I got aa 2007 HyHi ( 1 ) on eBay 3 months back...Great deal and love it...Gets an average of 27.5 - 33.5 MPG so far...Its fully loaded and a limited version. I bought it cos of Toyota reputation and experience with hybrids since past 10 yrs. Also HyHi is only SUV which is 7 seater. The last(3rd row ) collapses to the floor if you dont want it. It can hold 2 kids with car seats ...

Saturn makes one as well. Vue Hybrid.

Yes, but they have 2 drivetrains to maintain, that is why they are called hybrids. Also look at regular high mileage cars for comparison. Sure are a lot of Prius's around. I saw a gal test to do 0-60 & it took 12 seconds.

Regular cars become really pain now. I drive a mustang, gives 17mpg city. Really sux more gas.

Don't get a hybrid just because it gets better gas mileage.

If you are able to do an "even trade" - meaning get the same amount for your old car that you will pay for the hybrid, then get the hybrid. But taking on any additional expense to get the hybrid is rarely worth it. Taking a loss of hundreds or thousands of dollars doesn't make sense just to get a hybrid. It will take you 10-15 years to make up for the financial loss even with the gas savings and most people will not keep a car long enough to realize any true savings.
But if you are car shopping anyway, definitely look at the hybrid (and my vote goes to Toyota since they have perfected the hybrid mechanics through the Prius).

Not sure about the kind of girl who could pick up with a hybrid - going to have better luck with the Mustang. http://feministe.powweb.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2007/08/lisashirt.jpg

I wanted a hybrid SUV but but when I learned the HyHi would only get 22-27mph decided to stick w/ my 10 yo old Honda CRV which gets 27mpg. My plan is to use the CRV in the winter and get a hybrid for warmer weather when don't need the AWD. Hoping the new Honda "international hybrid" due out next year will be something I like.

Be sure to use real-life gas mileage, not EPA, and forget about anecdotal numbers because everybody drives differently (and lots of people's city mileage claims aren't really for city driving). Also the EPA test cycles differ for hybrids and conventional vehicles, making valid comparisons between them impossible. So you're pretty much left with Consumer Reports, and even with their results you don't want just their overall averages but their separate city and highway numbes.

The Wall Street (June 12, page D1) reported that the extra cost for most hybrids is not worth it when compared to the non-bydrid version of the same vehicle. For example, if you purchased a Toyota Highlander Hybrid, it would take 17 years to breakeven in comparison to the Highlander non-bydrid. Of the 4 vehicles, the Mercury Mariner had the least number of years, 5.5 to breakeven; the Escape had 5.9. They didn't rate the Mazda Tribute. The Lexus LS600H would require 98 years to breakeven. In essence, the extra cost for a hybrid may be not worth it. The Toyota Prius has the best breakeven, 3.5 years.

Maybe in a couple of years the cost of the hydrids will be worth it.

None of them is any good as a SUV ,, Why not buy a wagon or a car (hybrid or not with good mileage)? Not knocking hybrids but these are pointless vehicles... you either buy a capable off road vehicle (land rover , Trooper , Land Cruiser) or you buy an on-road vehicle..

That is a very poor comparison. Besides the different standard features which causes the $30k difference in MSRP, the LS600H uses a 5L V8 vs the LS460 using a 4.6L. The difference is more than 50 horsepower, it isn't your typical type of hybrid. Lexus has made more of a performance hybrid with their sedans to get more performance (like the GS450H).
