There are 2 or 3 steps in the Parago debit card validation process, which you can track at rebateshq.com. The first step, which is only in a Staples easy rebate would state your rebate status is paperless. The second step, which applies to all rebates, would state "Your rebate is valid and is scheduled for final processing". The last step is "Your rebate is valid. Please allow up to 30 days to receive your rebate." Now once the third step appears allow about 3 business days to call the aforementioned tel.#(in my previous post), and explain to Parago the that you would like to cancel your debit card, and are opting instead for a check. They will not ask you for your debit card #, only the parago tracking #, well at least, up to this point, they have not. |

I noticed no one bothered to mention that the rebate card charges the holder A MONTHLY MAINTENANCE FEE OF $3.00 FOR each and every month (FEE IS WAIVED FOR THE FIRST SIX MONTHS nad then the $3 surprises begin! |

I tried to use the Visa debit card for gas but it was declined. I think I chose credit. Should I have picked "debit"? |

First of all, you lose out on the credit card rewards that you otherwise would have earned. Second, the gas station attempts to put a temporary hold (about $30?) on the card before you start pumping. After you pump, the actual amount is charged and the hold is released. However, if your card didn't have $30+ on it, it wouldn't have been approved. |

These type cards can only be used inside at the physical cashier, not at the pump. Tell them to authorize exactly how much you want (<= the amount on the card). |

I just now figured out how to use the Visa prepaid rebate cards for online purchases. I found this on the Visa gift card website, tried it on a Frys.com order, and it worked. Online or phone purchases To make an online or phone purchase, you will need to register your card. To register, either call the issuing provider, or visit their website. This information should have been supplied to you when you received the card. It may also be printed on the back of the card. When you make an online or phone purchase, the name, address, and phone number you use will need to be exactly the same as the information you provided when registering your card in order to avoid declines You can verify or update your information by visiting the card provider's Web site, or by contacting them using the toll-free number provided in your card materials. It didn't work the last time I tried this so the card info must have been different than the order info. This time I used the same exact name and address info on the http://www.stapleseasyrebates.com/rebatecard website (via the Update Cardholder Info link) on a Frys.com order just now and it went through just fine. Too bad you can't use more than one Visa card on an order if the card value is less than the order. |

However, the Parago CSR who told me that I could convert Staples cards to checks also told me that I could also request checks for Symantec gift cards. I'll be calling them tonight to see how true that is. |

So, I called around trying to convert my Visa debit cards to checks. Symantec (Parago) was happy to do it, I have 8 checks being sent to me. I then called the numbers on my Sandisk and Bitdefender cards, but neither of them would issue a check. So it seems that rebate cards issued by Parago can be converted to chcks, but not the others. To convert the Parago cards, just call the customer service # on the back of the card. They will probably try to convince you that the card is a great thing but if you tell them you want a check, they will process your request. |

You can use up the value of the gift card by buying gas. Many people think that you can’t buy fuel with pre-paid Visa gift cards (along with MC and AMEX gift cards) because they are not accepted for pay-at-the pump transactions. However, most gas stations will allow you to use one of these cards for a pre-paid fuel transaction inside the store. First, make sure you know the exact amount left on the card, lets say its $12.43. When you get to the gas station, go inside as if you were going to pre-pay with cash, give the clerk the gift card and tell him that you want $12.43 on pump #4 (or whatever pump you happen to be at). You will then be able to use up the gift card and trash it. |

Also, WalMart (and many other retailers) can split the payment on your purchase between multiple payment types. So again, if you know what the exact balance is on the card, you can use up the card's remaining value for your WalMart purchase, and pay cash for the balance. |

I actually called on Tues. April 27th to convert 2 of my QuickBooks gift cards to checks, and it was done without a problem. I think it really depends on the customer service rep. who answers the call. The jerk will make it difficult for you to get a check and vice versa. |

Although I haven't had any issues using up the prepaid credit cards, it's more hassle having to keep track of the remaining balance (unless I use it up all at once), and I end up missing out on the 2-3% CC rewards I would've otherwise gotten. |
