Continental Promotions Group headquartered in Canada is one of the rebate industry’s largest and oldest players and has huge ties to computer hardware rebates. CPG is putting the screw to its customers to “repay” rebates that have already been funded. Link to article

This is not good. In another thread someone mentioned that Trendnet sent them an urgent message saying not to cash the rebate check that was sent to them by CPG/rebatestatus.

I got that email this morning...unfortunately, I deposited the check 5 days ago....along with about 30 other rebate checks that I had been hoarding for the last 2 months...many of which originated from the same rebate company. Could be bad. My bank says nothing has bounced yet, but they couldn't promise me that I was completely in the clear yet. Not a good feeling, waiting until next week to see if they try to stiff me with multiple bad check fees.
There's a very lengthy thread about this situation over in the Hot Deals section at SD if anyone's interested. Unfortunately, no one has any useful concrete information at this point.
Biggest problem I'm having right now is deciding whether to participate in ANY hot deal that involves a Tempe, Arizona rebate address. Sadly, that's a lot of hot deals, including a number of things at Newegg. If the product was from a manufacturer with a solid US presence---say, Logitech---you could convince yourself that you could contact Logitech directly, speak to someone who understands English, and (probably) expect the company to step up to the plate and reimburse you directly. But these China-based firms like TrendNet, ASUS, Sapphire, etc... think they're going to honor a rebate if the clearinghouse stiffs everyone? Think you'll be able to get effective, sympathetic customer support on the phone? I have grave doubts.
As shown in the related TrendNet thread, the entity offering the rebate promotion (manufacturer, distributor or retailer) is responsible for fulfillment. Other than bank fees due to bounced checks, you should still get your rebate check - eventually. Worst case, you will have to go back to the entity advertising the promotion, and/or file a claim with your credit card company.
This is not the first or last time a rebate fulfillment house has run in to difficulties - just be patient, persistent, respectful - and keep good records.
Fortunately, all of my outstanding rebates are fulfilled by other entities.
PriceGrabber.com wants to thank you for being a loyal customer, and also say thank you for participating in our review rebate program.
We wanted to give you an update on a recent change in our rebate process that has occurred over the past few days. We have been informed that the vendor who supplies the rebates to PriceGrabber customers who have filled out a review on our site is unfortunately no longer able to process rebate requests from our customers. Although PriceGrabber has prepaid this vendor a substantial amount to more than adequately fund our review rebate program, they have informed us that they do not intend to honor checks they have previously issued to our customers.
If you are currently in possession of a rebate check issued on behalf of PriceGrabber.com, or if you receive a check of this kind within the next week, PLEASE DO NOT CASH IT. The vendor is placing stop-payments on these checks to prevent you from being penalized, but we still hope to prevent you this additional inconvenience. PriceGrabber is in the process of reissuing your rebate check directly from our own accounts. A new check to be mailed to you directly from PriceGrabber headquarters in Los Angeles, CA. No additional action will be required from you to initiate this process.
We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause you, and we appreciate you taking the time out of your busy schedule to participate in both of our programs. Your feedback is very valuable to us, and we want to ensure you receive your rebate as promised. Rest assured that PriceGrabber is also taking all appropriate actions to ensure this type of problem does not occur again.
If you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to email us at rebates@pricegrabber.com
Again, thank you for your time and understanding.
Best regards,
Darren Davis VP, Product Marketing PriceGrabber.com
Aye yi yi… I just got an email regarding PriceGrabber rebates. Those are apparently being taken care of. But I have a ton of other outstanding rebates with CPG, including almost $300 worth from Bridgevine (a Comcast partner). What about those? Oh man, the work ahead to get these all straightened out.
OP, this thread really needs the title to be rewritten to more accurately address the specific rebate processor: CPG/rebatestatus.com
Does anyone know if www.status-now.com belong to this CPG too?

I believe that status-now is not the same company as rebatestatus.
Wow thanks for the heads up. I have at least $90 outstanding (2 Antec and one Rosewill rebates). I guess I will need to contact Antec and Newegg (Rosewill is their private label) this week. Ugh, but it could have been worse I had a $150 rebate outstanding on a generator earlier this year with them.

Gigabyte rebate says to check rebate status at www.status-now.com
Address is in Tempe, AZ where CPG is/was located...? Location is just a coincidence. Notice at the bottom of the status-now front page: Copyright 2008 Velocity Fulfillment, Inc.
Oh... actually I did not notice what the button of the status-now front page showed. Thanks~!
There is a long discussion on SD about status-now.com. The long and the short is that it appears to have no connection to rebate status other than its founder or CEO used to work for rebate-status. Somebody crawled through the public information on incorporation for both companies.
