For all those who prefer a check (read cash) instead of these rebate visa cards, I just found out that there's an alternative to requesting checks and dealing with CSRs and having to wait for these checks to arrive.

Walk into your bank and request at the Counter for a Cash Advance in the full amount on your Visa Rebate Card. Most banks should be able to process it but will need your ID like your Driver License.

Now you have the option to deposit it into your account or walk out of there with Cash .

I don't think you even have to have an account at the bank to do this Cash Advance.

Here's some rough data fwiw:

04/05/09 software easyrebate submitted online
04/30/09 giftcard postmark
05/04/09 received gc, called in for check
05/05/09 check postmark
05/09/09 received check

The rebate tracking # included with the gc did not match the original rebate tracking #.

Why bother??? - Just call the 800 # back of card and they will mail you check in 3 days.

I used 5 different gift cards of these at Target. As long as you know the exact amount, Target can let you use all of them at once. Some of the cards only had $0.11 left on them, but wasn't an issue. I did have a separate receipt for each credit card though

I am wondering if these methods work on a rebate prepaid VISA card with said Debit on it.
Since it is not a credit card and it stated that no cash access.

I had a Staples rebate card for $20. (What a pain.) I needed to buy a hard drive, and I wanted to buy it from Newegg. (Best price, great service.) I couldn't charge the order to two cards, even after calling them.

I went to Dell Small Business to buy the hard drive. They were almost the same price - they had free shipping (Free 2 day UPS) - and, Dell lets you charge to two different credit cards - and you can specify the amount to go on each card . . .

Now I just saw McAfee rebate prepaid card on their website. I guess they are trying to follow Symantec, Trend Micro, Staples, etc. The next one will be CA. These cards suck so bad.

Has anyone successfully done the cash advance at the bank?

They are good for credit purchases.
That is clearly told on the reams of paper each came with.

I had exactly the same experience with you. I was wondering if they've stopped letting cash advance transactions going through. I've been doing cash advance at Key bank for a couple weeks and everything was fine. I hope something wrong just happened for today.

This is what I did for 2 cards I received for $20 Casio FAR from May. I also updated Q.S. CS didn't have any problem replacing these with checks, I wish there was an option to request the check before they arrive in the first place.

1. Call 866-923-0052, push 2,0 and request a check.
2. Wait for check to arrive, 7 to 10 days.
3. They will deactivate your card.

I apologize if this has been asked already. Do you get less than face value of the card when you get a cash advance? IOW, if I take my $40 Visa GC to Citibank and ask for a cash advance, will I get $40 cash or less than $40 because they charge a fee?

I have never been charged a fee. The reason explained to me by the teller was that this is a debit card not a credit card, hence no fee. YMMV.

@deepwallet: Awesome. I've got some GCs sitting here on my desk I was going to use today, and that cash in option is good to know. I really appreciate the reply.

Some VISA rebate cards even come with instructions on how to convert the prepaid card to cash by going to any VISA member bank and cashing out fee-free.
