Home Depot 0.01 items YMMV

I know there was a previous thread but it was based on trying to find specific items.

I have been doing the 0.01 cent items for some time now and usually pick something up every time I go into Home Depot.

When looking at the tags you will see a date in the bottom left which I believe is the purchase date. (I'm not sure on this.)

The thing that I have learned is if this date is one year old ie: 01/10/08 would be at 0.01 now. The only time this hasn't been true is on some higher ticket items.(This is the exception and not the rule.)

Usually these items are ones that are forgot about and haven't been thrown away yet. Look for overstock areas and stuff that is out of place. The sloppier the store the better the finds.

I have purchased everything from a closet organizer, faucets, sinks, tea light lamps.

1. Always use self check out and do a price check prior to purchase.

2. When purchasing these items if confronted they will usually sell you the one item at 0.01 but if you have multiple items they will take them away(YMMV).

3. Always purchase other items usually items that have a higher cost that can be returned later unless needed.

Happy hunting I will start updating items I have purchased so you might be able to keep an eye out.

Interesting...I'll have to start trying this out...thx OP!

Thanks for the tips.

but how do you find items with tags for specific dates? do you just go through every aisle until you find something that matches that date a year before?

is there someplace inside the store you usually look first?

thanks for the tip.

That or a crystal ball

thanks op for your detailed explantion! now my hunt begins

My store end-caps closeouts at least 75% of the time..

I'm going to Home Depot this week and I'm going to try this out.

Thanks.

I was a vendor for Home Depot for five years and I assure you this is not entirely accurate.

The date on the tag is usually the date that the price tag was printed. This is not always the case. Sometimes the date will be in the future and will indicate the date that the item goes off of ad. There may be other nuances as well.

Many price labels are placed by vendors, not Home Depot associates. To save time (there are only so many of those little price label carts) vendors will often print multiple labels at one store to use at other stores that they call on.

There are items sold at Home Depot that have been active items for at least eight years (when I started working as a vendor) that are still sold today. A store that has not refreshed a bay, endcap, or display may have price labels dated 2001 (or earlier). They are not $.01.

This may work for clearance (yellow tag) items that are over one year old.

Save yourself time and effort and don't bother asking for price checks on every item with a tag printed 12 months ago.

Hi everyone, I've bought many items from clearance, however, I have never been so lucky to have something ring up $.01. Is there a written store policy or something that we could refer to?

This is just a guide to hopefully find these rare gems. I was also a vendor for HD but in a different capacity. I would get sick always seeing perfectly good items being tossed in the compactor. By finding a way to get these deals hey I'm ready for the hunt! That is the thrill of it getting something brand new that was once $200.00~! =)

I only know what managers have told me but some stores are different than other stores.

What is end cap?

TIA

Priceless! Keep up the comedy!

I bought two lights for $1 each, the original price was $40 each and they still had them in stock. Man, $0.01, I hope I can find something at that price next time.

I have never seen anything for $0.01 at the Nashua NH store, can anyone confirm/deny?

It won't show 0.01 on the tag it will only ring up at 0.01.

If the item is $.01 in the system, it will show $.01 on a newly printed tag.
You'll rarely see it on display though.

I got a tub enclosure door that was marked down from over $300 to $159 and it went out to me for 1 cent.

Crazy.

Anyone been to the clearance corp store in Austell, Ga. It is a wild place too!

I apologize for not seeing your one post about the one year. I did not read the entire thread. I did follow that thread for awhile. The op never updated the main part or nothing was added to the quick summary. I believe that thread was started as the OP found an Item for 0.01 cent. I started this thread just for finding the 0.01 items. Apprently you feel I "stole" this from you but I did not as I never read what you put in that thread.

This was also moved to deal discussion as it should be instead of a "HOT DEAL."

Thank you for your input and I hope you keep finding 0.01 items and leave some for the rest of us.

Sincerely,

J

Sorry, I think I had one too many before getting on FW last night

I found a .01 today at HD in Az. Cashier in front of self service checkout noticed the price. She would not let me finish check out and called the manager. he wouldnt sell the item for one cent, even after it scanned for that amount. Are they allowed to do that?

no they are not suppose to and READ THE OLD THREAD all this was covered, I had to read it, you all can take 10 minutes to also, if you get an item it will pay off

If you made a mistake and handed the cashier a $100 bill instead of $1, the cashier would not be entitled to insist upon profiting from your mistake.

It is up to the Manager most likely you talked to an assistant manager or MOD which is not the store manager. Usually if you make a little bit of a stink about it they will still sell it. The 0.01 price is not a computer mistake it is the price. It is the finial markdown price before it is tossed in the trash. I do mean the trash, I have seen many items get tossed that are perfectly good.

Today I picked up a parking thingi that tells you when to stop. It was not in the system so they used a general clearance sku to sell it for $5.00. Most likely someone returned it and it didn't come from the store.

NOW, if you read the old thread, someone notes their corporate policy and there is a 5 page argument on this topic....corporate policy says you get the item

Rutgers sucks!

Thanks for rewriting the scripts from several old threads.

Instead, do us a favor, post list of penny items.

Has anyone ever gotten .01 cent items in the DFW area?

ok now im getting annoyed, listen people, all this is COVERED IN THE OTHER THREAD, including a list of ITEMS, and they list changes between stores, LOOK FOR YELLOW clearance stickers and then check the date, if it is 1yr+ it is very likely to be good, if your super bored/ballsy, find any clearance item and use the self check out to check the price....on a very very positive note, for me, the people from the old thread already got all the items

I did see a post from a HD employee that said the $0.01 price is supposed to notify the store to remove the items from sale. It's not meant to be a super bargain.

If HD wanted to sell you the items for $0.01, you could buy them from a cashier. Or the self-checkout lane wouldn't blare "ONE CENT" when one of the items scanned. The other thread actually recommended coughing loudly to try to drown out the notice. Now maybe corporate policy states that the store can sell the items to insistent customers. Maybe it doesn't. But this whole thread seems akin to speculating on how HD's security system works, so we can all go load up our trucks after hours. Because if they didn't want us to steal, they wouldn't make it so easy to get around their security.

We already know all these. Why do we need new thread to repeat & re-repeat the same without listing any NEW penny item? BTW, all the items listed in old threads are gone long now, except for 1 or 2 items which were posted very recently.

I can link to several old threads where "the process" had been discussed many times.

What is the use of THIS thread without real contribution of actual items?

I personally scored many items without yellow stickers just because I knew those items were at penny.
