Please don't give me red, I just don't know where to ask about this. I was shocked when I heard this:
"Only orders placed before September 1, 2008 are eligible for a price difference refund under the Post-Order Price Guarantee policy. As of September 1, 2008 we are no longer offering discounts if prices change on our website after you make a purchase."
Just wonder is it true? Anyone asked for refund recently? Edit by Moderator: Clarified Title
Yea, I am going to get more red than any other thread. Being the poor messenger.

where did you see this? Thanks for the notice.
Looks like Amazon is trying to reduce costs. In the process though, they're going to decimate their loyal fanbase.
I already shredded my Amazon VISA card and don't plan to shop at Amazon anymore. It's their right as a business to stop these policies, but it's my right as a consumer not to be a paying customer.
"Post-Order Price Guarantee Amazon.com's prices for released items will change from time to time based on a variety of factors. If Amazon.com's price for an already-released item decreases within 30 days after we ship the item to you, we'll be glad to refund the difference in price if you contact us within that 30-day period. Please click the Contact Us button on the right side of this page, and be sure to have your order number handy so we can assist you.
This Post-Order Price Guarantee is subject to the following restrictions:
Price guarantee request must be received within 30 days of the date the item was shipped to you. Applies only to items sold by Amazon.com, and not to items (or prices) offered by other sellers on our site. Item prices that are affected by a promotion such as "Buy one, get one free" are not eligible, unless the same promotion is also offered at the lower price. The price of an item after rebate is not considered to be the Amazon.com price. Applies only to products that have already been released. Products that have not yet been released but that are available for pre-order from Amazon.com are not covered by this guarantee, but do benefit from our Pre-Order Price Protection program (see section above)."
Yea, I know. Of course it's on their site now. But the email says "Sep 1". So we need to check on Monday.

even so you always get your way at Amazon. based on the spend level you can get 5-20$ per issue if you waste enough of their precious time.
i'd bet the policy will change stated and they will still honor it if you nag them enough. otherwise they will lose you as a customer and someone that spends $1-10K a year there (got kids!?) they would lose alot of margin for a little give.
It appears that someone received an e-mail when requesting a refund recently with the following message.
"Thank you for contacting us to take advantage of our Post-Order Price Guarantee. I've confirmed that we now offer a greater discount on xxxxx than at the time you placed your order.
Since your purchase shipped within the past 30 days, I've requested a refund of $x.xx to the original payment method used for your order. This amount reflects the difference between the price you were originally charged for the item and the current price offered by Amazon.com. This refund should be processed in the next few days.

I wanted to check this out if it was true. Searched for price guarantee on Amazon and found this page at http://www.amazon.com/gp/help/customer/display.html?ie=UTF8&nodeId=468502#guarantee. Note that the section where the Post-Order Price Guarantee verbiage should have been is now missing. I will be more cautious of purchasing items from Amazon since their 30-day price guarantee was a major factor in my purchasing decision. My B&M stores have 15 to 90-day return policies depending on the store and item purchased. Plus the price of the same item fluctuates very often, sometimes even on the same day.
I started buying from Amazon years ago because they had good prices and good service. They slowly raised their prices, but I still kept buying because of their price guarantee.
I thought I was unhappy when they blacklisted me yesterday, illegitimately accusing me of nasty things. I'm still mad about those accusations, but I have no reason to be disappointed about not shopping at Amazon anymore.
hammer45 said: they'll still have a 30 day return policy, so just return and rebuy, or if you think it's a temporary price change, do a rebuy and return
but some return reasons will only refund price minus cost to ship back.

You STILL have to pay return shipping. Amazon does not pay return S&H unless ythe product is defective/damaged/missing items and if you claim too many of those Amazon will give you the boot.
I don't discriminate against other retailers for not having a price guarantee, but I probably will for Amazon. Their prices are so volatile, I've seen a price drop several times within a week or so after ordering.
The policy is GONE from the website now. They really mean it!! Damn!!

It is true, Amazon will discontinue its internal price matching effect the beginning September for new orders. This is all over the Amazon boards and if you got an email from them recently for a pricematch, it will state exactly as the OP.

Agreed. With Amazon you MUST nod your head and fear them like the Gestapo. Else, they will ban and send insulting emails to you (along with spam, even though you wont be a member, you cant be delisted for their spams).
Some guys posting messages about buying Amazon.com HDTVs were commenting on the no post order price match that might go into effect 9-1-2008. After some other guy had gotten back a price match on a smaller item, he saw Amazon mention the policy in the reply email.
Amazon Gold Box Forum: No more post-order price matching!?!?

what gets me about this is that I just happened to notice the thread on the gold box forum. why is it they never email you in advance of policy changes of this type? now someone will buy something, the price will drop, and THEN they'll discover the "new policy" when they try to go for a refund!
one other thing. I went to the help area where you can contact Amazon via email for a refund. that item is gone from the pull down menu.

Cuz they want to get you and ban you... just like they did to me for no clear indication what did I do wrong
That's interesting. I submitted for a pricematch yesterday and the email I got yesterday afternoon from Amazon simply said the following (nothing about discontinuing the pricematching):
So I wonder why I wasn't told the same thing about the pricematch policy going away?

I e-mailed them about this rumor and have been confirmed by their csr's. However, we still have 30 days to return the item. Unless they elminate that portion of it, I'll just rebuy at their new lower price, request a RMA and return previous item or return new item using old receipt from higher purchased price. Amazon will end up absorbing the costs of shipping for both items and absorbs the costs of the return shipping and or the handling of the return. So why worry? And yes, they may terminate your account if you make too many returns, but you can always create a new account. Unless they decide to ban your home address.

A) You pay return shipping on items that are not defective or wrong item B) Doing this more than a few times will surely get your account flagged C) Amazon has a sophisticated automated anti-fraud system that flags any account that is banned through mailing/billing address, phone, cc, and email. Anyone who shares the same account properties will have their orders cancelled and accounts deleted.
They've been blacklisting people for years for numerous offenses, most notably for excessive returns and/or coupon abuse. However, the past few days many people have received notice of being banned, a far larger disproportionate amount than I've seen before.

which is exactly what they will do...like every other business that you abuse the return policy for..its fair
Well, here's the 9/1 version...Pre-Order Price Guarantee
Amazon.com's price for not-yet-released items sometimes changes between the time the item is listed for sale and the time it is released and shipped. Whenever you pre-order a book, CD, video, DVD, video game, or software item, the price we charge when we ship it to you will be the lowest price offered by Amazon.com between the time you place your order and the release date. The order summary in Your Account will reflect the lowest price within 24 hours of the price change.
Please note that our Pre-Order Price Guarantee applies only to items sold by Amazon.com, and not to items (or prices) offered by other sellers on our site.
If your order enters the shipping process before the release date and the price is lowered on the release date, we will automatically refund your credit card for the difference between the price you were charged and the release-date price. If you did not use a credit card to pay for your order, please contact customer service through the Contact Us box on the right side of any Help page.
Price Matching
Amazon.com does not price-match with other retailers (including those who sell their items on our Web site). We do, however, consistently work toward maintaining competitive prices on everything we carry.
Please note that in some cases our Web site offers lower prices via the used and new offerings available from Amazon Marketplace or Merchant sellers. For more information, please read our Marketplace Help section.
I was ready to pull the trigger yesterday on a purchase of 2 items totalling about $50. Knowing about this new policy, I gambled and wanted to wait until today to buy and hope that MAYBE the price would have went down.
Well today they both went UP in price about $20 total, so as you guessed I didn't buy either item and won't until if and when they come back down to 8-31-08 prices.
I have had many great experiences with Amazon over the years and have no complaints. I know losing a $50 purchase yesterday won't make them blink an eye and they can have whatever policy they choose to, but for now they lost a sale.

Wow! this is disappointing! Thankfully I purchased my LCD prior to Sept 1 and got over $200 in price match. Doubt I'll get additional refund even the price goes down again since their seem to be flagging accts.
I'm soo mad about this policy. I was so used to hearing people say something had a price drop on Amazon and requested a refund I didn't think twice about purchasing when some items in my cart increased overnite by $5. And then I got the dreaded email saying they don't price match. I'm pretty sure I'll go out of my way not to use Amazon ever again (or until I forget how retardedly unstable their prices are). I'm also going to keep saying 'No', Their email did not resolve my question. That'll teach them. I think I'll negatively rate all Amazon threads in hot deals too
