals out on Hot Deals- something like 3 HDMI for $10 in one deal. Get a 1080p upconverting DVD player or Blue Ray player to play something for the HD resolution of the set.

There's no way a delivery service is going to stick around and watch you unbox, setup, and turn on your tv to inspect it. They're on a time schedule.

As stated on the Amazon.com site, you get white glove delivery where they are supposed to unpack and set up the HDTV.
Have everything else ready to plug in so that you can quickly get the picture going to see that you don't have a dud.

Actually, I purchased a 40" Samsung LCD from Amazon, and the delivery company (a private outfit, not one of the biggies like FedEx or UPS), unpacked the TV, hooked it up to cable and my DVD player, made sure everything was working, and took away the packing material.

UPS, FedEx and DHL do not, but many locals hired by the seller, Amazon, CC and others do provide set up and operate.

Sure they want you to buy it, decent, who knows.
I sell on eBay and can buy a warranty from Square Trade for any buy anywhere,
and I get something like 25% back of it as a commission.

You can buy from Sqaure Trade also....

One thing to keep in mind if you have to make a later claim of damage is that you usually need the packing material. It might be wise to keep it in case something does come up after the delivery people leave, in case they want to see it.

I bought my Samsung from Amazon. "White glove" is sorta a joke. The guys only unpacked it because I asked them to. They also refused to take the packaging. That being said, the TV did arrive in good condition. I've had it about 10 months now, no problems.

Samsung does offer in home service, so don't worry about that. As atlanticfisherman said, your credit card should offer extended warranty at no cost. Use your AMEX if you can, otherwise Visa. FWIW, Visa also sells extended warranties which are cheaper than what you will be offered in the store.

My reply is nothing to do with Amazon, but I want to talk about Samsung in home warranty service. Recently in Feb 08.I purchased a 32 inch LNT 3253 model from Sears and had some issue with the TV and it was making humming high pitch sound which I noticed only after 2 weeks or so. I called Samsung about this issue and even the rep was able to hear that sound when i called him on the phoone. The rep said some one from a authorized Samsung service shop will come over to my house and fix the issue. I can't tell you the hassel I went through with the local service technician. It was such a painful process. The appoint time from the authorized dealer is similar to cable guys ( I will be there from 12 to 4 pm or something like that) and if the day they give doesnt work for you, then you literally wait for a week or so. After the first visit, the service guy found out that he had to order a new part (Capacitor over heating) and he has to come back for the second time to replace the part. Ohh boy, after waiting for 3 weeks for the part, that guy came at the very tail end of his appointment time and he didnt have any patience to fix it properly. he was getting annoyed and did some weird thing and finally got it all solved. But this was a big ordeal for me and I got tired of calling samsung who did not have much control over the local service shop.

I told Samsung rep that this will be my first and last TV I would buy from Samsung and they didnt say anything. I was thinking they might give me some discount coupons for their inconvenience. but they did nothing.

This is my bad experience that I want to share with everyone. Just be cautious

I purchased a Samsung TV from Amazon around Thanksgiving. The delivery was first class. They unpacked it, set it up, turned it on ect. In addition Amazon happened to drop the price three times in 30 days on the LNT-4669 I bought, and each time all it took was a single phone call to get a credit to m credit card. I bought at around $2100 and ended up paying only $1899 or so after credits. I recommend Amazon highly for Tvs based on my experience.

Thanks for your inputs.

Sony just came out with new LCD models, so right now I'm deciding between Samsung LN52A650 and Sony KDL52W4100

My living room has 2 windows, so I m concerned about the glare on Samsung LCDs..

Thanks

I just got the LN46A650 on Saturday. They came to my door, unpacked it outside so the box wouldnt dirty the carpet. Set it up and set the time, date, language etc and made sure it worked and then left. They were only there for about 10 minutes tops but they did their job. The TV itself is amazing! I purchased it blindly just based on reviews. Never saw it in a store or anything and let me tell you, the picture is top notch. For peace of mind I got a warranty from SquareTrade with a 30%off coupon so it was only $140.00 for 3 years additional coverage. With the price on Amazon less than 2 grand, this is a TV that cant be beat. I kept the box even though its bulky just in case. If the TV looks the same in a week or so I will then throw it out.
